  1. To be hosest I was dissapointed with his game .......3 touches? (in almost a whole game) Think he has a lot more to offer and therefore agree - give him a couple of weeks.
  2. So any 'reports' on Tappies game. Thought he was pretty good - had a consistent presence (something he has struggled with). Is he becoming a starting 18/22 player. I remember most at the start of the year (including myself) just couldn't see a spot/role for him in the team. Definatly think that the Chappy role (high forward/stint midfielder) is the right one for him. I think his aggression is very important for our team.
  3. Yep need a quality mid that can slot in and lead/teach our young players (Bartel or Luke Ball type) Geelong has plenty of experienced mids and one would think they are coming to the end of their successful patch. They have already started to bring in young blokes/draftees and seems to be trying to rebuild whilst experiencing success - they would most likeluy jump at a high draft pick (trade a senior mid). Got to target teams that are going into rebuild and have experienced mids (Geelong and St Kilda) Whilst watching the Carlton game I got the impression that Carlton no longer think Judd is that valuable (not as a mid anyway). He seems to no longer play as much time in the center and may be look odinary in a Carlton midfield but would look a gun in ours! Would at least be a great leader and teacher for the young draftees (better than Rodan or Byrnes).
  4. That would leave us with only one ruckman - Gawn. Toumpas is not ready and it would be silly to bring him back - I would give him at least a month at Casey to adapt to the pace of VFL and build confidence.
  5. I think a lot of people are jumping to the conclusion that he is injured because they want that to be the case. He played very well last week didn't he? I remember people last week saying he was on an 'upward curve'!
  6. I would go midfielders with our first three to four picks and then a couple later picks on a small forward. I believe our backline and forward line have the potential to be great (with exception of a small forward), when our midfield improves the whole team will. I hate the fact that we will have to wait another few years before this years draftees would have any influence. Its going to be a long road to success - buckle up! We need to secure one star mid - Free agency or trade. We need a Bartel or Luke Ball type to help and lead with Jones (use priority pick if we get one) Hate the fact that we are already talking about the draft but we have nothing else to turn too. Mid's, Mid's and more Mid's please! Question is should go draftees or 20-22 year olds? If we go draftees it means that players like Jones, Sylivia, Clark and Dawes will be out of their prime by the time the draftees find form.
  7. If Trengove was a real leader he would go to Neeld and say "I don't think I am the best person for the job". He needs to swallow his pride for the team - If he goes that then Neeld can put him in Casey to find form and in come Jones (about time this guy gets some respect for effort) The younger players can't look up to Trengove as a captain when he plays like he did today - Jones is one who I see taking Viney, Toumpas etc. under his nuggety wings.
  8. Don't be ridiculous it wasn't even a free and Mclean looked as if he was trying to shift the impact off Grimes. Nothing in it no matter what player or team.
  9. I felt like the GWS game was a nothing game and now have the same feeling for the GC game. Before the GWS game I said that I didn't realy care if we won because it would mean nothing - its not a real win and would do little for the group. At the time many were happy that we won that but long term it might have been better to lose. That win could have been the only thing between Neeld and his job. Maybe a fresh start - a clean slate was what we needed after that GWS game. A new Coach, CEO, midfield coach etc. I don't think Neeld has what it takes to be coach. Really wish we could just bring in Ratten and make Neeld assistant coach. I know it's not all about the coach but I think the players need a fresh start - a clean slate.
  10. "Reports: Luke Tapscott (Melbourne) reported for rough conduct on Kade Simpson during the third quarter." Well I guess they couldn't put high contact could they. I think the umpire reported him solely on the fact that Tapscott cleaned him up - not many players can clean another player up legally. He made the decision - no real harm done (on us).
  11. 5 year deals can be risky can't they? I think he is going to be a Johnathan Brown 2.0 but agree that a 3 year deal depending on next years result would be a better approach. Offering him a 5 year deal when he is only18 might send the wrong idea - that we are desperate and doubt his ability to commit to us in the future. There have been many instances where we thought we had a star but didn't - Scully, Trenners, Morton and Watts etc. I don't think I could take years of moaning because Hogan turned out useless and we are stuck with him for 5 year (like Jamar). But I do think he will be a star!
