  1. as ive said before. the solution is to have th AFL take all the gate recipts and divide them by 18 at the end of the year. thats the fairest system and the one most likely to keep all clubs in a solid financial position
  2. Whats so hard to understand, demon3165? that the tv stations who do have a say in the tv rights wouldnt choose a dees game with sub par footy and a 12 goal thrashing , over fixturing a clash of two strong and strongly supported sides in a prime time tv slot? its very basic stuff. the mfc will need to turn it around quick cause the train has pulled out of the station and is beginning to race away. the longer the club is under performing the harder it will be to climb back.
  3. WYL is bang on here. it concerns me that some supporters have their blinkers on here. MFC is getting slowly %$^&ed, without lube. Too many members have an overinflated sense of the clubs relevance in the 21st century. The carlton push is a very real threat, yes, the club can turn back the tide by becoming successful but as it stands we are pretty much irelevant to modern footy in the eyes of most. Of course the AFL would rather carlton be playing at the G if they could pack it out. Melbourne in the mind of many is taking up valuable fixturing, just to turn around and fill it with 21000 people. it doesnt make commercial sense for melbourn to be a tenant and Carlton not. That is all that matters in 2013, commercial sense. Until the dees start winning and winning good, the club does not make commercial sense to the AFL. The club is hanging on by the skin of its teeth - to think otherwise is fantasy
  4. moon probe is exactly what this is. well said. this is so amateurish and a detriment to the team having to deal with those conditions. Really, how many die hard MFC members are goingto be produced from two games in darwin. meanwhile the blues are sneaking in to the G behind us. really small minded pathetic marketing. Melbourne as a brand must be pushed in VICTORIA. there are more people living on teh monington peninsula than living in the entire northern territory. concentrate on making the MFC brand an icon in melbourne. to do that means winning games at the MCG and getting on the BACK page of the papers. Not some experimental clash against Port, 3000km away. Rookie mistake really
  5. Fantastic post Ron
  6. what if the No. 14 draft pick from a few years ago has suddenly found himself?! Maybe being a bit optimistic but imagine if we have jsut stumbled across a late bloomer KPP first round draft pick. As, a depth player, we may look back and realise we were selling Sellar short! Optimism guys!
  7. of course its the preseason and it could all change for those clubs that have underperformed during NAB cup but for me whats concerning is the reasons Melbourne has under performed. Its the lack of team work, the poor field kicking and the fade outs. thats what is concerning. that stuff cant be switched on in 2 weeks. i have realistic expectations of 2013 so , baby steps, as they say, but my point is i disagree with posters who write our poor nab cup off as just pre season form. our problem areas run deeper than that. thats where the Dees differ to those other sides in the league that havent really performed as expected in teh NAB cup. the hawks, swans etc no doubt will switch on in 2 weeks. we have a bit more work to do . Still, i love what neeld and co are doing and the direction the FD is taking. but lets not kid ourselves by thinking its only a practice match , we are in for a bit of pain yet. the best thing we can do thouugh is to pick out the positives (eg Watts game today), and enjoy the ride. Carn the DEES!!
  8. i think WYL is trying to say that he does understand the whole idea of frontloading but considers the 95% minimum payment of the salary cap as too high for underperforming clubs. Yes MFC are getting around it by front loading but I believe his point is that the minimum should be more like 75% . More the principle of the policy rather than the way the dees are getting around it
  9. yep, spot on Ron. his approach and attitude is superb I reckon. Him, Craig and Misson the 3 best recruits the dees have had in a long time.
  10. Hey guys, ive just been on youube watching a nic Natanui highlights clip. sorry , just had to throw that in there
  11. i see jose mourinho is banned. what happened there?
  12. PUMP in to a few die hard dees supporters? sorry Phuong, i couldnt help myself
  13. interesting. whatever the facts it does sound like it was quite a night. what a coincidence bumping in to that guy
  14. dal santo is handy, cyril turns matches
  15. Yes as i requoted to hardnut, i most definitely defend his right to presumption of innocence but i disagree with people arguing the facts when they have SFA of a clue as to what happened that night. discuss by all means but posters arguing the facts when they werent there is a bit prepostorus. As i said before, let the courts settle it
  16. defended by people who dont have any more facts than the people accusing him? let the courts settle it.
  17. Yes and those posters are absolutely correct
  18. There are posters mindlessly accusing him of being guilty without the facts and there are posters mindlessly defending him without the facts. he could be guilty , he could be innocent. None of us know so lets stop attacking or defending. sit on your hands guys and let the people WITH the facts sort it out.
  19. Why does being proud of our flag make you a bogan? broad strokes mate
  20. Chook i actually like that idea. would seem a bit extreme to some but i like it. i cnat ever remember watching hocking, harvey, platten matthews have to come and sit on the pine 8 times a game. why do these guys have to? slow the game a bit and keep the stars out on the ground
  21. they managed just fine 10 years ago when the average was 40 rotations a game. The game was a superb spectacle back then. The players games will evolve to last out the game jsut as they did 10 years ago. How often did robert harvey or greg williams sit on teh bench in their day?!
  22. the fact that so many people now refer to a game of football as "bearable to watch" or "watchable" shows that something had to be done. This is our great game, it should ALWAYS be bearable to watch. the huge congetsion, flooding, press has made it not so bearable to watch on many occasions. As ive said before , unless the game is a blockbuster with a alot hinging on the result, watching games without melbourne playing can be hard to watch.
  23. I completely agree BH. the game needs to be opened up more. as i said in another post the game is like a flock of seagulls fighting over a bag of chips these days. whether or not this cap manages to do that will be seen but im happy the AFL is attempting something at least. I wouldve preferred an unlimited rotation number but a minimum time limit the player had to stay on the bench once hed left the ground. 5min for instance. Its only a few years ago as oyu said that 30 or 40 rotations were the norm and who can forget the good old days when the only time you came off was if you were injured or youd stuffed up!
  24. I agree deeluded. its like seagulls fighting over a bag of chips these days. Hopefully either the game will evolve back to that more open man on man contest or perhaps teh league will make changes. perhaps the interchange cap will help but i doubt it. 80 rotations is still double what they were doing in the late 90s.
  25. thats a pretty ordinary forward line. Hopefully howe, Byrnes, blease can benefit from the big bodies smashing packs cause i cant see too many contested marks Inside 50 out of that lot
