    • Seriously though stop petracca Oliver and Gawn and they have nothing.
    • Marshall record on Gawn is actually good.
    • Ryder won’t win hits outs against Gawn.
    • Gawn doesn’t pose the same threat as precious years. Ryder and Marshall should be able to nullify him or even work him over. He isn’t a physical ruckman.
    • Max Gawn back in is obviously huge for them but he has played the last few times we have beaten them too and we are stronger in the ruck this year.

    Everything else

    • The brothers going at it in the midfield will be interesting. I assume Zak Jones has the upper hand on Nathan in games won given Sydney would have been a better team over the course of the last few years.
    • Jones gives them a definite psychological lift and a bit more grunt.
    • Tipping Max King to kick 7 and Steven May to punch himself in the head.
    • I love jake carlisle, he always can [censored] off the oppositions fans and is one of us, Bloke will win a norm smith for us if we reach a grand final.
    • Bit of a power play by us to name Kent at ruck rover against the dees.
    • Melbourne are full of heads that you look at and just think they need a punch in the nose.
    • Wow and just read Fritsch missed the start of training and that's why he's dropped. They're in all sorts.
    • Geez they have some very ordinary footballers in that 22. They really drop off after there top 6 or 7 players.
    • Dee's changes benefit us I reckon. Lost a lot of speed and defense. And have a very tall backline. Key will be to keep Lever occupied though as he runs lose when O.McDonald plays and also have Tomlinson play back atm.
    • Mitch Brown not really a bonafide key forward though is he? Think he plays like more of a tall flanker
    • Fritsch our for Melbourne I thought he was the only one that kicked any goals for them
    • They’ve been playing Harmes out of position all years, very weird. Nat Jones is s*** yet he gets midfield minutes instead of Harmes.
    • I reckon harmes is forward mid. Maybe petracca has been the issue.
    • Issue is that they have Brayshaw, Oliver, Jones, Viney, Petracca, Harmes all wanting midfield minutes but arent much good on the outside.
    • Petracca handy fwd but has been killing it in the middle.
    • Tom McDonald dropped is a blow to our chances, he's a liability for them up forward. Fritsch dropped helps us though as he's one of their better forwards.
    • Is harmes one of those Kents that we make look like Leigh Mathews?
    • Goodwin playing a hail mary, line in the sand card at selection by the looks.
    • For the record, James Harmes last 5 games vs St.Kilda = 113 touches and 10 goals. We are his bunnies. WHAT THE ACTUAL F**K???????

Oops, had some bad calls in my day but yeah, that's a mulligan

I just don't think we're at the stage yet where it's a minor thing that can just be deleted and ignored.

IMO the reason these things are raised when they happen is to build the pressure on social media companies to begin to act. They are notoriously poor at recognizing this behaviour let alone acting on it. Someone reported the racist comment made but Instagram came back with 'this doesn't go against our community guidelines'. The AFL are already trying to raise the pressure on social media companies to be more accountable, and they're not alone there, so to me; the more times it's raised the more pressure goes onto them to actually address it properly.

In my opinion the fact we need a social media platform to out law this behavior speaks volumes. We as a species can't seem to get past this. Eddie Betts summed it up best I reckon, he said "it's no longer good enough to say 'Im not racist' and think that's ok, you have to be actively fighting this" or something along those lines

I was in the " that's terrible but I'm not a racist so it's not my problem camp" for a long time but I realised if I don't teach my kids to stand against it nothing will change.

The coon cheese argument is a perfect example of where we are at for mine. "Why should we change the name, it has nothing to do with the racist side of the word it's named after the man who invented the process of creating that type of cheese"

Then you hear a story for a young Aboriginal man who says do you know what it's like to have cheese thrown at you at school as a child a called a coon? To me that's where we are at. It would be great if as a community we didn't have to rename things like this, but I'd we don't nothing will change.

All of a sudden changing the name of some cheese isn't the biggest deal is it?