  12. Almost forgot he was on our list - another wasted spot on the list (could have had Magner or kept Gysberts or Moloney)
  13. Why do we always play potential midfielders in other positions. We desperatly need midfielders - I know Taggert was drafted as a mid why not just develop them as mids. Kent and Toumpas were also played upforward - it's fine if they are resting but we need to develop some good midfielders now! I hope Kent plays some time in the mid tomorrow.
  14. Why would you want GWS to win? It would only make us look more pathetic. If there are two teams that we should hate most it is GWS and GC for they weakened the drafts when we have been near the bottom and they are the teams that will destroy any chances of us winning a flag in 10 years.
  15. Thanks KC, I trust your judgment. I think most are just scared after the Morton and Gysberts fall out. At least give him a year before you begin to jump ships - much less than many gave Morton or Watts.
  16. I see Davis as similar to Gilles but with possibly more upside/potential. Wish we did not waste a spot on the list with Gilles and Rodan. Could have kept Moloney and Gysberts. Neeld says he was going for maturity and experience well Gilles just isn't it. The players can't look up to players that drift in and out of the team. Gilles seems to be in Davis' way - either Davis is worth persisting with or not.
  17. No way - we can't keep throwing our young draftees into the deep end. Hasn't he only played like 5 at VFL so far (since drafted). I think he needs to string some good games together first, we should not elevate players from VFL unless their form is very good and consistent. No need to rush him - for once lets just get it right.
  18. Anyone have any thoughts on Stark or Clisby. It looks like Clisby has good size for his age. I have always seen rookies as the offcuts or looking for a needle in a haystack. I never really give much thought to rookies, so any thoughts? I know Stark was taken pretty high in the rookie draft. Anyone think these guys have a good shot at making our 22 in the future? It would be intresting to know the percentage of rookies that end up playing 50-100 AFL games.
  19. Would have preferred Davey or Blease over Nicho but If Nicho is the sub he could be good to have in the midifeld come the last quarter.
  20. I think it is fair - he like so many other of our first year players have 25-30 touches in their first game and then seem to just never do it again or never improve. You can't say its not fair because he has only played two games - thats my point he like so many other first game/year players show potential and then just disappear. Evans, Tynan, Gysberts, Magner etc. all had great fist games and then just seemed to vanish. Then you have players like Scully and Trengove who had great first years and now are just fighting to stay in the team. And also Blease had that great patch last year and has not shown anything since. My only explanations seem to be that the oppositions decide to tag them after a good first game or that it is just part of football and when they play their first game/year they have a real passion and desire to do well.
  21. Thats only because we can never find space. Uncontested marks would be a beter sign and show that we can spread. (oh and half those 70 are Howes so yer!) As for Garland - that game where he ran back with the flight of the ball and took that contested mark was great. When he got up I realised he is no longer that skinny/lanky development player. It is about time he starts using his body and attributes to full advantage - his tall, strong, can play on short and talls and has a rare kind of composure for a tall defender.
  22. Thats what we said with Jurrah! Let just hope he doesn't have a feuding family. Great to see him rested like Viney - maybe Toumpas and Kent should have a rest soon as well. I am sure he can still win the VFL Coleman medal (just giving the others a chance)
  23. Tasmanian Devils? At least they already have a name for us.
  24. If we don't drastically improve next year I would not be one bit angry at Jones for walking. He deserves better - although I am confident he would never walk on Melbourne. I doubt there would be many that could match our offer for him anyway, he should be the number one earner at this club - full stop.
  25. I second that!Sadly, the game is not on ABC again! You would think that a really good VFL team would have had a televised game by now. Imagine all the demon fans who are starved of success and would turn to Casey - the ABC's broadcasting numbers would shoot through the roof.
