Time to go Goody?
Your choice, bub I'll ride it out as it's club first and individuals a long way behind (Players, Coaches, Administrators, President, CEO etc)

Time to go Goody?
Coaches get well paid these days It's not news either

Time to go Goody?
It would be more like $500k to $600k this year plus up to $1.2Million next year plus the FD Tax 75% or $$750k I thought everyone knew about the potential payout.

Time to go Goody?
And just to rub it in we're stuck with at least 6 players on medium to big long term contracts who are past their best (or well past their best) For what it is worth, if Goodwin was only contracted for this season then I'd be probably advocating a change at the top But a huge payout figure in the $Millions? No, we have to ride it out. Contracts are contracts and no one walks away from big money (generally) Ange Postecoglou stood firm and didn't quit or walk away ... result? Close on $10Million pay out

Time to go Goody?
If we sacked Goodwin now we'd have to pay him for this year and next year ... and he is on at least $1Million per season. Could be $1.2Million per season Plus, we'd incur the FD tax which is 75% with a maximum payout of $750k On this thread, the payout has been widely talked about with links surrounding the payout figure. It's not news

Do some research

Time to go Goody?
They won't waste $2.7Million by sacking Goodwin old dee, not going to happen. Follow the money Sometime next season is a real possibility though but only if we keep losing If we were losing to Neeldesque type proportions, you'd have a good point And in my view, the membership drop-off can be attributed to the players not giving a yelp If we sack Goodwin anytime soon we'll be posting a net loss in the financials. I can't see the new CEO making that sort of decision just as he has put his feet under the desk

Time to go Goody?
We'll win a couple/few more games and that will be that Sacking Goidwin is not a story in the mainstream media. It's all about Voss & Carlton And us beating Brisbane & running the Pies close kept the wolves at bay back a month ago Every win prolongs Goodwin's tenure, that's how it works
-
Time to go Goody?
Again, players are responsible for their own form, kicking for goal, going hard at the contest etc etc I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that we need to overhaul the list and reboot And don't forget that Goodwin stays because of his contract, so you and others are stuck with him no matter how much he might annoy you

Time to go Goody?
Could be that all our experienced good players are past their peak (or well past their peak)
-
Time to go Goody?
Yep, Goodwin has had enough time to fix our forward structure with regards to systems & personnel And our players should also have the wherewithal to know how to carry out simple instructions (forwards on the lead along with efficient kicks entering the 50) And to be fair, in the recent past, we've drafted 2 x top 20 picks where we attained JVR & Jefferson. With neither having much impact, especially of late But we've had a taste of how efficient we can be with the Freo & Lions wins In between and since, we've had the yips in front of goal, slow starts and old habits have returned The Pies from 60 metres out nearly always look confident & dangerous ... by contrast, when we're 60 metres from goal there's often a feeling of apprehension as in what happens next?

Time to go Goody?
Not sure it's a 20 or 30 player problem, Gonzo. More like 12-13 but that includes about 6 or 7 that are heading for delistment It's a different conversation if our forwards lead to the ball carrier with Clarrie, Petracca & Viney all lowering their eyes when entering the F50 by foot In a nutshell, JVR, Petty & Fritsch won't lead to the ball carriers and Petracca, Viney & Clarrie blaze away with their kicks forward Fix those 6 players and we are more than halfway there

Time to go Goody?
Yeah, I agree with a lot of what you've got to say. T-Mac could have been retained as the sub for a bit of versatility They are probably trying to teach Windsor to be accountable using him off HB but we lost his pace and burst as a consequence Our offense in general has been well talked about but the fact that it's still a conversation is frustrating. We should have moved on from the long bombs long ago. We're still stuck in amateur hour Not sure on JVR but he's got some raw talent that might come to fruition

Time to go Goody?
Yeah, I see the assistants as expendable and it's nothing personal either. Zero sentiment We need change in the FD and it won't be Goodwin* gone anytime before 6 or 8 games into next season (at a minimum) That might change if we lose all our remaining games and cop 4 or 5 thumpings ... but we've got enough talent to ensure that that won't happen. At a guess I reckon we'll finish on about 8 wins The other real talking point we'll be with regards to the trade table. I see it going 3 possible ways 1 - We back in the list to somehow turn things around (possibly) 2 - A reasonable amount of movement with 1 or 2 'name' players heading elsewhere (probably) 3 - A lot of movement where we end up revamping or revitalising the list. A domino effect once 1 or 2 players get traded (a possibility that I quite like) *Goodwin's contract keeps him at the Demons into next season

