  1. Agree. Would top off our trading wonderfully.
  2. I think being lost in Adelaide with nothing to do is completely different to being in the AFL system in Melbourne. He showed none of those tendencies when he was at Melbourne because he had a purpose, and he was mentored and chaperoned constantly by his indigenous fellow players, particularly AAron.. We would have to do that again, but it may well be worth it.Roos has done this before with a number of indigenous players at Sydney. There is a huge upside in this.
  3. Aaron Davey fits the bill perfectly. Also be responsible as the recruiting officer for indigenous talent. He is a quality guy Aaron, and we should use him wisely. Oh, and yes, lets rookie draft Liam. Jurrah is an extraordinary talent, and Roos is just the sort of guy to focus it (with Davey's help). Losing Jurrah and Wonnamari was the beginning of the end of our forward line. Maybe we could persuade Austin to get fit as well. At his best he was one of the best crumbling forwards around.
  4. Good point. Worth thinking about. And far quicker than any of our tall backs
  5. Tip: Lennon would be perfect for us at 9. Pacy, 6'3", booming accurate kick, great mark, specialist HFF, but wants to build his engine to play in the midfield, and very good defensively. Emma Quayle says we will draft him at 9. Sounds perfect to me. A player profile we singularly lack. Have faith in the team doing this. They have delivered outcomes no-one would ever have dreamt of three weeks ago.
  6. I'm sitting here reading this crap. I can't believe how many people do not understand the strategic approach the club has just been through in this trading. The most sophisticated in years, and I believe will set us up for the 8 in one to two years, and a grand final within three. To do that we need to ensure we do not allow our list to be raided as it was with Sylvia. Bernie Vince is a better more consistent player than Colin ever was, and is the same age as Colin. His coming to the club is via Colin's pick. It is a no brainier. I do wish these whingers would think more strategically on some of these issues.
  7. We could also exit some more players before the draft of course. That would not surprise me at all.
  8. As I wrote elsewhere, I think it is significant that they have postponed the appointment of a successor. This may mean they have someone in mind for next year, or it may also mean that Roos is so encouraged by what he is assembling- and he should be -that he is tempted to commit for 5-8 years. Let's hope it is the latter. Remember also, they have not completed the coaches appointment yet. I still think Michael Voss might be in the frame. If he was prepared to listen and learn under Roos, then in five years time he might just be his perfect replacement. He would certainly bring deep football experience, and an incredible will to win. My doubts about him are more that I suspect he is nothing like as smart as Roos, or a Simpson for that matter, and may not have the same commitment to the culture that Roos is building. Still I guess those issues would emerge over time. In view of that, I don't think the appointment of an assistant coach should come with a guarantee you will get the top job. I'm sure PJ and PR are on top of these issues, as they seem to be with everything else. Isn't it great to have full confidence in our leaders at the Club. It makes a pleasant change.
  9. That very much fits Roos culture model which has come though in spades in this draft. Gee these guys have done a great job over the last month. What a [censored] Robinson is...
  10. I always thought Emma Quayle was an extremely good judge of talent. Check this out:- Recruiters want to see 'head first' Lennon in the midfield Wow. Just what we need. A specialist 188cm HFF who kicks lots of goals, is a possession accumulator, and wants to develop an engine so he can play in the midfield, and is quick. Sounds like Sam Bleese with grunt, who can kick long and accurately, great mark, and who can defend. Could be the perfect pick up. Sounds great.
  11. Jaded, well said. I think you make a very significant point. This is not a rebuild from the bottom. Our recruiting here I think is typical Paul Roos. He looks first and foremost for talent, and those who will fit into his gameplay , and then how they can fill gaps in our list. Our obvious weakness is our midfield, but rather than going for "the best in class" (Kelly, Aishe) he has opted for those who are highly talented, but have grunt and are hard insiders (Tyson, Michie, Vince), and have at least some experience. This has been quite remarkable recruiting. The best I can remember from the MFC. We will have a very competitive side next year.
