I have always been doubtful of Terlich but he is growing on me - I don't think he should be dropped. As Roos said in the presser he is willing to put up with poor disposal if they show defensive effort. Terlich is good because he has attacking flair - something Georgiou lacks. Possible outs: Georgiou - no attacking side to his game Byrnes is useless - to small and slow and offers little defensive pressure. Bail - much rather him than Nicholson but he needs to show more (maybe he was tagging I don't know) Howe/Watts - both could be dropped for lack of effort. Watts probably goes first. Possible Ins: Garland (if fit) Riley (if fit/form warrants) Kent (if fit) Fitzy (If form warrants) - could provide relief for Jamar and an extra target up forward Toumpas (If form warrants) Strauss/Clisby - one of these guys needs to be included - Strauss has pace and a good kick (we need a rebounding backman - work your magic Roos) Outs: Byrnes, Georgiou, Bail, Watts Ins: Kent, Strauss, Riely, Garland (if fit) or Fitzy

I think Roos will sit him down and say 'Georgiou if your going to take a swing at Buddy make sure its a good one'
-
yes I saw that - I don't think Buddy would be too pleased being called a 160cm midfielder. I think McDonald is getting a bit ahead of himself - God knows what is going on in his head!

I think its 'clearances' and 'centre clearances'

Both Mitch Clark and Trengove seem to have risen from the grave this week - you wonder who writes this stuff.

The ones that I am interested in: Toumpas: don't mind him finding form/confidence at Casey but he should be knocking the door down Garland: Once he returns our defensive will be much stronger (can start dropping the dead wood - Pedo/Georgiou/Terlich Clisby: A handy player and if his form continues he could find himself replacing Grimes/Terlich Strauss: Similar boat to Clisby - was in great form preseaon according to reports but suffered yet another injury - I still believe he could become a great rebounding HBF Riley: If the rumours are true and he is a silkier version of McKenzie then he is just what we need - we need to win some centre clearances and lay more tackles Fitzy: Has a big opportunity to step up giving our lack of forward stocks - should be given another chance given he is now not the only tall forward - could have helped Jamar with the ruck load this week Gawn: Our ruck stocks are far from great - we really need Gawn and King to become good ruckman otherwise we will have to pay top dollar for a decent ruckman

Some interesting points from AFL website: 1. Melbourne has won just one game but the Demons have shown vast defensive improvement. Last season the Demons conceded an average of 122 points per game compared to 82 per game in 2014. 2. The Demons are ranked last in the competition for centre clearances, averaging just eight per game. The stats has been one of the Swans' stronges as they rank sixth in the League with an average of 13 a game. 4. The Swans continue to struggle in the ruck following the departure of Shane Mumford. In 2013 they were ranked first for hit-outs and clearances. In 2014, they sit 12th and 10th respectively. 5. Melbourne's improvement within games has been noticeable, having won nine of the 20 quarters they have played in this year. The Swans have won just eight from their five games. Odds: Sydney $1.07 Melbourne $8.50 I really have no clue whats going to happen going in to this game - all I know is we need to come in with the intensity of the Carlton game (40 tackles is not good enough). I am not sure if our defense will hold without Frawley/Garland (those are the two that I would put on Buddy). I thought our midfield would have been performing better this year after the inclusions - (Viney, Jones, Tyson, Vince, Cross etc. and we can only manage 8 centre clearances a game)
-
I still shudder when I read that name. Take out the WCE game this year and we have been a very competitive/totally different side this year - which was all I asked for this year. Having said that it is easy to get frustrated when we lose games like (STK and GC) - it doesn't help that the bottom 6 seems to have improved since last year.