Time to go Goody?
Yep 2022 was the one that got away I think the other issue with regards to the new game style that we're trying to employ and what we've seen elsewhere, is it often requires an offense-minded coach And Goodwin's fortè is the defence and all-over defence. I don't rate him on offense But given that his contract keeps Goodwin employed at the MFC into next season, he'll need better assistants if we are to play finals next season On the evidence we've seen so far this season, our offense stinks So Chaplin & Jones should come under scrutiny And we'll need to be proactive in the off-season with regards to the list The current squad has quite a few holes in it and we've got too many set-in-their-ways types So we've gone from all excited for a bounce-back season (this year) to fingers crossed on the road back to relevancy

Time to go Goody?
We stuffed up in 2022 and ran out of legs but we still won 16 games in the H&A Cruelled by injury going into the 2023 finals series. Lost Petty, Melk with T-Mac & Fritsch on one leg. Then lost Gus & JVR on top of that ... 2023 is in the forgive-file in my view Last year we started losing our way and this year we look lost But again, we embarked on a new game style from early in 2024 and to my eyes, there's been a lack of a buy-in by the senior players As for Goodwin, because of his contract, he'll coach into next season so you may as well keep your powder dry until then The focus is on Carlton & Voss where as we're just not the story
-
Time to go Goody?
Yep, that's why we needed Petracca, Oliver & Viney to buy into the new game plan but on the evidence we've seen, none of the 3 have a want to hit up targets in the F50 What accentuates the issue is we don't have natural forwards who can win their own ball, get to the right positions or lead properly
-
Time to go Goody?
So we've got forwards who won't lead and mids who bomb away yet this is the fault of the coach? It's 100% on the players and that's why players such as long-bomb-Clarrie sat on the pine early in the season Move long-bomb-Petracca forward so he becomes a target and then move long-bomb-Viney forward as well Solves one problem but creates another ... our new look midfield needs many more games under their belts so as to become a potent force So Goodwin has been pro-active with the new game plan but it needs time and more importantly, a buy-in from all and sundry
-
Time to go Goody?
"Hey fellas, can you hit up a target in the forward line and can the forwards get on your bikes and present to the ball carrier" It's that simple, it really is. It's not rocket science, just basic footy 101 Yet our players are incapable of carrying out a simple instruction that could be used for the under 12's We've got many footballers who are deficient in footy IQ
-
Time to go Goody?
Well you certainly didn't blame Bailey Nor did I but I certainly did blame the players (more so for their lack of talent) Little did we know that the thumpings would continue into 2012 & 2013 So we've got plenty of talent now but the players just can't adapt to a new style But you never know, by the end of year the penny might drop for the players Share the ball instead of long bombs doesn't seem to be too big of an ask. But for our players, it is seemingly too much of an ask ... except for about 4 or 5 games this season when the new plan was enacted So we know the players are capable otherwise we don't beat Brisbane (up there) or run the Pies close
-
Time to go Goody?
You need to go a lot harder on the players as a whole. By constantly lambasting Goodwin, you make it look like he's responsible for all the players failings Truth is that any player is responsible for their own performances The coach can only do so much. We've got any number of players who can't carry out simple instructions And then people like you let them off the hook by blaming the coach First quarter against the GC says it all. Disinterested players who lack motivation. Not many self-starters amongst the playing group. Lazy & unaccountable

Time to go Goody?
Goodwin is on record in the pursuit of a new game plan started in early 2024 Players couldn't adjust so we went back to the old ways before attempting the same game plan from the start of this season Again, the players couldn't adjust so we are where we are as a result Goodwin must have known the change in game plan was risky but he took that risk regardless. Should be applauded for doing so, not lambasted As for the players, many of them lack footy IQ and there lies the problem
-
Time to go Goody?
You'll never get it Wyl Depending on who is the coach you change your mind about the players efforts on a day to day basis You even blamed Goodwin when Clarrie went off the rails. Astonishing World Hunger? On Goodwin?
-
Time to go Goody?
Bailey lost a lot and Goodwin has won a lot of games? (including a flag) There's a big 'like' factor in sport and I reckon Goodwin's deadpan demeaner isn't well liked Where as Bailey seemed to be well liked You went to town on the players over 186 yet when the players let themselves down badly against North you blamed Goodwin Your argument lacks consistency
-
Time to go Goody?
Not much by the looks of things From memory it looked like we were tracking well but there was something minor about Goodwin needing to be a bit less serious (thus, the lovey dovey stuff??) Oddly enough, many here want Goodwin to be a lot more serious (with the players) By the way, if it's a player and coaching issue then those only taking sides against Goodwin need to talk about the players not performing up to expectations as well I've highlighted the player's side of things but I'm not a huge Goodwin fan as I reckon he struggles with the offense in footy But he's been excellent on the defensive side of things and that can't be put aside If Goodwin coaches into next season he'll need better assistants
