Very impressive interview. Did i read somewhere McLardy was not a Demon supporter? I think i read he was a Carlton supporter and he knew Jimmy from the Reach program/board. Not making any aspirtions he and the board are doing a fantastic job

RDB has recently said publically, that his heart lies with the red and the blue. Its a shame he left and was so successful at 3 other clubs. Otherwise he would have been remembered as a demon only. Just like Teddy Whitten will be remembered as a bulldog and a big V man!!

After some research i saw RDB was in the AFL team of the century. He must of been good and i will take my dad to task next time i see him!!! This makes me think (getting back to the OP) that his defection must have been bigger than i thought. An all time great! Scully pales in comparasin. Despite the circumstances maybe its time to move on from Mr Moneybags Scullywag

My dad also told me RDB playing stature grew after he retired. In his playing days dad rated him a very good tough player, not a champion player. Some of the older posters can clarify this. A club premiership captain trumps a talented 30 game no 1 draft pick player every day. In level of importance to the MFC that is. RDB is a club champion to 4 clubs, MFC, Sydney, Nth and Carlton. I consider him a VFL/AFL champion

I dont see any reason for GWS to lie. $cully is their marquee player and they will milk any newsworthy item they can. They need the media attention to create the following for long term survival. I see two big question marks on $cully's long term AFL capabilities. His injury and his ability to play with the big boys. Everyone knows his athletic abilities, and in an under age comp, he had AFL standard athletic abilities playing against boys. This made him the elite junior. I doubt whether he can transfer this against men with the same athletic abilty as he lives in a boy's body. I believe he will be out-muscled and tagged out the game. His foot skills are average too. He will become a good AFL player but not elite. So an average, young No 1 draft pick player left the club. So did Barassi, Healy, Wells and Alves. They left for $$$$ and/or success too. I think they were bigger loses than $cully in their time. Too much energy wasted on the boy i think. Regardless of the circumstances.

Again, very good post. At the end of the day MN is still very much respected regardless of pointing out an aspect that some may have disagreed with. Im of the opinion that his media performance is improving. No BIG tough guy comments. I love the changes he has made. It feels like he has bought the FD into this century. I hope (and believe) he is the 'messiah' until he proves otherwise.

It was my first time at training too. I have to say im off to the optometrist as my eyesight is not good and I had a lot of trouble identifying players. My observations were: Very difficult conditions today. Very windy and rain/hail toward the end of the session. Skills were very impressive particulary by foot and marking considering the tricky wind conditions. Skills dropped off after the rain, understandably. J Rawlings was a strong presence more so than the other coaches (from the Swan Street end) Rehab group doing laps or sprints, Tappy, Trengrove, Williams, (all doing laps at a good pace), Lawrence (i think) and Jetta (doing sprints toward the end, although the former two participated in the main group too). The Russian was training away from the group at the end but may have participated with the main group? One drill was 4 mids recieving the ball on the back flank/wing, 4 opposition mids (3 front on, 1 from behind) pressing. The ball recieving mids were to run hanballing to team mates or run thru beating the press then kicking long to the KP forwards. The first 3 attempts were not good, Rawlings called the group together to discuss the bad attempts and afterwards the ball moved nicely thru the press. Most nearly all kicks into the forward line were to advantage. I have read in previous yrs the skill level was not great. This was not the case. Kicking thru the wind, reading the ball thru the air to mark was spot on, although there was not a lot of defensive pressure in most drills Watts was a stand out. As previously said, bigger and he looks like a KPF. He moves gracefully and his skills standout. I wasnt keeping an eye on him but kept looking as his class/skills stood out. He had a presence out their too, eye catching! As a whole the body shape of the players is bigger. Blease has built up considerably, Trengove has continued to build, Tappy is massive in his upper body but his legs look they need building (maybe coz his so big up top). Williams is a big unit. To me on game day Beamer always stands out with his body size but not today. Although he is a big unit in comparison but not such a stand out in size. Bate has fined down overall in size and looks like a midfielder I couldnt help but think they were like race horses, big but finely trim althletes. I was nicely surprised to see Sellar control the ball below his knees. He seemed very comfortable in this area The session wasn't gut wrenching and Collingwood were on Gosch's paddock next oval over and were still training after I left and the dees had finished. If I can think of anything to note I'll post later.

IMO left footers never seem to have a good right foot (green is an example) but they get away with it as they turn to their left foot instincfully. Whilst right sided players turn right instincfully and defensively. Bates biggest problem is his agility as a midfielfer. He needs a big turning circle to get on his left foot, thus needing more time. The opposition will work him out easily. I hope im wrong and he can use his build to his advantage. Im just know him as a forward

Thanx Footynut Its good to hear Sylvia has been given a talking to other than his drinking/partying acts. And via a method i agree with ;-) lol. For others im talking/hoping its about his playing performance. The man is a potential star!!

I have to agree, why Jack and Aaron? Many more come to mind (Sylvia screams out!). It seems to me these two guys did not have a 'blank canvas' and had pre conceived images. IMO Jacks development was good in 2011. No-one will ever know how Jack received the public naming, or how his colleagues interperted it. Aaron too

Public Humiliation is a term commonly used in the sector i work. It means any statement of negativity of an individual used in the presence of colleagues. Im not sure if it is used in other sectors. I agree its a strong term, its in my vocab and i use it without thinking how its interperted. Oopps. Still its frowned apon in my world. I havent seen MN talk on camera or live and base my opinion from print. As ive said previously thats how i base my opinion. But hey, overall im excited for the clubs future. The structural changes, new appointments and MN's impressive coaching history, he just needs to transfer his skills to a AFL senior position and thats not a given yet.
