  1. Has Tom been training " back " all the time?

I've been away but know he didn't really test his abilities to turn/ manoeuvre prior to the horrible Finals game last season.

Running straight out the the backline would seem  be a a sensible option.

Back to the future for Tom .He was good down there..a swap with Petty

No that would be our next pick Tholstrup. Windsor will help with speed of ball movement, connection and most importantly efficiency between our mids and forwards which has been an issue for years and is a big reason why we have gone out in straight sets in final’s two years on a row. Can also score a goal himself. Also provides a lot of chase down tackles which would indicate a competitive nature. Our team is all inside and not much outside., let alone guys that can hit a target by foot.Glad we have addressed this personally getting in Billings and now Windsor. Welcome to the club Caleb.

Let's see that next pick then

    I admire you optimism btw

Doesnt matter whether anyone can launch a case in favour of Maynard or not.

Imagine if May or even Joel Smith crashed into Daicos knocking him unconcious in exactly the same action as Maynard. The TV and radio commentators would be going nuts and demanding it go straight to the tribunal. The media would be screaming for blood right up to Tuesday night .

Bang!  4- 6 weeks.  Season over. We wouldnt appeal.

AFL made no serious attempt to suspend Maynard and no appeal.

Afl is a rabble propped up by corporate media. Loath them.

A large deal of assumptions in that which  reveal more about your opinions than anything else factual

Still it's probably  pretty close to the truth.

I think Maysie would've get off on appeal and assumed that Maynard would also.

The AFL is a cowardly disgrace for not completing the process

    They lost.

    They are losers.

    Like the Dee's eh?

Mind you they've won a lot more since 1964

You're just a try hard pal, according that nonsense response the only AFL  winners are the Collingwood Football Club.

It's a bit of a cliche for our club. We were very unlucky with everyone of our fwds having injuries. A lot of them affecting their seasons. Milk was desperate replacement who surprisingly showed great form. Losing him was a big deal.

Yes   but culture / attitude finds a way to deal with challenges/ luck.

The All Black team culture got them to a bees whisker of the Springboks in the World Cup playing one short for half the game.

They blew a few chances, they  got some bad referee calls, but luck ( or Maynard)has not been mentioned.

And none of the coaches or staff are blathering on about culture....because its there for all to see.

Some might say there is a learning there

    Good summary to read.

Does the weakest premier equate to a team that are the masters in winning the close ones?

Since round 1 2022, they're 13-3 in games decided by 6 points or less, while we're 5-4 in the same period. That close winning habit paid massive dividends for them this September.

Until they lose that ability, they'll likely win next year's flag too, unless their group of 30+ year olds fall off the cliff.

They also have blokes like Sidebottom, De Goey and Crisp that nail 55 metre goals from the set shot and on the run in high pressure moments, while our leaders such as Trac and Gawn spray them all over the place.

I don't buy into the notion that we're better than Collingwood until we start beating them on a consistent basis.

Sidebottom "in"  ...Dees probably win the flag.

    Players like him are gold,

Bit harsh. He's part of a 24/7 sports station, with an emphasis on AFL (thankfully). It was simply an opinion piece showing rare respect for our beloved Jack. I'd listen and read Dwayne's stuff any day if Corn 🌽  is the alternative.

" Corn" is paid to be contentious..he does it very very well and sometimes is both amusing and self depreciating and even  occasionally on the money.

Dwanye has no insight, nor virtues as a commentator or and analyst.

    Only BT is worse

Sailing?  Olympics maybe and when Bondy ruled (albeit with his own unique style)

Melksham this year only and I've given the reasoning on the others.  We might have banked on either Brown or T-Mac being ok at the pointy end

Fact is that we went into the SF against Carlton with a C- forward line

    Harsh but we were threadbare

Reminded me of the horror years of '07 - '15 (forward line)

So what do we do from here?  What if we're injury free as in 2021? Do we recruit a big forward?  Another small forward?  Another Melksham type?

Sailing ? Yes it's irrelevant on this site of course but the SailGP foiling catamaran circuit with the million dollar prize money for the elite yachting sailors of the world has been won every season since its inception by the Aussies ( a 3peat) and they are currently leading in season 4, no matter how hard the organisation tries to trip them up.

