  1. Presumably b/c he perceived they could not win a premiimership, which turned out to be right over that period. Wonder what he thinks now?
  2. This morning on Whately on SEN Natham Buckley let slip that he was a Dees supporter as a teenager. Interesting…
  3. I agree in part. I think they might stick with Tmac partly because it gives us more flexibility given he is also an elite backman, but l think there is little to separate them as key forwards. For the Weid to change this he will have to consistently hold his pack marks as he did with his first game back but it seems to have largely disappeared since then.
  4. Here, here!! A of B. Well said. It has been open slather on umpires for far too long, and the reaction to my original posting on here was sadly all to predictable. Clearly there are many Demonlanders who consider umpire abuse as a blood sport. Fortunately, the game’s powers that be have belatedly disagreed. The game will be far better for these modifications to the rules, particularly when everyone gets used to them. l seem to remember similar outcry when the out of bounds on the full rule was bought in, the centre square rule, and more recently the 6:6:6 rule. Now that they have been in place for a while, very few question them. So it will be once these new interpretations have been around for a while, although there will always be some who resist any sort of change. Such is life!
  5. It is easy - just don't do it. I think it is a great rule. It speeds up the game and almost eliminates "show-boating" leaving the game's famous posers with no-where to go except 50m down field away from their goals or looking at the apposition goal while they take the subsequent free kick. It also takes pressure off the Umpires which can only be a good thing given the immense difficulty of their task and the abuse they have had to put up with over so many years. No wonder the AFL has so much difficulty in filling their ranks at all levels. That can now be expected to improve which can only be a good thing.
  6. I’ve got a bad feeling about this game, which l haven’t had for any other games this year. The talk from David King about us being 50% better than any other team this year, and then having that re-enforced on AFL 360 makes me very uneasy. It would be very easy for us to fall back into old habits. Goody and the coaching staff have a real challenge on their hands tonight….l hope lm wrong but l fear l am not……
  7. I agree. Carlton, Dogs and Cats all exposed by mid list sides last week.I agree Cats too old which will be exposed as the season goes on. l think our main threats are GWS and Swans, but let’s see how they go as the the season progresses. My guess is it will find them out……
  8. And tone fair most of the media have given that to us. No-one I’ve seen has turned on us - yet!
  9. I think the return of the Weid will help Friita enormously. Clearly his form currently is at a very high level, and will take some of the attention off Frita.
  10. Still worth a try though early in the season. If it works would add greatly to our structure.
  11. Sounds like a chip off the old block. Wish him well…
  12. I reckon BBB and Weid will both play key forwards in future and Tmac will start on the bench and be the swingman for key positions forward and back and Wing. Great position to be in and gives us ultimate flexibility. interesting to note that in an interview recently Tmac reminded everyone about his credentials as a key back. Whether this was securing his position or not, it means that he is happy playing both forward and back and provides us with considerable gameday flexibility.
  13. I reckon Gus has improved immensely since the rumours started that he was going to be traded to make salary cap room for Jackson. His last 2-3 weeks have been immense and easily in our best half dozen players. The Jackson issue though isn’t going away. We are going to lose one of our highly valued players.
  14. No l disagree. The MCG will be our home ground from next year and need to start building home ground advantage. It would not surprise me if the girls became curtain raisers at the G for some games next year although l know they are resisting. The economics just make sense as does full integration to make little difference b/w the girls and boys teams. Good for supporters too!
  15. I think the Weid will stay at CHF, and Brown will return at FF. McDonald will now return to the backline, at which he is actually quite good at, and apparently love playing there. all good, and strengthens our side
  16. Don’t agree., There are serious outbreaks in Western Europe, the US, and Perth. This epidemic is far from over. I for one am going to continue to be careful. And l hope others do too.
  17. By all reports about Mitch Brown’s current form in the 2s. It would not surprise if he got the bid over Weid. Both would be good, but clearly the Weid has more long term potential. interesting times!
  18. Yes it is a tremendous incentive when you think that signing Luke for another two years, could lead to us winning 4 flags in a row; 2021. 2022. 2023. and 2024. Even if he does go elsewhere post 2024, personally I'd take that.
  19. I think the really big difference to the instances above is that all of them were negotiated in the context of the Demons never winning, and had not prospect of winning a flag. Now we are the powerhouse, and the clubs most likely to offer extraordinary terms to Luke are WEST COAST and Freo, neither of which have any prospect for a flag in the next 5 years. Having said that, if you are a 21 yo being offered $1m a year for the next 8 years you might consider it. If he stays we are going to have to give up key players (Brayshaw, Neill-Bullen, Fritz) none of whom I would be prepared to give up Personally, l think he is gone, and we should now think about the compensation, and our back up ruck strength is pretty good. it is an extraordinary dilemma, and one that comes with great success. If the success continues as we expect it to, it will be an ongoing ever increasing problem - unfortunately!
  20. You’ve just proved my point. Talking to a brick wall is always so productive!
  21. My point was that the recording it was so egregious, that was a good thing that it came out irrespective of whether he recorded it or not. He does not deserve a road back - there is no room for these sorts of Neanderthal ideas in todays media, particularly in an area so central to many people’s lives (AFL) and therefore very influential on impressional teenagers and others. l notice already the likes of Caroline Wilson and Eddie Maguire are flagging on the latest footy classified they are preparing to open the doors for Morris’s return in under a year which would be an outrage if this were to occur. I’m sure given their current attitude to this Foxtel would require considerable persuasion, although given Maguire/Wilson long standing “in” with Channel 9 nothing is impossible unfortunately.
  22. Some people really don't "get" this. I am glad it came out as it showed Tom Morris to be the plonk he really is. Whether the recording was made with permission or not (and in the days of iphone what difference does it make) it is important for us to know that Morris is a racist and is sexist. He had the power over the airwaves (and in print) and that information is relevant to the general understanding of where he is coming from in his writings and commentaries. It also informed Foxtel and the AFL as to who he really was, and so they were able to get him off the air before he did irreparable damage to both the AFL and Foxtel bands.
  23. I don't think it is in the least bit incoherent. It is very specifically racist (and sexist). It is saying it is ok to discriminate against people like this, but not me cos i am white and male. How much more racist do you want?
