Can't believe that. That shows a clear lack of desire and hunger if true.
Newsflash Max, probably half the posters here, myself included, played finals in junior football. It was junior football! You played finals by just showing up and not getting distracted by oranges at half time and other kids having a laugh! You are a 26 year professional AFL player and you have the same level of finals experience as half the bloody people sitting in offices across the country. You should be f*cking embarrassed by your efforts and your failure, not joking about it! You got paid handsomly for 5-6 years to smoke ciggies and stuff around until you finally grew up. You've had 1 good season, and 6 shite-average ones. Time to take responsibility, wok your ass off give something back.

Yep, maybe I'm clutching at straws and hindsight is a wonderful thing but I believe the club failed in the week leading up to the game to get these guys focused.

I know the telethon on the footy show is for a great cause but watching Max hug Goldsack last Thursday night didn't sit well with me.

Regardless of what happened earlier on the year we had one single objective and we failed miserably on Saturday.

Even when the boys came out for their usual kick and snaps at goals prior to their main warm-up it didn't sit right with me, I know it's great for us the fans and our kids  but they have been kind enough all season with clinics and so forth.

Maybe I'm digging too deep for answers but how can we get it so wrong in what was a massive statement game for the club?

We cannot sugarcoat it, 2017 just missed the mark. A pass was to play one finals game, anything above that was a great year, anything below was a failure.

    In all of the doom and gloom of the past 48 hours, thanks is due to a few of the Melbourne family for some excellent achievements thus far;

First of all, to the members/supporters, thank you. We broke our membership record this year, and also our games attendance record. That is a massive achievement, to step up and support such a frustrating team is no easy task. Thank you for showing up and supporting your guts out. Watching the MCC side of the G erupt due to a goal or a bad umpiring call is showing the rest of the league how passionate our supporter base are.

Secondly, to PJ and GB, thank you. Both of you were instrumental in getting our off and on field structure/foundations right. You have dragged a hopeless team out of the gutter and made us relevant again. You said you would do it, and you delivered. Thank you.

Thirdly, Paul Roos, thank you. The easiest thing PR could have done was to stay in the media. He would have made enough of a salary, and kept this coaching record up there with the greats. He took a risk with Melbourne, poured his heart and soul into the club, and lived up to his word by making our club 'competitive' again. You have build the foundations to allow our football department to be very successful. Going from 4 wins to 12 in a mighty improvement.

Michael Hibberd and Jake Melksham; thank you. Watching both of you play for our club this year has been a pleasure. You have both thrown your bodies on the line, on numerous occasions and have completely bought into making this club successful again. Thank you for choosing us, and thank you for working your buts off. (If there is any doubt on Melksham, talk to any bombers supporters about how much he has surprised them this year, he has been massive)

Jesse Hogan, thank you. No one would have challenged you, or complained, if you wrote off this year after your fathers death, your cancer scares, your shoulder, or anything else this shocking year has thrown at you. Thank you for working your butt off to get back into the team, and winning games for us. Without you last week, we wouldn't have even been able to dare to dream this weekend just gone. Thank you for not giving up.

Clayton Oliver, thank you. Second year players normally go through second year blues, and are always forgiven for it. However, you didn't allow this to happen. You stepped up when you were challenged on field, off field, through a fence, and put your name into superstar status. You showed 43 other players on the list what consistent football is, even when being heavily tagged. Thank you for showing us supporters you have a lions heart.

There are more players who deserve a thank you, including Jayden Hunt, Jordan Lewis, Nathan Jones, Jeff Garlett, Cam Pedersen, Christian Petracca, but I'll leave it at that.

    Onwards to 2018.

Great call on the former Bomber boys, although to me Hibberd slowed a bit the last few weeks his commitment cannot be questioned.

Big pat on the back for the Milkshake, his second half of the year was outstanding and one of handful that tried to win the game for us on Saturday.

These two missed a year of football and showed some of our boys on how to play like it's their last.

Honestly, has anyone got any suggestions for alternative things to do than sit through the 2017 AFL Finals series. I'm willing to take up anything. Dancing, Arthouse movie groups, badger baiting, anything other than watching this Finals series!

Got nothing mate, this is as bad a feeling as the one I felt after my high school sweetheart dumped me.

