Key forwards - let's go shopping!
I don't think the key forwards are the problem. It's field position and kicking efficiency going inside 50. Furthermore, what about a quality small crumbing forward, we do indeed lack there.

DAMN! Thanks for popping my bubble

Key forwards - let's go shopping!
I can't believe this thread arose so soon. We had Hogan with a year to run on his contract and bent over at the trade table when dishing him off. We then got an unfit and unprofessional May and hyped KK (hopefully he comes to fruition). The club's plan was to have Weideman, T.Mc, and Preuss/Gawn as tall targets up front. I say stick to that instead go hard for J.Kelly and J.Martin who'll provide us with outside run and kicking efficiency going inside 50. Also, fix the position of the full forward - have someone near constantly leading from the square (or close to). If there are still problems, then look elsewhere.

Field Layout & Player Placement
It was very frustrating sitting at last weekend's game. The thing that both baffled and frustrated me most was the placement of players. For the majority of the first three quarters, we had no one, or at least Lockhart at full forward. The likes of Smith and T.McDonald were starting and leading from CHF (or close to). The current game plan is horrendously congested. The mentality behind it is to win the ball. The problem is getting it out. Far too often our players look to the right or left for a teammate immediately next to them. This wastes time and causes our forwards to run back into our open 50 (sh*t we saw in the Bailey years). If our forwards fail to get free the inefficient ball movement wastes crucial time resulting in a flooded forward 50. Now, as I said above the most frustrating thing was the starting positions at a stoppage. In contrast, GWS had Cameron leading from the square all day. They also had their half-forwards spread out wider. So when they won the ball they had more room to run and more room to lead and hit a target. YES, basic football. It wasn't until the start of the final quarter Tom McDonald started, and somewhat stayed, deeper at stoppage. This IMO was a major catalyst for our final quarter run on (exc. GWS knowing they had it in the bag). Why Goodwin waited all game to make this move is beyond me. Maybe it's the inner gambler thinking things will miraculously come good when down (that's a bit harsh). I've been harping on about our inefficient ball movement for years. But my word, is it too much to ask the team properly utilises the MCG's enormous space properly? On top of that, put faith in our ball winners such as Viney, Oliver, Brayshaw, Jones, and Harmes, and let them clear it out to a man in space (preferably further than 15m).

It's only taken Goodwin three quarters to figure out that Tom McDonald should be playing and staying at full forward. For the first three it was Lockhart.

Look at the difference in setup. Ball is up our end and GWS have three players including Cameron in their forward 50. We on the other hand find ourselves running backwards into the square. I was watching this [censored] in the Bailey years.

This game plan is disgusting. The club ethos not too far off. Lick the ice-cream and get rewarded with a cold. I watch Hore tear it up and play naturally. Goes back with the flight and eyes for the footy. This time next year he'll be like the rest of them. This game plan and style is pathetic. We want to call the MCG our own but never utilise it's full space. We don't put enough faith in the like of Oliver, Brayshaw, and Viney around the ball to then clear it out to space. Everyone in the team looks to the left or right for a shitty handball or chip kick. In doing so we constantly waste crucial seconds to get it to someone open down the field. By then, the opposition flood. I'm over this rubbish. I'm over the coaching staff. We need a paid third-party investigation and be sure the right heads roll by the end of the season.
