Great summary Binman. Harley, Hannan and Kossie were all very important for us last week and all three seem to be improving each week which is exciting. Very much looking forward to seeing what they can bring this week. All three are classy players

Hannah was massive in last quarter last week, seems to have a knack of boning up when needed. I thought VDB was as well. Perhaps thrown on the ball for small patches to have max impact physically?

  2. Absolute cracker of a day up here on the border. Gonna do a few jobs round the house and enjoy the sunshine. Then it's footy time, light the fire and drink some beers.

Don't need to do anything spectacular today, everyone plays their role we will walk away with the W (ferda)

We are a 4 goal better side than Hawthorn, get the 4 points and move on.

Not in the form he wasn't in it doesn't.

The term "dangerous forward" certainly hasn't reared it's head since 2018 with Tommy unfortunately (the 2019 match against Cartlon the exception).

Not saying he won't have his moments but so would anyone if you gave them as many games as Tommy's had without giving much of a yelp in most of them since his outlier season up forward.

I thought you could see in the first quarter last week before TMac got injured you could see him playing a high CHF role with the weed deeper, probably [censored] him better.

    My take:

Kudos to Oscar. The two best parts of his game were his spoil on King on the wing when he was right on his tail and then going for the mark on the goal line in the last quarter rather than spoiling. It was his best game since QB 2018 and he looked more confident. Max Gawn was on 3AW on Sunday and was saying how Oscar is our best reader of the play down back and helps organise our defence, with Lever the main beneficiary. I am sure this is true, but he also needs to make sure he competes strongly, otherwise he is a liability.

Some of our defensive efforts in the backline were a bit lacking and our small defenders were ordinary IMO. The second quarter was particularly disappointing given they had only 6 entries and 5 scoring shots. I think Jetta is almost finished and Jones or Rivers would give us a lot more drive out of the backline.

Oliver and Petracca got a lot of it but were very sloppy at times and need to improve for us to take the next step.

Viney was fantastic and Gawn played much better (although his kicking was poor).

Weideman was both good and bad, but he is a key for us going forward and we need to persevere.

Our forward entries were a little bit better and having Weideman as the main target meant that we weren't out marked as often. In saying this, he still needs to work harder when out of position on getting the ball to ground. Hopefully it gets better again with TMac and Weideman playing together.

Hibberd is having a better season and looks to be getting back to near his best.

Our kick in strategies are uninspiring. We allow too much ground to be taken off the mark in defence and May's kicking is inconsistent and the option is predictable.

I would like to see Melksham and Harmes swap ends. Melksham is out of form but still one of our best kicks and could do with a stint at high half back and Harmes is better forward/on ball.

If TMac is unable to play, I hope we go with Smith as a forward. He has the capability of competing in the air but also the speed to apply pressure on the deck. I feel like Smith is a player we need to get games into as a forward, because with his athleticism, he could take a big step.

This is staggering, has anyone watched the replay and seen if they done anything but out to the left had flank to Gawn?

Didn't even see the old barrel down the middle (which seems to be our only other option)

Seems strange to not mix it up at all.

  6. Got some pork fillet marinating in a Chinese BBQ brine, some home made Italian venison sausages, a couple of car from porterhouse steaks all going on the smoker and a bottle of Hently farm Shiraz*

The final piece of the puzzle is a pineapple of the sun's paying $2.40 as an insurance policy...

*I know that description is a bit to stereotypical for some but I can assure you I am a hairy tattooed pig farmer who has never been to the snow.

Oliver is a great midfielder, but he's not a superstar yet. There are two key parts of his game he needs to improve to become a superstar.

First, he needs to stand up and have an impact when the team needs it. Superstars drag their team along with them. Think Michael Voss bulldozing someone and kicking a goal when scores are tied. Think Dusty shoving aside multiple people and snapping his third goal of a quarter when scores are tied. The superstars have the ability to stand up when it's required. Oliver as yet doesn't do this. He consistently wins ball across games, but he doesn't have bursts of impact or stand up in big moments.

Second, he needs to hit the scoreboard. The difference between the superstars (Dusty, Fyfe, Dangerfield) and the next level down (T. Mitchell, Kelly, Oliver) is the superstars all hit the scoreboard. They do it consistently and sometimes in a big way. Dusty, Fyfe and Danger all rest forward and kick bags. the best players in the league are mid-forwards. Oliver showed glimpses of this in 2018, but as yet hasn't developed the forward part of his game.

I believe he can become a superstar. He has shown he has the ability and physical attributes, he just needs to develop them. At this stage, he came in a ball winning gun, and he's still a ball winning gun. He hasn't really developed much at all, but he is young and has plenty of time.

None of those players done it until they hit their "peak"

Martin specifically was useless and got a game on potential for 6 or so years (admittedly his ceiling was ridiculous)

I have this on going joke with a friend who is a bulldog supporter that Bontempelli isn't actually good, he is a product of the media.

Footy wire confirms this as he has him covered in nearly every stat. But interestingly if you compare a 22 year old Oliver to any of days superstars he has them covered by the length of the straight.

