You shouldn't take things too personally . My references to derogatory , insulting or demeaning remarks re Brent was directed at those who make them .
-
I've stayed true to course . Never wavered . I don't bag out players individually . There's a major difference between critiquing a list on an overall basis as opposed to being unnecessarily unfair in criticizing a particular player .
-
Got no idea what your talking about re Chapman and frankly , I'm not interested . Talk about Melbourne , Chook . I like to put these 'Internet' comments into the real world . Can you imagine what our Clubs attitude would be towards an employee or anybody involved with the club if that person was throwing insulting , derogatory or demeaning comments towards a player ?
-
One thing is for sure , those who want to scapegoat or point the finger at one player or another in a disparaging way , wouldn't last 5 minutes at a club . You'd be shown the door very quickly .
-
If you looked at actual performances this season you'd be lucky to be able to come up with 10 players who've had 'Good' years . The rest have struggled for one reason or another (30 odd) . I'm not going to list them all because there's no need . It's a team game . Naming names and blaming this player or that player achieves nothing .

Yeah , I was thinking of changing it back 'Bossdog' so you've prompted me into action . I had the photo of Jim up as a mark of respect and liked that it expressed him in a different way . I've put Kramer back for now . Cheers

In relation to this critique of Moloney one could make an argument that most of our players are somewhat similar . And some don't go as hard at the ball as Brent . So .....if people are happy to delist Moloney then we might have to delist about 30 . Just for consistency's sake .
-
What do you base this on , Chook ? About a dozen anonymous people on an internet forum ? You are possibly part of the vocal minority (on this thread) . IMO the silent majority probably can't be bothered arguing with people who might be described as being unnecessarily unfair on one of 'Our own' . I know a number of Melbourne supporters and none of them are ruling a line through Brent . Their opinion is that he's simply out of form. We've got a whole bunch of players who are out of form but it seems it's easier to just blame Brent for our woes . We make excuse after excuse for many other players with such reasons as "The new coaching structure" or "Our fitness program" or he's "Playing a new role" etc etc etc . If there are these such 'Rules' then all players should be afforded the same excuses/reasons . Excuses/reasons can't be selective . Some might think otherwise , but in the real world it doesn't work that way . Especially at a sporting club .

Early start for 'Le Tour' today . In fact , they've started the 1st climb as I'm posting this . SBS coverage starts at 10pm (as usual) but you can watch it live at SBS online . They've gotta be a bit weary after yesterday's stage ! Stage 12 ... THE VIEW OF JEAN-FRANCOIS PESCHEUX Many will get fidgety "Yet another strategic stage, one which could tip the balance in the points classification on its own. Why? Because we have adorned the first part of this long stage (226 km) with the Col de Grand Cucheron and the Col du Granier. The latter will be climbed on its most difficult side. A high pace will knock out the sprinters, favouring riders who are fast and capable of hanging onto the bunch on climbs. We will insist that time limits be applied strictly, so I bet many riders will get fidgety, and some of them will not forget the finish in Annonay any time soon..."

