  1. It's an amazing thing, it appears that supporters on this site have to find someone to bag, and Watts is the target. I wonder if any were at the game, and if the experts on this page have ever played competitive football. The role they have given Watts is to be a loose man in defence, this is the game plan. What is happening is teams are tagging him, so the role is not working. While I agree that he did not have one of his best games, he did win contested footy and his kicking efficiency is great. He is down on confidence at the moment, but he is not on his own there, many players are down. They had a win today, and that will help regain confidence and hopefully things can continue to progress. But all this is meaningless, because most people that post here will always look for negatives. One thing for certain, if Watts does go at the end of this year and becomes a success elsewhere, the same people bagging him now, will turn on the recruiters for clearing him. Remember Maloney, Martin and Petterd.
  2. The article says it all and I do fear that wanted players will walk. Why would kids like Watts, Frawley, Tynan etc put up with this crap.
  3. The only person on this site that has raised a concern about the players welfare and the impact that what is going on is having on this group. Those who want to continually rip into the quality of the group should have a good hard think about wot the admin & footy dept have had on these kids. It's a disgrace. Well spoken footy widow!
  4. I guess here is as good a place to comment on coaches, or more importantly our football department. Here is the problem the club faces. Our development of our younger players has been a disaster. The high draft picks we have had have not improved in the time they have been with this club. While many posters are happy to call them spuds, the truth is that they were all highly regarded as under age footballers. For the better clubs in the league, they develop the young players to be better. MFC, do not seem to be able to do this. So what happens, gus like Toumpas, Hogan, Barry, Watts, Trengrove never reach their full potential at Melbourne and cannot get out of the place quick enough. This is the area the club needs to look at and establish why player development has been so bad and rectify this. Even as a Melbourne supporter, I am not sure I would want my son playing for the club with this history of failing the kids. Like it or not, the AFL and football clubs owe it to the kids playing the game to ensure they flourish. Melbourne owe it to their players t allow them to flourish. So, take action to get this side right. Become a club that future champions want to p,ay for not a club they are forced to go to through the draft.
  5. I watched with interest David Kings assessment of Watts for the 1st two games and in particular against Sydney. I respect his opinion rather than that of the arm chair critics here. He believes that the club has failed and is failing Watts and as far as the Essendon game goes his team mates failed him. He had three opponents over the night and kept the three quiet. His positioning when Essendon were flooding forward was good, but on many occasions he was left one out against two or three bombers. How is this his fault. He may be down on confidence, but any wonder when he gets the treatment he gets from the supporters and the press. His best football is yet to come, but he will get there...may be not at Melbourne
  6. Lets's be brutally honest, on the form shown in the first two games, 16 of the players should have been dropped. Everyone is quick to dump on Watts, but have a look at the form of Byrnes, Jamar and young Toumpas, nothing flash with those guys. Like many others, I believe that it is the clubs development department and coaching that is failing. The new game plan & structures are not working. It failed last season and it is failing this season. We cannot keep possession of the ball and our skills are disgraceful, we turn the ball over time & time again. Play the players where they will be able to perform best for the group. Frawley CHB, Garland full back, Grimes on a HBF. Forget the loose man in defence and get Watts on a Wing or up forward. Sylvia would be better running on the ball to support Nate Jones. Mitch Clarke should move to CHF, but I am concerned he is carrying an injury and if his work rate is increased too much he may go down. Surely Spencer is worth a go over Jamar. He has been on the list for a number of years and is becoming a list clogger. At the moment he would be a better option than Jamar
  7. The board & admin seem to be untouchable. The president goes missing and says or does nothing to unite the club. Schwab has always been a problem, but he is untouchable. The club needs to take action and get things right from the very top down. Less involvement from Garry Lyon would be a good start
