  1. Thanks so there are disposal questions on two number 3 draft picks.... why am I astounded
  2. remind me .... he was 2 or 3 in the draft so I hope he can kick!
  3. almost going to script. will japan do an adelaide and lose to saudi arabia? Like MFC the socceroos look gone on percentage after a less than convincing win over Thailand
  4. Slightly hijacking this thread but internet issues overseas make it hard to start another. I cannot help but think that the Socceroos against Thailand is the same as us V Collingwood. Permutations are so similar. The article below even has that wonderful comment we have heard so many times: If we can't beat Thailand we don't deserve to be in the World Cup https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/sep/04/milovan-rajevac-led-thailand-a-chance-to-break-socceroo-hearts-again For the round ball afficianados who are the socceroo's "Watts and Tyson". Is Cahill their pedo?
  5. Interesting article with a slightly different take on the reasons for success of the Melbourne Storm. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-09-01/hinds:-the-secret-to-melbourne-storms-consistent-success/8860566 The references to pre-season is particularly interesting Makes one wonder how it could be applied to AFL. Perhaps a pre pre season for MFC hopefuls
  6. looks like we may have lost it in the first quarter.............as they say....like father like son
  7. Very interesting and damning analysis BB. Raises so many questions including why our coaches have not developed a strategy to address this shortcoming.
  8. Why the hate for Richmond? They have certainly done the hard yards and as a long term tenant of the MCG their supporter base far outweighs ours. They have three stand out players that contribute most if not all weeks. When their finals hopes were on the line they performed including a thrashing of Freo in Perth. Hell... I'm jealous... hope GWS win the big one PS Good article in the Guardian and as usual the comments make great reading: https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2017/sep/01/shades-of-lebron-but-dustin-martins-tv-announcement-not-ideal-for-richmond
  9. this has been a low light of our play for years. I can only justify it by thinking that the disposing player is at least avoiding the possibility of being called for holding the ball. The ring around the rosie handball works sometimes but more usually it leads to a ball up or a possible turnover. Similarly in the modern game the 50/50 kick to space is seen as too risky. Would love to see the stats on how many times we use handball to effectively free a player. I think I have seen more effective tap ons by players than handballs in recent times. Overall a wasted season with minimal optimism for next year... due mainly to our last half season performance even when we had the bulk of our best 22 on the park. Hopefully they prove me wrong.
  10. Somehow this game has lost its lustre. Not sure why. Hopefully some players can show their wares in time for next pre-season but honestly if you were a casey AFL player 2017 was your year to break into the big time. That none of them did is disappointing. Good luck and at least playing on a cold day at Willy is great practice for Hobart!!
  11. almost prophetic this post. Most if not all of us underestimated Richmond
  12. On the assumption that Garland retires a resounding yes for the appropriate veteran. Damning that we still don't have our own but c'est la vie PS A one plus one contract preferably... 2 if we have to..... the 3 years to Lewis was probably one year too long
  13. The present game plan is not going to deliver 16 wins simply because while it makes the team competitive against better teams it allows lower teams to stay in the game. When every game is around a 50/50 chance the upsets increase.
  14. I think you have hit the proverbial nail on the head. Too easy to say it was injuries because as you say it was almost all of them. Could not agree more about Gawn but perhaps last season was the anomaly as you say. I hope not.
  15. One thing we can do as supporters is to encourage the club to drop the NT games. Other than short term money they have no positives and the negatives have been long discussed. Perhaps we could have a reserve a seat day... twice a year at $10 per seat and the money problem is reduced. Never underestimate supporter power when it comes to developing a culture of success ...... somehow the supporter base needs to make it clear that it is now demanding success
  16. Viney = good/ very good player but doubtful X factor Hunt .... would like to think so but at present he only has the speed factor Oliver and CP5 are the obvious candidates ...perhaps... let's hope so... Oliver needs to develop a kicking game PS.. On thinking some more perhaps Hogan but not necessarily as a FF but more a CHF/ Dustin Martin type player
  17. Going into this season I hoped the "Gawn factor" would give us the edge that would make us a contender. It didn't happen. Not really confident that any of our present players have the X factor to take us all the way. Hope I'm wrong. Not sold on the game plan (lacks forward structure perhaps) but that is for another thread.
  18. But is this true? If so you would expect our effective clearance rate to be top notch but it's average at best. Please don't think I'm knocking him but he has a way to go
  19. Take a deep breath and think on this statement. We are a high percentage handball team many of which are in the nature of old fashioned circle work. Many people have said that Oliver needs to increase his kicking percentage. Lot of upside for Oliver but a good reality check for those who think he is an automatic elite.
  20. Subject to Rule 20(c) below, a Player who has played in an AFL Home and Away Match after 1 July in the relevant season will be ineligible to play in VFL Senior Grade or Development League Finals Series Matches unless that Player has played in a combined total of at least six (6) Senior Grade or Development League Home and Away Matches in the same season. Hard to think of many who played v Collingwood meeting this criteria... it was our best 22 (he sobs).
  21. well I think a few howitzers were trained at those last few turns in the path. I think the lesson for next year is buy your own bulldozer and build your own path. What an emotional waste ... will be interested in the season critiques on various players. Perhaps 5 or 6 of them had an overall positive year. Very little at Casey to get excited about either.
  22. Off to church now Perhaps it is an omen given Adelaide is the city of churches !! Go Dees PS I suppose that should be.... Go Crows
  23. The live online betting odds always fascinates me....Crows are now at $4.40 with Eagles at ( not sure because betting was suddenly suspended) ??? Just came back and Crows at $3.50 Someone must have put a lot of money on the Crows
  24. In Salzburg at present............not sure what today's theme song should be: Oscillating between Climb every Mountain and Mozart's Requiem.