  12. I'm pretty sure Roos sees as one of his primary tasks is to get Watts, Trengove and Grimes playing "the best possible football they can" in this context he said it is important that Jack Watts has a specific role to play and he sees it as being in the midfield, preferrably the Wing. I must say I agree. Trengove at his best is also a pretty good kick for goal and quite an illusive HFF.
  13. Yesterday, makes our first round team look very very different and so much better. I'm assuming we take Lennon at 9, so the first round side looks like this. Certainly so much more competitive than this year's. FB: Garland, Frawley, Terlich HB: Grimes, McDonald, Michie C: , Watts, N.Jones, Tyson HF: Lennon, Dawes, Howe FF: Hogan, Clark, Trengove FOLL: Gawn,Viney, Vince INT: Mckenzie, Toumpas, Fitzy SUB: Cross Emerg: Evans, Bleese, Clisby Thoughts?
  14. Interestingly, he answered that he hadnt seen him play after Wallace asked him a very pointed question "have you ever seen this guy play" in a tone of voice which was quite contemptuous (of Barrott). Wallace seriously rates the kid and said because his father is a mate of his he has followed his progress closely since he was junior and has seen many of his matches since he was 13. He said he has never seen someone dominate the TAC cup as much as this kid did, and his early games for the Giants were simply outstanding leading to a rising star nomination. He said, purely from the Demons point of view, he can quite see why we have bought him, in view of the type of player he is and his outstanding talent. wallace had a similar clash with Barrott yesterday when he was being ridiculously one eyed about North Melbourne. If I can say this though, Barrott's criticisms last year about Neeld's trading were more than justified. This year he just can not understand the subtlety of what is going on.
  15. No I think he is more than that: like Robbo, he is just dumb, and a vicious little [censored] to boot.
  16. Just listened to Barrett with Terry Wallace analyse the Tyson Demons deal. Barrett of course said it was the demons up to their old tricks and throwing away value like last year. Wallace was more balanced and clearly knew Dom Tyson and his family very well. He initially said it was an extraordinarily good deal for GWS since the rated Tyson currently number 6 or seven amongst their mid fielders in view of the small number of games he had played in the last two years. However he did say Dom is an extraordinary talent which can be seen from his TAC cup form and his rising star form from the end of his first year at the Giants. He also said most of the star mid fielders in the draft are smaller skillful outside players which is not what Melbourne needs ie bigger bodied, inside midfielders which if Roos can get him playing to his potential maybe what Melbourne needs. His major criticism was that he thought the deal could have done with pick 2, and 74. He thought pick 20 put it over the top. Interestingly, they did not even mention pick 9 which lacked balance in my view. Barrett is a nong, and is as one eyed about the Kangas as Robinson is about the Dons.
  17. Maybe if we have a spot. actually I think Gysberts would prosper under Roos. At his best he is a real talent, but is a poor trainer and inconsistent. I think, under Roos he could address this. If PR can harness this talent, he could be a real plus. More than anyone else, I think Gysberts has seriously suffered from appallingly bad coaching at Melbourne, at by the time he got to the Kangas he was just cannon fodder. Worth consideration as a PSD pick IMO, if he nominates of course.
  18. As I understand it,Danial Cross is a delisted free agent so does not come under PSD. It is up to the the club and the player to negotiate a deal.
  19. There has been virtually no discussion about our options here. We will after all have the second pick here. Maybe an option for say a Bernie Vince if we can't get the deal done if the Sylvia compo is in the late 30s. There must be some other options for us though in those second tier performers in other clubs, and in Local leagues. Any potential Pods, or Barlows we should be considering?
  20. dees gain mightily though I would suggest
  21. Good summary. I really like this trade as well. Obviously a talented inside midfielder but with elite kicking and endurance ability. A great complement to jack Viney I would say. They are also really good mates apparently. All we need is Ollie Wines and we would have the complete set. Jack Viney is not only a terrific footballer, he clearly is a great recruiter as well!!
  22. Let's assume Sylvia compensation is pick 21. That puts us in a great position to get two more quality midst (eg crouch) plus Cross. It is starting to look seriously good. Well done to the team, PJ and Paul Roos. That's what happens, when have professionals in charge of the asylum.
  23. But why would he? To reunite with that [censored] Skully? Don't think so....
