You probably need to watch a bit closer then. First tackles are soft and second efforts are non existent.

I did watch closely and your comments have gone from reasonable to silly. He was serviceable & nowhere near our worse ' I'm playing him next week.

In no way was that the same and you know it. Fritsch knew what he was throwing his elbow at. Hawkins was flailing about due to a jumper tackle by May.

But scream at the sky if you want, IDGAF.

You are clueless. Ump was right on the spot.  Didn't report him or pay 50m penalty. And he played the game out.

    This is beautiful

Yes there should be a Demonland Hall of Shame to honour those who have made the demonstrably ridiculous statements or predictions.  Maybe we could vote 3, 2, 1 entry.

  4. I'm putting this up because I thought Baker was allright today. Helped out in defence and attack yet lots of posters are calling for him to be dropped. He was better than a number of senior players.

Has been in good form at Casey & should be rewarded with some consecutive games.

You'd suspect Sparrow would have come in for Viney if his injury was known Thursday. The most like for like IMO.

So out Baker, in Sparrow. Toughness is a must given the swans mids.

Out Tomlinson, in Petty. It's his time.

TMac was only one wayward kick away out of defence today for the sentiment to be entirely different haha.

Am I the only one that thought Baker was ok today.  I'd give him a block of 3 or 4 games.

On that note, thinks it’s time to spin up a ‘bring back Mahoney” thread

You could just say "sorry, my mistake I got it wrong Pickett is a gun".

And why do you pretend that the Kelly trade was for Tyson without mentioning Salem.

Both trades are big wins for us.

With Hogan starring for GWS today I was reminded of the long list of Fremantle Docker trade F Ups they've had over the years. They missed out or traded away players like Macleod and Hodge and they recently traded out Langdon to us, who looks like he'll make AA this year. Anyway, check out my Hogan/Neale/May graphic.216437955_ScreenShot2021-05-01at7_23_51pm.png.bd33248f9ac052f59fd38924c26b3d05.png

Yes Freo have been absolute shockers & probably cost themselves a flag. Their misses included Matty Lloyd, Scott Lucas, Jeff Farmer, Andrew Mcleod, Peter Bell. They also stuffed up with Croad, Sylvia, Bennell & Hogan.

Take it or leave it, I really don't care. I've got plenty of evidence but I don't intend to share it.

Those that know me here will most likely accept my version. I'm happy for you to have a different view.

Well it can join the long list of MFC rewritten history along with the departures of Alves & Jolly and the Henry Coles & Shane Zantuck altercations.

Kind of agree with this. Been seven years on the list and was great in late 2018 but nothing much else. It's a nice story growing up a Melbourne supporter but it beggars belief why he was given a five-year deal.

Yes the 5 year deal for an average player who had 1 really good year was crazy.  Collingwood showed what happens when you overpay players.

Was it worth a punt? Many on here questioned the fact we picked up another inside mid when clearly we needed some outside run.

It did not surprise me one bit that he was barely given a go then delisted.

Agree - we badly needed some more run last year.  Given the lockdown it was a very difficult year for marginal players trying to show their wares.  Sadly for Dunkley it was also a bad year to get injured.

Unlike Kyle Dunkley who we selected last mid season draft at Pick 3 and this year we'll be looking at somewhere around Pick 15?

Players are available in the mid season draft for a reason. Now granted this year could be a little different due to the lack of football for the Vic U18's last year, but traditionally stars in the mid season draft, one will not find.

We're better off using it to plug any holes we might have as opposed to trying to find some diamond in the rough. For me our hole is mid sized defenders/forwards. Just my opinion anyway. Whichever way the FD go, I'll back them in.

Completely different scenario. Dunkley was 18 or 19 and was worth a punt - it didn't work out.  I've watched Mitch White in maybe 20 games at Casey & he is a good honest VFL standard battler.

With Joel Smith & Marty Hore both out with long term injuries as well as no obvious replacement for Bailey Fritsch available last week, our lack of depth at the moment seems to be in mid sized players. Those 186-190cm types who can are good in the air, but also good at ground level and are ideal 3rd tall options.

Ideally we need someone who can play either end and can slot into our system seamlessly, whichis why I would nominate Mitch White at Casey.

He's only 25, spent three years on our list previously, can play at either end and is about 188cm tall. Given he captain's Casey, we should be able to delist him at seasons end without issue also. My thoughts anyway.

Ridiculous suggestion.  He is a good ordinary VFL player but a fair way off AFL standard. If Josh Wagner was B Grade then Mitch is C+.

For a vast majority of Goodwin's playing days his senior coach was Mark Williams.

I always find it interesting to trace the coaches back to who their main coaches were during playing days.

It may be that by getting Williams in at this stage has allowed Goodwin to re-set and clarify his direction.

Interesting.  So at which Club exactly did Williams coach Goodwin ?

Just a small auto I'm afraid

Slow travel mainly in Asia is my norm. Museums, history and good inexpensive food are my usual pursuits. Perhaps an art gallery (not commercial) with indigenous art. Interested in getting a feel of the town if that makes sense.

The airbnb is advertised as desert like so that should be pleasant with a nice red under the stars.

    Many thanks RGS

PS How are the flies at this time of year? Have heard they can be bad at some spots

Pack a warm sleeping bag, one man tent & air mattress & camp at Uluru - its cheap & great atmosphere.

Alice is easy to walk around & u will find plenty of art galleries.

Not many flies at that time of year.

I can't help but feel like if we were a proper organised football club in the late 00's/early 10's we would've had Joel Smith in a father son academy and developed his skills and body better. A touch of luck and better development at an early age and he might've been anything. Still time for him to get right and show something this year, I maintain he's too good for VFL level, but it just doesn't seem to be in his favour.

Also a shame to see Bill Laurie out for an extended period. I guess he gets a chance to build his body and keep his legs moving once everything settles down. I thought he could debut and even be a sneaky sub option this year, but like the rest of the guys who missed all of last year he needs some footy under his belt.

This is speculative nonsense  - what is a father/son academy anyway and who has one ???

Pretty sure Joel  chased a basketball career early on and wasn't interested in football.

And who is Bill Laurie anyway ?

Our last 4 drafts - starting to look very good (as anyone's will after winning 6 straight).  Other than due to injury, very few wasted picks (Dunkley is no longer with us and I feel Baker's chance might have passed him).

I've watched Baker closely the last 2 games & have been impressed. Reckon he is ready to go.  In any other year he would b in the firsts.

No he hasn’t. He said he isn’t getting dropped and isn’t going to the backline.

Yes he has - go and listen to them again - its hard to hear the reporters' questions. In fact in one presser he replies that he will not go into the backline ever and in another he says he will not go to the wing.

Yes we do. Brown is our FF.

If TMac can’t fit into that then that is a problem. He trained in the summer for a wing and while his kicking would be heart in mouth stuff when he runs defensively he will be up there with Langdon with kms covered and would be a dangerous threat running forward and taking grabs overlapping with the forwards.

And lastly, injuries will impact ‘synergy’ we should experiment within reason to make sure we are prepared for the inevitable forced changes that will have to come if we are to play 26 weeks this season.

Goodwin has made it clear at his pressers that Tom M is playing great footy up forward & is NOT going to a wing.