I had a rough night.. Didn't sleep too well & was dreaming about what happened, I can't believe it affects me this badly.. I'm worse today than I was last night. It'll hurt the players no doubt but I honestly think it hurts us long time die hard fans more, going to take awhile to get over this... I hope someone from the club fronts the media today, we need an apology

I'm going for Max dressed up as an ump in some pub in Richmond.

Of the 23 rounds, we finished 16 of them in the 8 (i.e. before this week, only 6 weeks out of the 8).

Thanks, I would have guessed 5 tops without looking back, gosh this hurts!

  6. Wow, I still can't believe this horrible feeling in my gut exists nearly two days on and I'm afraid it won't go away any time soon. Can't bear to watch the next 4 weeks of football in all honesty.

How many weeks out of the 23 did we spend out of the 8?

It doesn't really matter though does it Simon Goodwin, after all, it matters where you sit at the end of the 23 weeks.

Listening to SEN at the moment because I'm a gluton for punishment, and there's talk suggesting MFC supporters were booing Watts yesterday.

I didn't pick up on this, albeit in the member's - anyone else?

WTF? It was the Pies fans booing I thought.

Not just the players, the coaches who failed to get them up for the fight.  Do we need a sports psychologist?

Think that Goodwin should have embraced finals rather than round 23 being just another match.  So much a stake we should have come out breathing fire!

Right now, this sums it up for me and that's my only concern.

The talk of which players should be axed or traded will come in October and we will have plenty of time to discuss all summer.

Some of the players people want out are the reason we won 12 games this year and some of them very exciting but I want answers on what happened between 1.45pm and 2.15pm yesterday.

September is just around the corner. After 11 years, we’re knocking on the door of finals with the chance to be a part of something special. For everyone in the Melbourne family – from the players, the coaches and the officials – we are excited to share this journey with you, our loyal fans and club members. This is as much your moment as it is ours. Months of hard work have brought us to this point and we now need your support more than ever.

I really wish the club didn't send out that email mid week.

    So embarrassing!

I was surpised to receive it also but i bet you the person that clicked send, will be the first person delisted in the off season.

Shudder to think what the vibe is like in the Viney household tonight. I imagine Todd and Jack watched together.

Just yesterday he was fielding questions on 3AW about whether he'll play in the first final. [censored], he must be livid right now.

Livid alright, also probably filthy at himself for not getting up for yesterdays game judging by his character and he shouldn't be.

    Pathetic weak efforts as always.

Each time we need to and should win we stuff it up completely.

We need to look at all areas. Too often we keep on keeping on.

Goody needs to realisr that vince and Salem are not defenders.

Tmac either plays forward or they hammer him until he can kick a football.

Oliver must learn to handball a lot less.

Tyson needs to improve his kicking.

Viney should be made sole captain and the leadership group re vamped.

Hogan needs to show intensity more often and lead for the ball more often.

And our game plan needs tp whole off 25% of our handballs.

    That's a start.

I'm inclined to agree on the Viney statement. Probably the only one that has punched holes in his walls tonight.

  13. Two things from yesterday will haunt me all summer.

    1. What attributed to that horrid start yesterday? Players weren't mentally on? If no, why the F%#K not?

    2. If yes, what kind of a plan did the coaches come up with all week to allow that friggin club to have 11 scoring shots on us in the first quarter?

I won't go as far back as early in the season to lament cause I'm officially drained right now because  there was an opportunity yesterday regardless of close encounters earlier and we screwed it up good and proper.

You get what you deserve Melbourne! Let's hope this burns all preseason for them, they're probably preparing mad Monday for tomorrow though ????

The club should ban mad Monday, any player caught drinking out tomorrow shall rot at Casey for the first 6 weeks of the season.

They can drink at home all they want but going out in public after this weekends debacle would just be spitting in our faces.

Im picturing goodwin watching this game right now. What would he be thinking.

I wonder how many of the other boys are watching? I hope this is hurting them and making them angry.

Goodwin is saying to himself,  " I just figured out where we are sitting after round 23."

    Pffft!!!!!

Only got ourselves to blame for this stupid situation. I hope the players are sitting at home feeling sick to their stomachs right now having blown a golden opportunity to make finals.

    Idiots!

I'm wondering if the players are watching it together somewhere or if they are going on about their usual daily routine of social media surfing?
