Players to target at the end of the year
Ted Lasso replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
Teams have been in contact with chip for over 12 months, because of free agency this is now what's normal, if a team feels they are going to lose a player because they can't match an offer they may look at a good deal through trading rather than losing the player for nothing. Teams will try and get Nathan Jones, he's a free agent next year and far more likely to stay on but he is too good a player to not have a dig Anyways I hope we have a serious look at a skillful half back, our turnovers from that part of the game are seriously costing us -
Yeah I tend to agree, I think learning under Stone and Roosy is a pretty good opportunity, and the stage of the rebuild puts him in a good position to learn how to when he takes over a club, effect some similar rebuilding tactics and try and implement culture and such
-
I have heard North Melbourne are very interested in getting him on board full time also, I believe he is doing some part time mentoring or something along those lines there at the moment.
-
He was, commented that he felt Luke Hodge at the time was a far more complete player, but reckons Gary Ablett Jr is currently the best player of all time
-
I'm not sure on that one mate, I think there is a huge possibility they're going to back themselves to keep him regardless of what we offer, but if we offer a really good deal like that there is an outside chance they will at least look at it, anxiety over losing players for nothing will become much more potent a weapon in this sort of situation once the compo is scrapped altogether and it becomes a prospect of getting nothing for a star player.
-
I found it to be a strange comment on his part, surely McCartin the likely number 1 pick has been more impressive than Goddard, a bloke who will possibly slide outside the top 15
-
Sorry Pennant, are you referring to Durdin or Goddard?
-
Very handy player, seemed to be playing the best footy of his career before he was struck down.
-
If we were to look to replace Chip via the draft Durdin would be the obvious choice for mine did anyone else on here watch on the couch this week? Michael Turner saying Hugh Goddard is on par with Luke Hodge as the best two prospects to come out of the Geelong Falcons in his opinion, could very easily prove to be a bargain pick, was rated top 5 besides his poor champs
-
I think a huge part of it is the list, would Horse, Buckley or Chris Scott have been able to do anything with our list? Would Neeld, Bailey and Watters faired better if they were hired by Geelong or Sydney when Horse and Scott took over? it's always a big gamble, I think more and more coaches are going to become hesitant to apply for jobs at lower teams

Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>
Ted Lasso replied to Jonesbag's topic in Melbourne Demons
I really hope the bombers miss finals, it would be a shame if a more deserving team missed out only for the bombers to receive bans and so on just when it becomes too late. -
Kirk will be the successor in my opinion, Ling will be a development coach.
-
Roosy has a different view of watts to the demonland posters. What would a premiership coach know
-
Maybe Lingy could bring in the first all ginger coaching group?

Players to target at the end of the year
Ted Lasso replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
Exactly, players to target... You can target a player a year out. It doesn't say players to recruit for 2015. I'm sorry I made the suggestion. -

Ted Lasso replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
You asked why I mentioned it, I answered, didn't say I would do it, just that I believe he is gettable and why I don't believe it is out of place on this thread. -
Also a pretty handy leader, communicator, personality for coaching.

Players to target at the end of the year
Ted Lasso replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
as i'm sure you are aware free agency targets are established and the lines of conversation are opened earlier and earlier, the end of this year and start of next year would be a good time to start considering Scott, his contract is up in 2016, so at the end of 2015, if Collingwood look like losing him the next year because say the MFC have a deal they can't match on table they will have to consider a trade. I would have no issue with the club going to Scott and saying that at the end of next year there is a very good contract on offer for you to join the club. it's no different to Hawthorn targeting Cotchin or Dangerfield -
Players to target at the end of the year
Ted Lasso replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
Because I think we should target the best players in the AFL when they become available while we have massive salary cap space, I am out of my mind, wanting to have a half decent side for once, shame on me. -

Look that's your opinion, I have a different view, I think when Scott's current contract is up, he is very gettable, -

So you don't believe any player has, or will anytime soon change clubs because of money. Gary Ablett Brendan Goddard Tom Scully Rhyce Palmer Callan ward Dale Thomas Mitch Clark Lance Franklin Pendels grew up a Dees supporter, and the nature of free agency is going to be that you either move for money or you move for success. maybe Pendels is a long shot, but so was Roosy. -
Kirk for me is a far better option than either, he has 3 years of assistant coaching under his belt already, before that played in a premiership under Roosy, knows the game plan and culture we are aiming for inside out.

Ted Lasso replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
In a suggestion thread about players we could potentially target, absolutely, and I don't see the issue with that, does not say it has to realistic in the thread title, if you don't like the suggestion simply pass over it. -