We complain about AFL manipulation and selective  discrimination.

You should see Larry " Oracle" Ellison and Sir Russell Coutts at play in pro sailing !

Australian ring ins on most every other opposing teams to keep the standards  up and to try and beat Slingsby and his crew, while conveniently "forgetting" various in race rules

Who has heard of Tom Slingsby or Nathan Outeridge, let alone Glenn Ashby  or Jimmy Spithill.?

But everyone knows about women soccer players who come 4th!

There is a woman sailor on every one of the yachts!

Back to the footy forward line..

Yet another smallish forward shipped in from South Australia?

The Dee's probably should have listed Daisy Pearce.

Anyway he'll l probably be as  good as Melksham but the Dee's need mobile big bodies with disposal skills and a repeat  appetite for contested collisions

    ( imo)

Steven May? Michael Hibberd? Ed Langdon? Jake Lever?

    Seriously?

They were all good at the time

    May was Captain

    Lever a gun.

How is the latest unfulfilled high draft pick going in his new environment ?

    Give me a break please.

Actually that he's not a big body is the problem I see

So, you know that Petty won’t be playing before KB?  Careful riding horses: crystal balls are very fragile.

Edit: PS perhaps you will turn out to be right.

I did actually reference my acknowledgement of Tim Lambs suggestion  to the contrary .

If I could be bothered mounting any further defence I would suggest it was to counterbalance the repeated assertions in discussions here about Petty and Melksham being automatic "ins " for the forward half, with no timeline included.

PS here's hoping  they are and thst it works

pps  Mihocek and Sidebottom would fit in nicely as well.

As a forward, he's well ahead of ANB, Sparrow, Spargo, Chandler, and Smith.

Mcadam has X factor that our forward line needs.

Neither Petty ( despite what Tim Lamb said) or Melksham are likely  to be playing before the King's Birthday which means McAdams " depth" may be useful.

Of course BBB and TMac may be cherry ripe and training the house diwn

he’ll get more free kicks than fritsch gets goals goals probably

A fit Ben Brown is still a huge asset.

Assuming they kick it to him on a lead of course.

More chance of his knee being ok than that on past evidence

  15. 25 minutes ago, Macca said:

Petty, Melksham, Fritsch, JVR, T-Mac & Brown were all unavailable when we needed them (injuries mainly)

Even if only half of them were fit & firing in the finals it would have made a huge difference (Fritsch was proppy on his return)

And we couldn't play Petracca forward as much as we would have liked because Brayshaw was taken out

You can't lose that many forwards and expect to win the flag ... so we did extremely well to get as far as we did

2022 we had no such reasons.  And in 2019 we fell away far too much

Yep I left JVR out..my mistake

Another year in the system should be a bonus there, especially if he plays according to his actual size

Let's see about Melksham though; unlike many on here I have always been  fan, but an injury and one more year....?

Your rational optimism is impressive and difficult to contest, but I think there is some  airbrushing  at play.

Through the season there was realistically no TMac or BBB  and I think the best two teams over the season  played off for the flag .

2024 is going to be red hot for the 8 and game plans and canny coaching will count as much as injuries ( within reason)

Meanwhile Aussies are dominating world sailing..not that anyone seems to notice.Cornes hasn't said a word

Look elsewhere as the coach isn't the issue ... injuries to our forwards cruelled us plus we need to sharpen up our goal kicking.  Practice under pressure a good remedy

But how do you win a flag with a makeshift forward line?  Rated no higher than C-?

If all our forwards were fit & firing we're a B+ up forward

And if it's any consolation the new clause in coach's contracts means that a coach can be let go with only 6 month severance money owed (regardless of the length of time of contract)

    Related to KPI's

That clause came in during covid and has stayed

Same as the slashing of the small cap (coaching dept. overall) has stayed on post covid

I am not clear who these" fit and firing forwards" are.

I was a fan of Tom and BBB but their ship has sailed.

I hope Petty can do better than most re Lisfranc injuries.

I am confident than Fitta will be ok and that Kossi will kick 35 over the season.

    Gawn will learn to kick?

    McAdam?

Trac up forward..yeah as long as Oliver and Angus are good.

Your spot on about kicking under  pressure.

Surely they've had some practise at that already  though?