There is a fantastic south Park episode that centers around this problem where Stan tries to understand what it's like to be black and Token gets angry, it's not till the end that Stan says "I get it now, and it's I don't get it, I never will, I'll never understand what it's like to be black because I'm white"

Isn't mean to start any arguments and feel free to delete if it's to provocative but that's my opinion anyway.

  3. Oh yes I've been waiting for this one, for years I've argued with the Footscray boys at work who's the better midfield. I think we might see an all out gun fight Oliver and Petracca vs Macrae and Bontempelli. Wow.

I've got a rack of beef ribs, a cape from scotch fillet and 2 dinosaur size tomahawk ribeyes, fair to say the father in law and I are going to eat like kings... Time for a beer, photos to come.

  4. It's 4 premiership points. We could lose this game and go undefeated for the rest of the year, but this one feels different...

It's time for the new era to stand up, take control, and take this club foward.

The old guard is done, they've battled as hard as they could but today is the day, against the old enemy, that we must rise.

The old Melbourne would fold, fall, offer excuses, have a good team on paper but forget the game is played on the ground.

I get the feeling these guys won't let that happen, there is something in the air that's for sure.

Agree. Which is one reason why I'm not convinced Bartlett's comments were smart as they amplified this factor.

Of course we would have still been under pressure, but Bartlett introduced the spectre of goody getting sacked. Which adds another volatile element to the mix.

The bombers were arguably worse than us. And it is worth remembering that they are way less successful than us in the last 10 years. But copped little heat because the footy media love nothing more than coachs being under the pump and Bartlett served up goody.

As you say any result the pressure needle remains the same whatever the result. And that pressure flows to the roos game.

Agreed. A rocket like that from the chairman is ok when you have an experienced list that understands their role well and lost their way a bit. A young team still learning, on a journey if you will, spells disaster.

How many of our players think they now have to win the game of their own boot, and try too much. Our young captain is already playing sore, how far will he push himself.

    This isn't country footy.

Omac did not have a great game.

But please can people stop with the rrubbish about Georgiades giving him a touch up. It is completely untrue.

Not one of his goals were omacs fault. He wasn't even on him when they were they kicked As I have forensicalliy established. Two, maybe three were levers fault.

Don't believe me? Go to AFL.com stats pro and look at the vision of georgiades involvement. It will take 2 minutes.

    Sheesh

Sheesh HAHAHHA haven't heard that one in years.

Out of curiosity how do you get the AFL stats pro packages I'm something of a forensic establisher myself

  7. Another weekday game, another early start for Josh. -3 at the moment and will get a bit colder before the sun comes up, better go make sure all the pigs are tucked in it's freezing! (Literally)

Feel like we're on a hiding to nothing tonight, win by 10 goals and "it's only Adelaide", and God help us if it goes the other way.

Adelaide will be looking at us as an opportunity, this will require professionalism, fly in get points fly out.

I find myself jumping on the Game Day thread early to see what Josh is smoking/slow cooking/BBQing- good stuff!

I used to start real early every weekend for work and for a while I started nearly every game day thread.

I guess this is my new thing

How's the weather up Corowa way Joshy? Cloudy and grey up in here in Albury currently. The permits have been a disaster with some of our Wodonga folks at work.

Yeah a bit overcast, typical winter's day I guess. Cops on the corowa bridge have been fantastic. Frustrating that we can't move around freely but we all have to do our part x no matter how great or small.

  10. GAME DAY oh yeah baby. Got a pastrami on the smoker and a Ruben sandwich (if you don't know look it up) for dinner, gotta try stay of the cans long enough though. 4 am start tomorrow isn't going to be fun, especially getting through the permit zone into NSW...

Jones in for Lockhart, still not convinced about Melksham.

Agreed, my original post questioned Lockhart, Melksham and Brayshaw but thought it was a bit controversial.

I think those blokes get dropped from a losing team but while we're winning let them go.

Yep.  Starting to believe he doesn't actually support the club.  There are a few of those around these parts.

Good effort joeboy.  Agree with others that I think Jetta played quite well, and kept Wingard pretty quiet, but the rest seems spot on.

To be fair I'm in a Hawthorn Facebook group and it's fantastic trolling them...
