  1. I can see lots of fun on the horizon as the trade period starts in earnest next week.

Yes. All this discussion already and nothing achieved! Can't wait until next week!

If pick 33 is enough for Harry, we win as i'm pretty sure we were floating our 2nd round pick for him when first discussed. It will be good to still have that up our sleeves seeing a similar pick landed us Vince last year.

I'm just praying we play the Cats at the G this year.

But maggotwood may have thought that would have been around low 20's

  2. Welcome DaleDee. The only other thorn it that story is the notion being bandied around that he had this offer from Hawthorn in January and that was the reason he put off talks with MFC. Because of this MFC were not entertaining a big contract and prepared for life without.

    Anyhow, nice introductory post!

  3. Surely sarcasm?

Griffen is still an awesome player and I'd definitely entertain a trade for 3 involving him and something else back.

No sarcasm there. An absolute waste giving away a top pick for a player that will only last another couple of years. Add to that, if its not Libba or Bont, NO DEAL!

  4. Ok, you're Roos and you don't have a functioning midfield - what is more value to you;

    1. A CHB, pushed/pulled out of the backline on around 6% of the salary cap?

    OR

    2. Pick 3 in the ND that can be used to acquire a ready made midfielder or a midfielder of the future?

I think there is grey here - Dunn was a free agent but very wanted by the club, he stayed.

I really question how highly Frawley was rated by Roos and co.

It wasn't how he was rated, it was "Can we do without him?" And that is what 2014 was about. Shift him forward and see how the backline copes. Frawley was great one on one but disposal was and still is poor!

In an open market Petracca is not worth pick one but that's what he will go for. Against the other draft hopefuls Frawley's value is well and truly a pick one, he's a proven player and with Clark probably the most valuable player traded this year unless Dangerfield really does come into the mix.

Of course he is! Will be a gun!

I have no doubt Frawley will return to AA form at the Hawks and be one of the best defenders in the comp for the next 5 years. Look at the shambles of a club he has played at for the last 3 seasons and the lack of care/will he had in 2012. This year he played mostly up forward.

As above, still a very poor disposer of the pill and that hurts!

  5. Slob Hutchison just said on Footy Classified that it's the club's fault for front end loading Frawley's last contract.

Surely slob realizes that restricted and unrestricted free agency is basically the same, because it's highly unlikely that a club will force a player into a contract to play in a team that they have just attempted to leave.

The sooner the AFL does away with that particular facade the better.

And that is where the AFL should have stepped in and said "Right, you guys have given Frawley a 5 year deal worth 400K plus a year so therefore whether you pay more of that in the first couple of years doesn't matter. It should be based on the average.

  6. We will be getting pick 3 as compensation 100% One of the reasons we were denied draft assistance is due to the fact the AFL knew we were getting compensation for Frawley after our pick 2.

    We have nothing to worry.

To quote Alred E Neuman - What, Me Worry?

How to fix free agency. Top 4 teams can't take free agents (DFA excluded).

Bottom 4 teams don't have their compensation diluted if they lose a free agent then bring in another.

There must be incentive to improve.

    Its called restriction of trade!

  7. don't know if it is true, but it was reported that freo made a much bigger offer to frawley which would have equated to band 1

even melbourne it seems offered more than what we think the dorks offered

yet it seems none of this is taken into consideration

They did. But unfortunately that is not where he is going. The system is the system and by the looks of it we lose out. I think we are used to it. However, on a brighter note i believe Danger is to make a decision by the end of the weekend.

  8. it not the contract amt that determines compo

    it's amount + #years + player age

don't forget frawley is young and will draw a longish contract

Exactly. Unfortunately for us at this stage "Chip" has not done us a favour. A 4 year deal at the Hawks for around $450K per year won't get us a band 1 compo. More likely band 2 or 3. However the AFL after knocking back our compo pick and wanting to see us not lose out on the MC situation may give us the pick 3 under a "special" circumstrance. Won't hold my breath on that one!

  9. Ok I need someone with solid positive news to post here.

We have met with Danger. The meeting was positive. Mahoney has come out in the media referring to what we would trade based on those conversations. We are waiting for Danger to say those magic words ' I want to play with the MFC'

I know the player sponsor for Toumpas. He hasn't mentioned anything of this supposed homesickness.

He thinks Toumpas is an extremely confident young man who will back himself to come good.

Obviously not sharing that info with his sponsor. Nor would I!

  10. Glad he played such a large percent of his year away from the back line. I get his decision, but I have a hard time not thinking he is a [censored]...

But that was all part of the club preparing for life without Frawley. Did we need him in the backline this year, not really.

  11. Cant argue with the quality of some of the shiraz from around Heathcote Clint. Trouble is, it's bloody expensive and, at the rate I swill the stuff, I'd have to start selling off the "lads".

BTW mere parapraxis with your name.

Forgiven. I have been called another derivitive of it quite a few times though!

Me neither. Got given some as a gift. Only realised how much they cost after we drank! Bit exy for a weeknight!

  13. Ugh, the more I think about it, the more I'd be horrified if we picked up Varcoe for Clark.

Seriously, brings nothing. How many players play every game for a season, as a midfielder/forward, but still cost barely $250k in supercoach?

Would be behind multiple young guys, from day 1. Not worth the spot on the list.

Picking up Varcoe would actually be worse than getting nothing.

If Roos wants him I will trust in his judgement.