Match Preview and Team Selection - Round 5

Yes I saw that - I think it will be: Out: Evans In: Jetta If we brought Fitzy in then Dunn could go back to the backline and Fitzy could play that forward/relief ruckman for Spencer (better than Pedo). You would assume Fitzy would play better with the third tall (behind Frawley and Dawes) but I don't know if he has deserved a call up yet (not at the expense of JKH, Jones or Kent). -

I would like Salem to spend the whole year at Casey unless he starts to consistently dominate - same goes for Toumpas. Casey allows them to develop their game and try things that they might not be able to do under the spot light (AFL) - also can provide them with great confidence. Also allows them to be in a winning/competitive culture. I am hoping that both Salem and Toumpas can develop their game to the point that when they come into AFL they will be hard at it and able take their time with the ball/use their speed. Toump should definitely work on his speed (don't want him ending up like Trenners). -

Yer - but didn't we also get pick 54 which we used on Viv Michie - he might come in handy -

What annoys me is the "experts" never really mention Salem. I think we accuired just what we needed - a potential star in Tyson who has already been in the footy world for 2 years and could come in and have an immediate impact. We desperately needed immediate improvement for fans and the club and Kelly would not have provided that. We also received Salem at pick 9 in a draft where picks 4-12ish were apparently much the same. The thing I love about getting Tyson and Salem at pick 9 means that Salem has had very little expectation put on his shoulders and can just develop at Casey until ready. I have hardly given Salem or Toumpas any thought this year as our midfield is no longer crying out for help. I think it would have been a different story with Kelly as we would have been putting all our eggs in the one basket and that hasn't worked out well in the past. -
Match Preview and Team Selection - Round 5

I think Gaz is too much for one player - Jones can be the main tagger but McKenzie and Dunn could provide relief and allow Jones to go on the offensive. Jones is one of our key offensive players with his accurate bullet like kicks - if he can tag and attack at the same time that would be great. We also have to worry about Swallow, Omera, Mckenzie etc. Its going to test us but if we can pull it off I and many other supporters will have renewed faith in the club. -
Brett Kirk - Roos' successor?
Young Dee replied to The Song Formerly Known As's topic in Melbourne Demons
He has just placed himself at the top of Roos list (hit list). He better watch himself - I for one would not like to have Roos or PJ as an enemy. -
I don't think it comes down to the number of chances but fielding the best team available
-
Agreed - but he would need to become more consistent - find the ball more and on a regular basis
-
Not the best Hitler parody (Tom scully one is up there) - but that was pretty funny
-
Yes I also doubt he will come straight in - should have at least 1 game at Casey (maybe 60-70% game time)
-
I think thats not too far off my future best 22 - I might move Dunn back and replace Pedersen with Hogan, replace Georgiou with Garland, replace Spencer with a fit and firing/developing Gawn and replace Bail with an improved Trengove/Michie. B - Lynden Dunn - Tom McDonald - Jeremy Howe HB - Jack Grimes - Colin Garland - Daniel Cross C - Jack Watts - Dom Tyson - Bernie Vince HF - Dean Kent - James Frawley - Trengove/Michie F - JKH - Chris Dawes - Jesse Hogan R - Max Gawn - Nathan Jones - Jack Viney I/C - Jordie McKenzie - Matt Jones - Mitch Clisby/Strauss Sub - Blease As kids develop you could add the likes of Toumpas, Salem etc. Howe and Frawley have the ability to switch around and annoy the opposition. This could be a key to our future - flexibility just keep bothering the opposition (Watts is another who can go forward or back/Gawn ruck and forward etc.)
-
Don't want to dampen the mood but I don't think he is a very good tap ruckman and that's the main reason he is there. For a 203cm player he should be able to win some genuine taps. When Jamar used to be ruckman you could see him genuinely win a tap and it go to a Melbourne player but with Spencer it seems as if the opposition wins the tap or neither ruckman really wins the tap. Most of the time they both hit the ball or they get an uncontrolled touch - our midfield would look a lot better with a good tap ruckman - probably explains our lack of clearances. Love the attitude of the bloke tho!

http://www.afl.com.au/video/smart-replay?round=CD_R201401404&matchId=CD_M20140140402 That should work - unless you live overseas?

Thanks WJ for the updates - shame they couldn't get over the line
-
I don't really rate any of them - If Spencer wasn't our only fit ruckman I would be happy to delist all three at years end. As I have said before - Bail has the ability to turn it on once in a while (last week) and I admire him but he I don't see him as a premiership player.

Carn Scorps - as Roos said a good footy culture starts in the reserves.