We can all view things differently 'dl' . I'll be interested to see the reaction of some if Moloney is re-signed . A lot of player's strengths are sometimes viewed as weaknesses . Kicking the ball long has seemed to be a large part of how we've been playing this year so you could argue that Brent fits right in . 'Transitioning the list' as you describe it is something any new coach will do (unless a new coach is a carbon copy of the previous coach). Neeld was always going to put his stamp on things and there's most probably going to be some casualties . A lot is going to depend on how much of our salary cap we spend on free agents or other 'Out of contract' players . Also reckon we will have a player or 3 who may seek a new home . Fairly big shake up of the list is my bet . But I hope Moloney stays .
-
Well , he's not a bad kick and when he gets it he usually launches it into our forward 50 . What's wrong with that ? I'd take that any day if we had good key forwards . Clark is currently 'It' and he's injured . If you want him to play like Judd or Ablett then you need to lower your expectations a tad . Last years match committee rated him enough to reward him with the B&F . The umps liked him too - 19 votes in a below average team isn't too shabby . Seems he's not too popular with a few of his own fans though . Which is a shame . The only explanation I can think of is Brent went on a rampage and killed a whole bunch of people's cats
-
If you mean he plays like a bit of a bull then I'd agree . He almost fits the 'Grunt' bit that Neeld talks about except he's been out of form for most of the year . He got lots of mates though . Without pointing the finger at any one player it's probably better to be one-dimensional than 'non-dimensional' ! I think that's the issue here , people want him to be something that he isn't or can't be . It's like the draft pick number syndrome . Brent is not an 'A' grader . He is what he is . If you classed an 'A' grader as someone who plays very well against any sort of opposition , consistently , then we don't have one (yet) . There's all sorts of levels of players but there have been plenty who play very well against lesser opposition and not so well against quality opposition . And ...there's been more than a few who seem to play well in the 'Big' games and go missing against lesser opposition . It takes all types .
-
We might need divine intervention for that 'Wyl' . And the National Draft (again) .
-
It's hard to remember any of our players having 'Good' games in 'Big games' in the last 5 and a half years . It's often hard to come up with 4 or 5 'Pass marks' in a lot of our games against good opposition . That's the reality when the team gets smashed I'd like to see a list of our players who have consistently done well in 'Big games' in the last 5 and a half years . Even a list of those who do well in 1 out of 3 games would be interesting . The 1st list would be empty and the 2nd list would contain less than a handful IMO . As an example , let's look at our 13 losses last year . Did any of our players have 4 or 5 good games in these 13 losses? A good game should include winning your position and/or beating your opponent (but not always) . It's easy to point the finger at one bloke but it's a team game and more than a few need to cop their fair share in a loss (especially a bad loss)

Ta mate . Yeah that profile looks damn tough tonight ! Who knows what's going to happen ? 'Spose the beauty of it is we don't know what Cadel or Bradley are thinking . Froome is the red herring in all of this . Just how good is he ? Evans could continue to bide his time but you'd reckon that the BMC team will have at least one prolonged attack in them . Hope SBS show the conclusion of the 1st climb . Should be done by 10.20pm (ish) . I like Gabriel's dish of the day but happy to miss one night ! As an aside , I really like Wiggins anti drugs stance . It's great to see a top sportsperson speaking out in such a way .

The 40 minute 1st climb to the 'Col de la Madelaine' will commence sometime after 9.40pm . The 40 minute 2nd climb to the 'Col de la Croix de Far will commence sometime after 11.10pm and the 30 minute final climb to 'La Toussuire' starts sometime after 12.40am . Must viewing tonight . THE VIEW OF JEAN-FRANCOIS PESCHEUX A tough one "One of the shortest stages in the 99thedition. But riders beware, it is a tough one! The course is simple: after the first thirteen kilometres from Albertville, the peloton will be hard pressed to find a single inch of flat terrain! The cyclists will tackle La Madeleine, La Croix de Fer and Le Mollard one after the other before the final climb up La Toussuire. Let me tell you, the final podium will start to take shape on the finish line here! Those who falter in this stage will get no second chances. The winner will not be known yet, but the losers certainly will."

Looks like Brent's been dropped . Another thread required for that , no doubt . "Moloney dropped ! Could be the end " . On his recall "Moloney back in ! It's not over yet"
-
So can a new role for Brent not be successful eventually ? I would say there are probably about 15 - 20 on our list who are struggling with their new roles . Do we rule a line through all of them as well ? Or is there just a separate rule for Moloney ?
-
But possibly inflammatory . The haters will come out to play . They always do .

The climb to the 'Col du Grand Colombier' should start sometime after 11.30pm tonight . Stage 10 ... THE VIEW OF JEAN-FRANCOIS PESCHEUX Break away and come together "Back to the mountains. On paper, the Grand Colombier is a monster. In my opinion, it is the toughest mountain in France, with sections at 12%. Nevertheless, its location 43 km from the finish changes the story altogether. Rather than a single devastating attack, I see a group of five or six strong riders break away and then come together before the finish. This is a classical but always exciting scenario, especially if one of the big names is missing from the breakaway. Look out just before the riders reach Bellegarde-sur-Valserine: we found a small bump which could very well make things easier for the finish line judge..."
