  1. Saw a Brownlow predictor yesterday that Petracca leading, not sure why as he’s hardly set this season alight. Big numbers in some games but far from his electric best. No reason he can’t dominate tonight.
  2. Based on our last 2 weeks as well as other results ie Hawks over Saints every game is a danger game. I’m naively expecting a different looking Dees tomorrow night.
  3. I like these changes, our fwd line has a Collingwood like feel to it, but in order for this to work and be effective we to change our delivery inside fwd 50. I’m expecting our pressure game to return tomorrow night as well. The addition of Thommo allows lever to get back to his natural game. Lets go Dees!
  4. Just got off the phone to the club, I was successful getting 4 guest passes and 4 general admission tickets. If you had rang up last week or earlier and were put on the list you should also be good to go.
  5. This years flag is there for the taking for an experienced talented list, like ours. Yet we’re still working out how not to get stuck in our back half and to deliver the ball inside fwd 50. You can’t make this stuff up.
  6. Why are the pies better? Because they play that way now? Have you watched them play? They turn the ball over a lot but their opponents aren’t always able to hurt them going the other way. They defend well, but when they do have it they only bomb it inside 50 as a last resort. The way they play rattles a lot of sides plus their relentless pressure creates turnovers and opportunities. I’d like to see us play that way for the first 1/2 of every 1/4 next week. It doesn’t take a full preseason to change the way you play. If Leppitsch is going anywhere surely it’s as a senior coach. Have none of our coaches got any new ideas, are we unable to watch opposition games and make our own analysis? Are the Pies that skilful? Their best kick is arguably in his last season. Player for player, our list matches up quite well. Pies have also been struck with injuries this year but their system / gameplan holds up well, and yes there’s a bit of luck involved. We’re not going to find luck hugging the boundary line. I agree with bringing in another tall defender, I think once Petty returns he has to go back. We need to let Lever play his natural game. I’m not sure BB is the answer, if we don’t change the way we deliver into fwd 50 it won’t matter who’s playing up fwd. JVR has been given game time but have we given him the best chance to succeed. When going for a mark inside forward 50 he’s often competing against multiple defenders because our fwds don’t separate.
  7. Mihocek is the Pies KPF, a solid contributor but hardly a star. But the difference is the Pies know this and kick to his advantage.
  8. Disagree, they’ll murder us if we continue what we’ve been doing. We’ve got a defensive unit that can stop them but currently we won’t hurt them on the scoreboard. What would you have us do differently if anything?
  9. If Goody was to get sacked after the Carlton game (purely as a hypothetical) and the interim coach said “ok we’ve got the pies this, let’s play them at their own game, let’s play with pace, run in numbers, hunt the opposition when the have the ball. Let’s play a smaller fwd line, let’s get it in quick, low and direct, let’s change the way we come out of the back half. Let’s leave Kosi / Fritsch isolated at times in the goal square and kick it to their advantage, let’s leave JVR one out and kick it in front of him instead of on top of him whilst Kosi and Chandler steam in from opposite pockets to anticipate the ball drop”. etc etc…. We’d almost wipe them and everyone would be saying where’s this been for the past 12 months. Goody is the coach and yes he built a lot of this team but we have a very stale feel about us currently. Why does it take a change of coach (most times) to change things up?
  10. Anyway I don’t know why I care so much, the AFLW and VFL teams might go back to back and that will make everything better….
  11. Making top 4 on the back of beating up on weaker clubs twice in a season has all the hallmarks on the Lions of recent years. Good shape - scoring sources? Our problem is we can’t score against other top 4/8 hopefuls. Our fwds have no separation, the ball constantly being bombed in, no smalls at the drop of the ball. These are basics taught at junior level. How have we changed the way we play? I’d argue other teams have changed and we’re still hanging our hat on the 2021 flag. Fast ball movement by hand or foot to players running in numbers opens us up every time. We are too predictable, Dimma said it after Anzac Eve, everyone knows how to beat us they just didn’t have the cattle to execute it long enough. The last 2 weeks prove him to be correct. Due to other teams falling over themselves and our soft draw we will play finals. But unless we change the way we play we are simply fools gold. Yesterday’s loss was nothing to do with the absence of Petty and Oliver, purely an outdated gameplan and a coach refusing to change things up. How the [censored] can none of Goodwin (premiership coach), Choco (premiership coach) Yze (multiple assistant premiership coach) identify the way were playing and moving the ball inside fwd 50 is not sustainable this year?
  12. In all honesty the ALFW and VFL premierships are nice to have but the fortunes of this great club rise and fall on the success of the men’s teams. We are a brainsnap / stubbornness away from turning this season around. For all of our so called coaching brainstrust, what can’t they see that the Pies are doing. Why do we continue to do what doesn’t work against quality opposition?
  13. In other words what Collingwood is doing. Only difference is we can defend better.
  14. Bullet like passes into a smaller fwd line, if we don’t mark it force a stoppage and set up behind the footy. Let the smalls / mids go to work.
  15. Madness. We have a top 3 list talent wise but aren’t playing anywhere close. Collingwood are sitting back laughing at everyone else, their opponents are rattled by quick ball movement. Opportunities favour the brave.
  16. Teams are falling over themselves this year, I still believe we can go deep into September but the coaches need to acknowledge they’ve got it wrong. Quick ball movement to an open fwd line is critical. When Petty returns he must go back into defence. Defence is still so important and what made us great. Fritsch is too agile for bigger defenders and will out mark smaller ones but we don’t play to his advantage. Kosi is a massive asset but again, how do we use him. Now Salem is back surely we can use a Bowey up fwd. We don’t need to change everything, just tweak a few things. Lever May Hibberd Salem Petty Rivers Langdon Oliver Hunter Bowey JVR Melksham / Smith Chander Fritsch Kosi Gawn Petracca Viney Grundy Sparrow Brayshaw Spargo All being available i’d run with this, time to mix things up. Quick ball movement, less predictable, turnovers will occur but our defence can and will cope. I don’t want to die wondering….
  17. Our problems have been evident for the last 23 games yet nothing changes. Rants are justified. Our talent is obvious but our gameplan is stale and outdated. Too late making changes when the game is lost.
  18. Can’t have TMac and Brown together, ever again.
  19. Looking forward to the post game thread where people can tell us we don’t understand players roles. We overcomplicate this game.
  20. TMac is just stamping his authority on this game.
