Sandringham

Featured Replies

In case anybody's wondering, there is no Sandringham game this week as the Zebras have a bye in the split round. Next week they take on Williamstown (Sunday, 11 May) at Point Gellibrand in a big clash and there will be free admission for all spectators.

Fantastic. Where the heck is Point Gellibrand?

It's Williamstown's home ground and one of the first parts of Melbourne that was setttled in the 1830's.

He asked "where" not "what" Barry.

It's in Morris Street Williamstown between Twyford and Thompson Street....one of the most scenic grounds I've ever been to...overlooks Port Phillip Bay at the entrance of the Yarra river.

Just make sure you're wearing several sets of thermals, and it probably wouldnt hurt to take a sherpa. One of the coldest grounds you'll ever goto!

not warm to play on either!

Yep Willys ground on a fine day is very picturesque but in bad weather it would have to be one of the most exposed, windswept and almost unplayable in the State.

I saw a fullback one day kick the ball in only to have it go back over his head the wind was that strong. When Willy were a very strong team in the 1950s 5 out of six VFA flags losing in 1957 after being undefeated all season. ( same time as Melbourne) they hardly ever lost at Morris Street.

  • PREVIEW: Brisbnae

They really had me fooled when I picked them with great confidence to beat the Bombers at Gather Round last week. I should have recognised that nothing is more quintessentially Melbourne than defeating the undefeated early premiership favourite one week and losing to a winless cellar dweller on its way to establishing a record losing streak the next.