If he can continue his upward trend we will have a multiple brownlow medalist on our hands, such are his numbers.

Yep, agreed;    but I think we got a bit comfortable at Qtr timwe, but our good momentum, and Carlton's failings continued for a few minutes into the 2ndQtr.  And with that, I noticed we started to place the all into F50,  more shabbily.   We weren't mentally as careful with decision making,  as in the 1st Qtr.

We lost our mental edge via complacency.  As we traditionally do.   Go off the boil.

This... IMO, is why we play better when we are the Hunters,   and why we panic a bit,  when being hunted.

A sign of a culture that is easily satisfied.  Then switch off,  instead of going in for the kill.

Would you care to elaborate on this a little or was it just an off the cuff comment?

There has been something not quite right about my team at work and you just hit the nail on the head. We seem to suffer from this (and I think your correct pointing out Melbourne do as well) and was just wondering if there is some team building theories around this?

  9. Hang on, didn't we win? Goodwin is going to be the first coach in history to get sacked for winning.

It might not have been pretty and there may be issues but we did win, I wasn't that drunk was I?

    Talk about over reaction

Did not get selected fir the 2 Marsh games  so did you think he would come in as a surprise.

About  time Fantasy and SCoachers realised they don't have any say in how a Club  picks it's team each week.

Rivers has done everything asked of him and  yes He is one of my favourites to get in the team on the HBF by the end of 2020 injuries or not.

All of the training reporters have given Trent the thumbs up and now it's a bit hard not to give him a spot ahead of Salem Jets Hibbo or Hore and Lockhart as most of that group play good on talls or smalls.

The draw will be thrown around and 4 or 5 day breaks will endure that we will play 30 plus msybe 34/5 over the season such is our depth I believe.

Its sad that VFL is Cancelled  but our guys will be At least the fittest and super ready for a Chance  the AFL.

Rivers  will Get his chance and may even take it without being dropped!

Just forget Fantasy teams it's exactly what it's named The selectors pick the real ones !!!

I think you may have missed my point. Normally in fantasy circles people get some mail or some whispers about who's shaping up to play early and who isn't. I was merely pointing out that he was hot property for supercoachers early which would indicate that someone, somewhere along the line, was of the understanding that he was in line for early games. Not often they are wrong.

I found it interesting that despite this mail, and taking kick ins in intra club, that there was no marsh series games and even with Salem and Jones (who is now a forward/back flanker) there wasn't even a mention.

Didn't think he would come in as a surprise just asked if any of the obviously very heavily connected people on this forum had heard anything.

Would hardly consider that an over reaction.

That is amazing, I wonder if there is anyone from any other club who can beat that.

Just spoke to a Geelong friend, he said Col Hutchinson (afl statistician) hasn't missed any Geelong game for premiership points since 1963 or any Geelong home game at all since 1958.

  12. Has anyone got an insight on Rivers? Slot of supercoahers (myself included) thought he was going to get early games but nothing. Is he not meeting some standard at training? With Salem and Jones out and still no spot on the HBF it's hard to see him cracking onto the side this year?

Do you believe in Martians Sue.?   Or is this one of those female things,  and so, one of those overreactions, to a simple concept put forth.?

    Remember 'be alert',  'not alarmed'.

Who says sue is a man? Don't you listen to Johnny Cash?

If he doesn't show some signs of improving this then it's a concern.

He doesn't need to take huge pack marks but he needs to impose himself on games.

    Big tackles, smothers, blocks, 1%ers

Should try to model his game off Aaron Naughton or Membrey.

Disagree, I think the way he can most to the team is like Hawkins. Lead, mark, kick, goal, repeat.

Weideman doesnt deserve first crack at all  He has done nothing to earn it.

LJ can at least jump over anyone and is an X factor with his athleticism,   and will provide a contest at every stoppage.

LJ brings plenty to the table, Weideman brings little to nothing.

    Easy decision.

You are both wrong and right

Weideman has to nothing to deserve it in the tuck, but he isn't a ruckman. Max will ruck the majority of the game on his own. I think the role we are filling is a forward who can attend maybe 8-10 centre bounces a game.

    Who is the better forward?

For what it's worth I'd be happy to play all of Weideman as a stay at home forward and have McDonald and Jackson push up and run back, which is what I think will happen

Need a superstar of the game.

We currently have ZERO players who can be called that, but several who i believe are capable of rising to that level.

We have a great list age profile. Just takes several of your best to have career best seasons at the same time to elevate this list to flag capable, and a superstar to put it over the top in those clinch moments

A good run with injuries, and a dose of long overdue luck.

1 might not be enough anymore either but I agree. Need a genuine undisputed top 3 in the comp player. THEN add Gawn, Oliver, Petracca, May, Lever et cetera

We need a Brownlow medalist ON TOP of what we have to be considered anything more than just a finals team.

    A bit humbling actually

I saw this this morning but wasn't sure if it was different to his End of Footy Year 2019 rankings.

I think this is his predicted top 50 for the year, then at the end he does he's actual top 50.

So he is predicting the Bont to be number 1. I would argue he won't even be the best Footscray player
