.....and as for all this booing about a match that wasnt even played against England.....they have been done for ball tampering at least 3 times in recent history, Atherton in 1994 against South Africa and Marcus Trescothick in the 2005 Ashes series. Atherton was found to have dirt in his pocket that he applied to the ball, was fined 2000 pounds and it was further found he lied to the match committee. Trescothick admitted in his book released 3 years after the series to using sweets that kept the shine on the ball longer and produced the swing we saw in that series which England won 2-1. Stuart Broad and Jimmy Anderson were found to have used their boot spikes to scratch the ball in a game against South Africa in a test in 2010. Although South Africa complained, no charges were laid mainly because South Africa won by a big margin. ........so they can shut up.

I thought you might. Sorry about the mix up. I thought Italy had already started, but i think last week must have been practice matches. One never knows whats going on in Italy...only the Italians! Lets hope the original bet is a slow burn. DZ said hed post me an update, but hes disappeared. Weekend sporting pass must have been revoked at the last minute! Go the Reds! Edit: 2-0

Yes exactly Macca, i was thinking afl and its at least a week mandatory. You just couldnt expose all his bruises so quickly. There are helmets with that area protected, but apparently Smith wont wear one as he doesnt feel comfortable so im told....

I really hope hes getting the best medical care available. Im quite worried about him. There can be ongoing complications from a blow like that. I dont think he will play in the next match either. I saw Archer interviewed before the game. I was quite impressed. He was humble and quite appologetic and said nobody wants to see people carried off. He also referred to the Hughes incident.

Hes real quick Macca and its his first test! They only get better if they make it. He also has such an easy action and generating 96mph on an English wicket. God help us when he gets to Australia.

Pretty much Macca. Perhaps they didnt realize how bad his injury could have been, considering he was back out so soon. Ive put in a sub bet because i didnt realize the Italian soccer doesnt start till next week. In keeping with superstition i will make it my best next week. See above

Smith didnt deserve to be booed after a life threatening injury?.....its a completely different situation. He shouldnt have taken any further part in the game, let along be back batting an hour later. That is just shear courage and under no circumstances deserves to be booed. He is a true Australian champion. I dont think Australian crowds would continue to boo somebody after they have been seriously injured? Its just not Australian. But [censored] will be [censored] i agree on that. Its simply pack mentality. As for Archer smiling, he needs to grow up. Lets see how Smith answers them tonight. Probably should continue discussion in the cricket thread!

Yes the draw is looking likely, then again England could collapse with some good bowling this morning....they gave that many chances last night, it was unbelievable. As for Warner dropping 3 catches....They lost the last 3 overs due to rain. England win is not out of the question if they could get 200 in front and unleash a barrage. We could collapse in 2 sessions. Smith is the difference. Hes playing a different game to everybody else. That blow to the neck was terrifying. You immediately thought of Hughes, as it was the exact same spot and he was dry reaching as he fell. They didnt even replay it, until they knew Smith was ok. As for the Poms booing him when he came back out. That was just unbelievable and Lords would be very upset with that and so they should be. An utter disgrace. Come on Aussie, come on come on.

Ok Macca....did you watch the cricket last night? Was one of the most amazing days play ever. Im tempted to go with the Aussies as a BB, but the forecast says 20% chance of rain....even losing 10 overs would be bad. Dont think hes gonna be too popular when they come out here in 18 months... I didnt see it, but the footage of him when Smith was lying on the ground. Didnt even wonder over to see if he was ok. That ball that hit him in the neck was exactly the same ball that killed Hughes....exactly. He was dry reaching as he fell. ...6 bouncers in an over? You used to be warned after 2 or 3...

Great summary Macca. Perfect. Bookmark it and we can go back and look later. Yes thats a very good point actually re Fundamentalist. Im not thinking.....yes its a win for us. I took the place option as i wasnt sure re fitness and there was a bit of rain around which can always throw up a surprise at Caulfield. I had a mate get the trifecta in the Mystic Journey race......it only paid $38.00 which is a little on the low side, but i guess the big pools are not here yet.

Shall we do a wrap? I think that was a pretty good start. I think we should look at last weeks as a practice match, JLT Cup.... So we are 4:1.1.2 ? I had 3 for the place with Mystic for a win, multi so i did ok. As soon as i saw Grey Shadow in the mounting yard, i said oh look out for that and pmd DZ just that! Nevermind, closer than the Dees got. Some great runs and a few pointers so far. Godolphin had how many runners in the 5th? Guess we have to watch out for them early i think.....thoughts anyone?
