Gee you guys just don't get it, Yes NOTHING like a real war, but a war waged on a footy field, war like footy conditions, tough, brutal, if ya dont get what I'm trying to say then forget it.

People should be cautioned for using that analogy, just as the AFL should be cautioned for appropriating Anzac Day

    Psychologically we are.

They're a big club with a huge supporter base that can overwhelm any team going around. Look at the way they drowned the boos out everytime Maynard touched the footy.

We don't have the mongrel or killer instinct in our team. We're a mentally soft football club on field and have been for a number of year. When you have guys like May and Oliver who are happy to smile and shake hands with the opposition then it just resonates the soft underbelly tag we've carried for so long.

I don't know about Oliver but May plays the game hard and perhaps realises it's a sporting contest that finishes with the siren

Couldnt be asking for more form him.  Very dependable and deserves some praise.  Team has never been the same since he did his foot in 2022

Hopefully the " coach" will leave him back where he's at his best in his sunset season(s).

Tom is one injury away from the end, and it must be demoralising to be finishing up in a rubbish team like the one he spent so much time in early on.

He's been admirable so far this season

ANB is the most disciplined and unselfish player in probably the entire competition. He is the only player on our list capable of executing a heavy tag to absolute perfection.

I would play Viney more as a half forward when Nibbler is in the middle, to counterbalance that defensive minded attack that we miss when ANB isn’t there.

Nice ,until you claim he's the best in the entire competition ..supporting your team doesn't require extreme hyperbole.

No  I don't know enough of all the other teams to say who is " better" ,but I did say his value to the team just that.

    He's underrated for sure

Why wouldn't we turn Sparrow into a tagger? Seems the ideal body type and is ready fitness wise to do just that. Instead we are sacrificing an incredibly important player to our structure like ANB on Daicos.

Daicos would have just run off Sparrow.

ANB ' s value is his commitment to any role he's given

Some teams have more than one of those allowing coaching choices

  6. 13 pages of opinion on here, mostly predictable, occasionally realistic.

It still amazes me though, to still read that we had a moral victory over Carlton last year and that Maynard was the reason we lost to the Pies as if that is correct   or even relevant .

Maysies statement last year was ill considered, but he is one reason that the dam of clueless unskilled mediocrity hadn't hasnt broken for the last two seasons and they havnt been beaten by a VFL team before Monday.

The Pies showed how a good team culture can respond to genuine insults .

Personally I feel sorry for Max  TMac  May  Nibbler and especially Todd's boy, Jack.

Lever would have been useful on Monday,  but probably not enough to change the result

The rest are over rated in various ways

He really is struggling this year. Jack Viney's been okay but he was in much better form last year. Combine Sparrow who rarely shines and you can see a once most touted midfield no longer killing it. And then throw in the catch of having to move Tracca into the fwd line and it certainly explains why the docker's slaughtered is in the clearances. The bang, bang, bang is sadly no more.

It doesn't really matter ,the Cats and Swans ( with the best tap  ruckman in the league on fire) are playing in a different universe to Goodwins chaos( rabble)

It's up to newer lists with fresh coaching to challenge them

Still it's sweet to rewatch the Covid flag from time to time.

I just turn it off before Gus and Gawn start talking about dynasties

ps Jack was the only one who took it up to Maynard

I am expecting a 40 pt loss to the Dees. The woods may have injury carnage however we don't have any forwards , our midfield is shot and defence is fair.  I expect the dogs, lions and hawks to jump us on the ladder with the next 3 weeks.

Goody and co. must go. We need to trade Petty , Clarry , Chandler , Tommo and much more.

That's as  mad as the " we wuz robbed by the Umps ,AFL and Chris Scott" posts..

Very excited by the prospect of Milkshake returning soon. Done an incredible job to get back ahead of schedule, can see the steely determinationin in his eyes. Could do with the extra determination and tenacity on the field right now.

    Fingers crossed

Melksham did actually show a solid 10 or so week block of good form last year that gives us some reason for confidence in his ability when fit. Whether his body is up to it or not remains to be seen though.

Yeah I have never doubted his value.I was referring to the regular  calls for his delisting until the same folk suddenly decided he was valuable.

Petty seems to be getting a version  (reversed) of the same nonsense

Play Melk up forward and Petty down back  and stfu is my theory.

TMac stays back until its over.

    … and of course, Gus.

