PRESEASON TRAINING: Friday 6th December 2024
It would be a nice change to see a variety of set plays from kick ins to be more attacking and to keep the opposition guessing. The May long kick to the left to Max near the boundary for the spoil over the boundary was playing the percentages but it slows our ball movement and makes us so predictable.

Welcome to Demonland: Aidan Johnson
Totally agree. I hate that we have to play the Pies twice again next year. We canât afford the injuries or suspensions. I live for the day, sometime soon when Darsknee Moore and Brayden Mayncharge get their right whack but it wonât be from us. We are the nice guys.

Max Flags New Young Leadership Group
Good leaders but no nonsense, very driven types, maybe no room for humour, for enjoying the game, is that the identified area of improvement? Only guessing but lightening up, having a joke, enjoying the experience have been features of Richmondâs premiership sides and last year, McCrea played the nice guy, âletâs have funâ coach and certainly Darsknee Moore captained with a smile on his face, at least in the race before the game. Certainly leadership styles can foster an environment that encourages risk taking and tolerates failure vs an environment that punishes failure, that discourages risk taking and rewards conservative play.

New assistant coaches at the Demons?
My memory of Jennings is that he hadnât played the game at a high level but had studied the game and evolving strategies in great detail. He used to have a regular spot on SEN covering game strategies as I remember and he seemed to know his stuff. I do remember one game in his last season with us where we got up to win a close one and the TV showed Goody in the box, all excited and he gave a sheepish looking Jennings a rub on the head as if to say, âI told you so!â. The thought in my mind at the time was that Goody and Jennings were at odds, the experienced practitioner coach (obsessed with defence & contested ball) had stopped listening to the theoretical (offensive, ball movement) strategist. And at the end of the season he was gone but we did go on to win a flag with Goodyâs defensive game plan the next year I think it was. The review, it appears has recognised that our game plan needs changing and that Goodwin needs more resources and as part of that I hope he will be challenged on game strategy and the need to be less defensive to be more offensive.

2024 Player Reviews: #35 Harry Petty
If we rework on our game plan looking to improve our ball movement in both speed of movement and accuracy, I suspect Petty could go back and we could function adequately up forward with Disco, Rooey as the tall targets along with Fritsch and with small forwards Pickett, Spargo, Chandler. Add in Petracca spending time at half forward and maybe with some luck we also get something from McAdam and Jefferson. After watching the often extraordinary ball movement in the recent finals it stood out to me that we are now way off the pace. Letâs hope the new draftees bring some of that required leg speed and ball use!

Rory Sloane to the Dees as Assistant Coach?
I hope he is a great line coach for us and we really need new ideas. But I just hope to god Goody watched the final series and took in the frenetic ball movement needed to wins flags now. Thatâs because Goody will still be calling the shots with all these newbies coming on board.

How typically Melbourne Brodie Grundy
Ummh Brody was actually their best player, not that that is saying a lot. Won the hit outs and at 3 quarter time he was leading the Swans for disposals. He did his job. As did Jordan.

Kev, Does Sestan have much leg speed?

NON-MFC: Semi Finals
Whoops the Bears are back!

NON-MFC: Semi Finals
Totally baffled by the umpiring shambles tonight.

NON-MFC: Semi Finals
You canât.

NON-MFC: Semi Finals
The tackle is dead! The Hawks have kicked one legitimate goal, the rest were rubbish free kicks in front of goal. FFS we are playing a cut throat final and you canât tackle a forward in your defensive 50 with the intent to stop the forward getting boot to ball or a pass out to a team mate.

NON-MFC: Semi Finals
Are you serious? Thatâs 2 ridiculously soft frees to Hawks for 2 goals. Sorry as I write thatâs 3 goals! The game is rooted!

NON-MFC: Semi Finals
Yes pressure rating must be off the charts but the worry for Port is they are only 2 goals up. Not sure they can maintain this pressure for another 3 quarters.

5 Young Dees Re-Sign
Does Sestan have any leg speed? We need more players who can kick and can spread.

Tairon Ah-Mu - No access for Dees NGA Talent
Tasmania more likely.

Pert and Roffey - The Review Thread
My first reaction reading the email detail was could both reviews skirt around some of the problems? Shand & Pert looking down on the football dept and the board review just looking at board members and governance. Senior management slides in between perhaps

Does the club need a full and external review?
You want any findings completely buried again, like last time? Professional reports for public consumption donât engage in witch hunts, denigrating individuals or airing dirty linen, they identify areas needing improvement & set out specific actions to achieve improvement.

NON-MFC: Finals Week 01
Paying frees for grabbing a collar of a jumper??

NON-MFC: Finals Week 01
We are seeing a game style that is yelling at me to forget our fixation with getting a big forward at any cost. Itâs about quick, clever ball movement, midfielders with leg speed and smart, quick, small medium sized forwards, with a mobile tall or two to contest in the air. We look a mile off this pace.

NON-MFC: Finals Week 01
Umpires have stepped in already! Whatâs with all the frees to Hawks?

NON-MFC: Finals Week 01
Very worried the Hawks will win this. The wife is mad Hawks and is looking for a win and talking about a road trip to Adelaide next week to take on Port! Life is too short, I have better things I could be doing!
