  1. That makes 6 weeks off. The 2nd offence drug strike policy is that a player must have a 6 week ban. Coincidence?
  2. I understand where you're coming from, which is fair enough, I just think a Lucas Cook debut isn't our highest priority at the minute, just let him learn
  3. I agree he isn't in the best of form but around the middle of the year people were calling for his to replace Clark. As shown above, I wouldn't have him in the best 22 but there's no harm in allowing him to put on weight and play against stronger bodies at Casey for now
  4. Looking at our list it is obvious that although there are some talented players, there are also many deficiencies. It's time the MFC takes a tougher approach, and get rid of all the players that will not move the club forward. Travis Cloke, Charlie Dixon, Chris Knights, Shannon Byrnes, Myke Cook, Koby Stevens and Dean Galea will most likely all be available at the end of the year and i think the recruitment staff should make a play for every single one of them. They will add greater depth to our list and introduce some valuable experience to our young list. Cloke, Knights and Byrnes are all free agents meaning we can get them without having to trade. Also Byrnes and Knights are out of favour at their respective clubs so we could pick them up rather cheaply Cook and Galea are both dominating the vfl and would be available with either a 3rd or 4th round pick (Cook) or rookie pick (Galea). This would leave Dixon and Stevens as the only players that we would actually need to give something up for and I'm sure something could be arranged to get the deals done. From the list we would be able to add 2 forwards, 3 midfielders, a forward/2nd ruck (allowing Clark to stay deep) and a small midfielder/forward, with Dixon being the only one that may demand a big salary in the future (other than Cloke obviously) Hopefully add to the list pick 3 (Toumpas), 4 (Mayes/J.Martin) and 13 (Kennedy), as well as Viney and suddenly we have depth all over the ground. Imagine the options we would have with: FB: Nicholson/Tapscott Frawley Rivers/Garland HB: Grimes McDonald/Sellar Watts C: Trengove/M.Cook Toumpas/Stevens Mayes/J.Martin HF: Knights/Kennedy Cloke Howe/Sylvia FF: Byrnes/Blease Clark Galea/Dixon (CHF if we can't get Cloke) FOLL: Jamar Jones Viney/McKenzie With players such as L.Cook, Davis and Gawn also developing at Casey, the future looks bright for the MFC. Suddenly we have about 30 blokes that are ready to play and very few holes remain. Players that should make way: Green, Lawrence, Evans, Bartram, Bate, Bennell, Morton, Petterd, Moloney, Jurrah (unfortunately), Davey
  5. reckon jake neade could be a good pick up with a 3rd or 4th round pick. Kevin Sheehan says: “Pocket rocket midfielder/forward who attacks the ball aggressively and tackles strongly. Has terrific speed and endurance and is very creative in setting up the play. Had an outstanding NAB AFL Under-18 Championships averaging 18.4 disposals and 3.6 tackles in winning the Harrison Medal (Div 2 B&F) and All-Australian honours.” sounds like a bit of a leon davis/chris yarran type that could bring some x-factor to the team
  6. we should be focussing on using pick 13 on a type of player we really need. a speedy, talented player like ben kennedy or dayle garlett would be far more beneficial than another inside mid, we will be getting viney for that job
  7. callinan with 4 against the lions last night, height clearly wasn't a factor there. galea also booted 4 yesterday, definately wouldn't be disappointed with him on our list
  8. would be a handy pick up but not worth giving up a first round pick for
  9. i understand that this guy has serious talent, however, i don't see the point of potentially picking two of the same player (wines and viney) with the first two picks. we already have jones, mckenzie, sylvia, gysberts and to an extent, moloney, as ball winners and desperately require outside runners. someone like mayes would be a much better option.
  10. Two characteristics that we desperately need. wouldn't be losing much by using a rookie pick, if it doesn't work out so be it, at least he won't be the worst pick we've ever made
  11. Two up and coming gun forwards vs a midfielder that appears to be on the way down and a half forward that is struggling for form. maybe a 4th round pick instead
  12. i feel he can become a stronger version of stewart crameri (only 190cm) and create a contest where smaller players eg. blease can become involved
  13. As Neeldy has mentioned numerous times, our team clearly requires another big forward that can assist Mitch up front. After watching him numerous times in the vfl, i believe that Dean Galea could prove to be a handy pick up with a late or even rookie pick. He has a ready made body for afl, as well an aggressive attitude that enables him to crash packs with ease. I understand that he is already in his mid 20's, however, he could be a quick fix for our obvious hole, like Podsiadly did for Geelong.
  14. also mentions that charlie dixon could be on the move. if we could get a deal done that involved day and dixon (although this is obviously unlikely to happen), we could go along way to building a young and promising forward line, a bit like wce with kennedy, darling, cox/naitanui and lynch Day and Dixon -> Moloney, Petterd, 3rd round pick
  15. Day would be the only one worth going for as he is a promising KPF that was highly rated as a junior Knights and Drummond are over the hill IMO
  16. sorry fellas didn't know about it
  17. well with people so intrigued on midfielders i thought we needed a new thread to talk about the lesser known
  18. I have noticed that in numerous threads people have been talking about picking genuine gun midfielders with our early picks, however, another issue that i think must be discussed is what the club intends to do with our lack of good, speedy small forwards? I'm no expert in this area so I was wondering if you knew of any small forwards around the country (state leagues or national draft) that we may be able to target that can provide us with the kind of spark Saad and Milera have introduced this year to St Kilda since being picked up with late or rookie picks
  19. I think Jack Martin is definitely worth going after. He has pace, skill and class, something our midfield has been missing for a long time. Pick 3 - Jimmy Toumpas - Classy, skillful midfielder Pick 4 - Jack Martin - As above Pick 13 - Jake Stringer (recent form since injury indicates he may slide) - Who wouldn't want a Matthew Pavlich type player? - Ben Kennedy if Stringer is unavailable - SPEED! Pick 25 - Jack Viney - Enough said Others Jamie Bennell & 3rd round pick to West Coast (may be looking for a more agile small forward/defender) for Koby Stevens Late or rookie pick - Dean Galea (Port Melbourne) - Big bodied player that may be able to fill the hole at full forward if Mitch goes down again, a bit like what Pods has done for Geelong while Hawkins continues to develop, and best of all - he kicks bags!