Melk was mooted to return “after the bye” which is round 15.  Reports have said that he was in full training over the last several weeks. After such a layoff surely he will need at least one game at VFL.  Unfortunately Casey has, of course,  a bye weekend 15 June so he can’t get a warm up there.

This time last season the majority call was for him to be desisted.

Now he's a saviour ,like Petty!!

Agree with you except I have faith for 1 last time in Max and Jack dragging the team along effort-wise. They can only do it so often.

The real issue is the back line that has saved the mids and forwards for the last 3 seasons has finally cracked.

Geez they've been good but it had to end eventually

This is the post you’re referring to.

    Yes thankyou.

It's almost libellous ( as we are so often warned)

I am just going with embarrassing, though I can't imagine what would happen if it was said on here about say,  Viney and Goodwin.

I could have better observed that the idea of Melksham arising from the ashes as the saviour resembles Petty going forward for a few weeks and resolving long term forward issues.

As it happens I' m a fan of both and would find a spot for Maynard if he was available!!!!!

    What are you talking about?
I saw Maynard take out Angus with the Full Shoulder and Execute.

Whether the Coach gave instructions or not is irrelevant

Correct me by showing me your original post.

I replied on the basis that you stated McCrae told Maynard to do it.

As I said..regardless of AFL mischief he should have been suspended and ,at the time  ,that he probably wouldn't be.

I am happy to apologise if you show your post.

I do think it's old news though in any case

I am only talking about what i saw on the Ground

So you saw McCrae give him instructions ? You can read lips from the coaches box?

Ridiculous pathetic and juvenile, but yes clearly the on ground incident was reportable and he should have been suspended

I don’t think it was rubbish at all.
Angus Brayshaw was lined up and taken out, the ball had left the area. The only thing Maynard had eyes for, was the Player, the move was executed to perfection as far the Filth were concerned….

I think that's contestable but the Mcrae bit is either stupidity or slanderous

Do other posters feel like the wheels have completely fallen off?

I mean to be beaten is one thing but by almost 100 points is just humiliation.

It's right off the back of being thumped by a lowly eagles team a fortnight ago.

So it's not an aberration.  I'm not sure what such a thumping does to a team's confidence but I guess we will find out against the pies.

The lack of fight back in the second half was not the way we have played in the last four years.

We gave up at halftime and it was Mfc of old unfortunately.

Maybe we will scrape into the final eight but it looks like dark years ahead. Again. We will probably be like the Western dogs for a while and hover around eight to tenth spot or a couple of years and then who knows.

It's hard to be positive after a belting like that in this day and age

Id suggest a change of coach at the end of the year. Not because Goody has failed. He hasn't, he got us a flag. But it's time for some new blood in the role and time to build our list up again.

Max is getting on in years and we need to find another ruckman. Asap. JV is looking slow and tired. Sparrow is not really a midfielder.  Bbb is past it. We can't have players moved on from other clubs like Schache, Hunter, Billings, Fullerton and McAdam taking up spots.

It's time to prune at the end of this busted season and start a fresh.

    Tough on Viney

    Kind to the Footy Dept

[censored] that, I've had enough of that - if that's where it's going then my interest will wane significantly (it already has to be honest)

Some of my best memories after the 21 finals and the Norm Smith years were the Neeld era when I would go to the G on Fridsy night and watch good teams compete without having to suffer angst if my favoured option lost.

    Skills on display

Jefferson has got to come in, Petty must go out or go back to the backline, he’s hopeless forward. I cannot understand why TMac wasn’t sent forward and Petty back, Tom is way better up forward.
anyway Goodwin has wasted what is easily the best list we’ve had in my lifetime, and I doubt if I’ll see a premiership again, never really saw it except on TV. At least we won one I suppose but jeez I wish we had have got Yze before he left, he’s twice the coach Goodwin is!!

TMac forward is the dumbest move ever, hopefully that's supporter stupid not FD hopeless

Petty back makes sense though ,  he was good there over a period of time as opposed to a couple of weeks forward

Maybe it has to be in the twos though

It's a pity that by the time Goodwins retrenched ( after a KB loss?) There  won't be any obvious alternatives with excellence who will want to coach on Goschs Paddock.

Got the best ruckman in the comp

    2 all australian midfielders

    A contested beast in viney

Yet we continuously get destroyed in contested possessions and clearances

    Why?

Is it set up? Or are they just not very good ? Or is it effort ?

Max is not the best tap ruckman in the comp.

He makes the other ruck ineffective though so  it becomes mostly a battle between the mids.
