  1. Interesting … and not something I had considered. You’re right though, IF that was in any way true, for whatever reason, it would have been front page news and derailed our preparation.
  2. WCW mentioned it in the ā€œ cool light of dayā€ thread
  3. This is def a question...not a statement. But I wonder what peoples feelings are? I think Im really hoping people refute the thought . What am i missing? "Our time may be up" thoughts. 1./ Goody getting sued and all that press must be putting added pressure on him . Can he manage it? Is he getting supported. 2./ Lost 4 finals in a row. Perhaps the players lose confidence, drive or motivation now after 3 years of pushing hard. . The post game bake Goody gave , and the canx of our mad monday, may send them in all kind of directions pyschologically. Can they bounce back...and stay motivated re training this off season? 3./ Loss of a lot of depth. Grundy, JJ, Harmes, Dunstan, ( most likely BB and possibly Tmac) plus Petty may take a long while to be back. So our reserves will be tested this coming year like no other for a while. If we start getting injuries early the wheels could come off. 4./ No back up ruck. With all the obvious issues that presents. If Petty is missing ( and pending trading for a fwd) we may have no big fwd for the start of the year as well. 5./ The media pile on will only get bigger if we start badly in 24. " wasted our chance" " bad management" " terrible decision re Grundy" Tracc cant kick" "Goody no good" etc etc. It could get fierce next year quite quickly. The heat will be high. Damo and Caro will lead the charge...we've all seen that [censored] movie before. 6./ How many years does a club like ours actually get at the top? We're hardly a Geelong advertising both lifestyle and "best in class" facilities are we. 7./ Gawn at the edge re his age and body. If he falls over, our time at the pointy end may be finished. 8./Teams have gone past us or soon will. Adelaide/ Carlton/ GWS/ Port/ Lions/ Pies "Staying up at the top" thoughts 1./ Midfield is dominant and in their prime. Sparrow improving. 2./ Stars all over the field still in the peak of their careers. 3./ 71 k fans and growing. More big crowds next year...team extra motivated. Win some close ones, change the narrative. 4./ Perhaps a home base announcement Q1? Some good news in the press....changes the narrative 5./ Goody a seasoned warrior as player and coach. Case is dismissed and HWSNBN can F off. 6./ Petty just getting started as a fwd, JVR a year on. Fitter and bigger...and angry. 7./ We just cant have the bad luck injury wise nor the bad kicking of 23 ...it just cant happen again..can it? .
  4. Ive been on the receiving end of a coaching spray once or twice. It never worked for me personally...ie it was deflating not motivating for me, But people are different and it is the end of the season , not mid game or mid season and everyone just has to go away and think about that now....which may be a good thing . If there was ever a time for a real spray its post their second straight finals flop ...with ALL 4 of those games imminently winnable. Its almost unbelievable when you think about it. I just think to look around the room and see everyone hurting at the depth they all were and see how affected by it Goody was may be the right medecine. Lets hope so.
  5. Interesting to see how the players respond to this. I dont think this is goodys usual way. Glad to hear Kozzi got nailed a bit...such an undiscplined game. Either they will return motivated and wanting to atone or they will all feel a bit deflated and dispirited. We've got good leaders in there but geez the feeling right now is very flat isn't it.
  6. Yze has been great for us and last year I was fearful of him leaving. This year I feel we almost need the change...and thats not putting any blame on him either. It just feels like we cant just go around again after 2 years of straight set exits. Fresh voices and ideas needed.
  7. Port went out in FAR worse fashion than we did after being super disappointing last year....have you heard Kane blasting them? Im not saying that we didnt disappoint or blow it...Im just saying theres a media pile on at the dees that feels reminiscint of yeasteryear,
  8. Garry loves the dees but he’s also always the first one to put the boot in. Contrast that with Cornes or Buckley or Damo . He speaks from his grumpy self but it would be good if he could be a little protective as well in the times when it’s needed. As in now.
