Say if we lose all the talk in the media will be about those pathetic and spineless Demons.Their not relevant in the modern footy world blaa blaa blaa.If we win they will be saying it's only Port Adelaide etc.Likewise if we beat Essendon the next week it will be Essendon were complacent,Essendon took their eye of the ball and so on.The critics and haters of our club will always be in the background sniping away.So long as we achieve our goals and have a decent year then i honestly couldn't care less about what they say.

Curb Your Enthusiasm is the greatest comedy series that i have ever seen.I just love the way Larry David ignores all the social norms!The interaction and interplay with the characters around him like Jeff and Richard Lewis who would be his closest friends is brilliant.I also like how Larry is more suspicious and wary of Marty Funkhouser and Ted Danson who would be more acquaintances than friends.Those two would be bordering on being enemies of Larry though as opposed to being friends! It's a better comedy than Seinfeld imo.

I think this sunday is going to herald the beginning of a new era for the Melbourne Football Club.Hopefully the hangover from the 186 which lasted for all of last year has been flushed out of the system.I hope we just unsettle Port Adelaide at the first bounce by just upping the aggression and intensity (controlled aggression and intensity) and getting in their faces.We would send out a real statement of intent to the footy world that we mean business this year if we clinically dismantle them.

I think the Doggies will surprise the Brisbane Bears and i hope Richmond beat Carlton.The Kangas will be competitive against the Collywobbles at the very least,our boys will destroy Port Adelaide,the Aints will beat the Suns and Hawthorn will [censored] the course against Geelong yet again. Sidenote Wasn't the look on Clarkos face priceless when Tommy Hawkins scored that winner at the final siren last year!

Ha post of the thread!What is it with the Eagles that's so annoying?Is it the theme song?Is it the flying high since 1987 signs?Is it that they have no heritage and tradition?I suppose it's a combination of all three factors that when added together result in a very unpleasant combination.Their like some sort of Frankenstein club.I don't mind the Dockers though to be honest.

Is it that whole shinboner spirit thing that they keep blabbering on about?

I think our boys are primed for next sunday.Port Adelaide won't know what hit them.I just hope the team bring effort,intensity and passion to the table this season.Having those character traits is half the battle.

This is a very sad affair.Liam was such a dynamic and exciting player.Im very sad that we won't be seeing him in the Red and Blue guernsey this year.I wish Liam all the best and i hope we see him back in the AFL sooner rather than later even if it's with another club.

Has anyone mentioned Dermet Brereton and Jason Dunstall yet?I don't know what's with me and Brisbane Bears personalities but im putting Jonathan Brown on the table as well as Nathan Buckley.

I actually don't mind North credit where credits due they earned those 4 flags.The AFL tried to relocate them a few years ago but it didn't work out for them.North just ignore the haters and keep on battling on.I'd say it would sicken some of the suits in the AFL if the Kangas make the finals again this year taking into account the tough draw that was handed to them.

Isn't all that part of being a sports fan?Isn't rivalry a part of sport?We all love our respective teams in any sport and i think it's just natural to have a healthy dislike for other teams.Of course im not saying that we should attack fans of opposition clubs or any of that carry on.I mean hate in a good natured banter sort of way.Like enjoying some banter with your mates at the workplace.There's a lot more things to be worried about in society than people disliking other teams.I don't think the fact that some Melbourne fans dislike Collingwood and vice versa will cause a house of hades scenario that threatens the welfare of society as we know it.

It's hard to decide who to hate more the Brown Baggers or Essendope?I think i'll pick Carlton for poaching Barassi and trying to pressurise the AFL to give them more games at the MCG at our expense.

I suppose we were fairly respectable during the Northey years we should have played in back to back grand finals but we choked in that infamous preliminary final against the Hawks in 1987 and we played into september for 5 years straight.We could have used the Northey era as a foundation stone to revitalise this club as a force to be reckoned with but we blew it due to a wide variety of reasons.

Eddie McGuire and that despicable excuse of a human being Jason Akermanis.I also can't stand Brad Scott and Michael Voss for some reason.

Yes it's been nearly 6 years since we last beat them in the QB clash.I hope we put that statistic right sooner rather than later!

Even though it's nearly 20 years ago now just thinking about how we were inches away from being merged with Hawthorn still sends shivers down my spine.

Although the filth won flags in 1990 and 2010 both Footscray and Collingwood have paid dearly for interrupting our winning run in the 50's.Footscray haven't won a single flag since that day in 1954 and the Collywobbles lost the 1960 1964 1966 1970 1977 1979 1980 1981 2002 2003 and 2011 grand finals.I guess it's true what they say about the Norm Smith curse!

I like the way you described the Eagles.You summed up perfectly what i was trying to say about them.Dermet Brereton and Jason Dunstall would be two more reasons why i hate Hawthorn!

I wouldn't worry you have plenty of ammunition on your side at least we have achieved some substantial success even if it was a long time ago and haven't the Saints recorded more last placed finishes than any other club!

Apologies if this was done before but i would love to hear stories from other Melbourne supporters about how they took a disliking to some of the other clubs!Essendon Hawthorn and Carlton would be my obvious choices.Hawthorn are Hawthorn and Essendon are Essendon enough said!Carlton seem to be a very corrupt organisation.Within the last decade we had the salary cap issue and they tanked to load up on priority draft picks for pretty much all of the Pagan years and nothing was ever done about it!They poached Barassi from us in 64,they tried to poach Footscrays best players when they were in financial trouble in 1989 and they are trying to kick us out of our home ground.Carlton seem to have a history of throwing their weight around and bullying clubs that they see as inferior to them.I wouldn't hate Collingwood to the same extent that i would hate the first three clubs i mentioned.I still dislike them but i would have a respect for the Magpies because they are our traditional rivals going back to the 50's.I would be pretty indifferent towards Geelong St Kilda and Richmond while i would have a soft spot for the Western Bulldogs in particular and North Melbourne because i just like the way both clubs continue to battle against the odds.Apart from the Meth Coast Eagles the insterstate clubs don't really bother me apart from the new darlings of the AFL GWS and the new Sydney franchise.I just see the Eagles as a very plastic and artificial club if that makes sense and that theme song they have is awful!

It's good to hear some fighting talk from the players in the media but the most important place to do the talking is out on that pitch week in and week out.I don't mean to sound negative but talk like were going to do this and were going to do that is cheap.Performing and winning matches now that's the sort of talking i like.

I want us to destroy both Port Adelaide and Essendon.In fact i want us to win every game we play.Winning round 1 is important but we have to build on it as well and besides you can never beat Essendon often enough.Losing to them (nevermind getting flogged by them) is never acceptable!

True we have been rebuilding over the last 5 years but unfortunately Mark Neeld has to start another rebuild and he had to teach the squad a whole new gameplan as well as getting the fitness of the players in order last year.That say's a lot doesn't it about the mess Dean Bailey left behind him.Another season like last year would be unacceptable imo and i expect the team to show a bit more backbone this year.Yeah i agree it is tough watching the Kangas,the Tigers and the Lions race ahead of us but i think all those clubs had squads that were better and stronger than ours.