  9. With respect DS nothing in this decision looks like a ā€œ captains callā€
  10. Top 4 for the 3rd year in a row. Im not sure I ever believed I’d see a Dee team do this.
  11. Thanks. I think we’re all feeling a bit desperate for good news.
  12. Underated elements. It takes so much of everything AND luck to win flags...or if not luck then at least not the bad luck we had at the end of the season. Injury cursed year sadly.
  13. Feeling you WCW. Im a bit the same. We've been served a fair bit of heart break at the back end of this season. Petty, Melk and now Gus. Plus a close QF loss and then enduring the Collingwood bully boys. I wonder if the boys feel a bit the same? Either way They still have to run out and meet the blues in a brutal battle..they need our support more now than ever.
  14. This is a genuinely sad day for our game. I hope the AFL get sued.
  15. thanks…it’s really astounding. I’m genuinely disgusted by this. This whole thing is pretty much everything I hate about our game. The hit, the concussion, the feral pie crowd chanting, the journos all joining together to push an outcome, a fake outcome and the bending over by the AFL to please the pies. I know the dees are still very much alive but my interest in this season just dropped by 50%. joy factor missing.
  16. Why? I guarantee you this thread will be nearly double its size before it’s finished.
  17. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say this will 4 weeks reduced to 3. The AFL is many things but it’s not stupid. Anything but a big penalty here and they open themselves up in ways they won’t want.
  18. A good article ruined at the end with this ā€œI’m not suggesting Brayden Maynard should be suspended. I think this is as line-ball as footy incidents get in 2023ā€ I don’t think Maynard intended the concequences of his action… but it’s still indefensible. A dumb and dangerous thing to do as was JVR’s . This just ISNT a line ball situation. In fact if he isn’t suspended for this then ā€œthe lineā€ been dragged back into the dark ages. And it’s invitation to do more of it.
  19. Thanks for this šŸ™šŸ¼ I must admit I also am still coming back from everything that happened. Asking deeper questions. The ā€œRitualised violenceā€ at the G was getting more real than ritualised. I feel like a line was crossed. The hit then the moronic collingwood chant, the collingwood fans in general at the game, the media stupidity…blind to what they’re saying yes to. Someday soon at a sports arena in this country there’s going to be a riot. And if that horrible event should ever happen i’ll be loud about pointing back to the reactions to this incident.
  20. I think he shouldn’t play again this season regardless of how we go. He can see how he recovers and think it all through in the off season. I realise I feel a bit like how I felt when schwartz did his knee for the second time. We were in the flag hunt at that point… but after he went down and did it again that dream was over. Big test for the club in how we respond to all this. we’ve really been dealt a tragic hand this end season. Petty, Melk and Brayshaw all possibly career ending. . I don’t know what’s true w Petty but a bad Lisfranc offers no guarentees of full return. Lots to play out I guess. My MFCSS says the dream is over. Hope to be wrong.
  21. Seems like a whole slew of things combining in this story. First and foremost a serious ko to Brayshaw that may well end the career of one of our clubs champions. This is really a sad thing and Im still furious about it. Second is the outrageous media bias, the disgusting gathering of commentators demeaning themselves at the collingwood alter. As has been mentioned we KNOW this would not be happening if that was kozzi or Viney on Daicos. Third, while we know all about the Collingwood worship from media looking for clicks, there is the added element that as a club we seem so easy to push around. No one in the media seems to really have our back. Garry lyon is old time in that he appears neutral so often. Fourth , the charge at Brayshaw ( let’s just call a frikn spade a spade. i’d call it the same way if it was a dee) took out one of our best and it prob changed the outcome in that QF. Arguable but either way we lost a close final and probably ended our flag hopes. So, we have the added disappointment of a probable wasted season now.. And if gus does retire then our window looks narrower going forward So there’s the worry for Gus , the loss on its own but some cascading disappointments. A big moment for this teams legacy.
  22. I wonder if any of those teams also lost players in the way we have been losing them? . If it was purely a form issue I’d still be confident , but the injuries, suspension etc is just proving too much I think.
