Time to go Goody?
No, I'm just evening the score as people like you keep protecting the players as if they can do no nothing wrong In fact, it's quite amazing how much stock is placed on the coach Strange how we never blamed RDB or Roos when they kept losing games Even Neeld copped very little (as compared to Goodwin)

Time to go Goody?
In my world it's incumbent on the players to get the best out of themselves That's not happening and the coach cannot hold their hands During the Bailey years you constantly blamed the players. Personalities? Why the switcheroo?

Time to go Goody?
Because we're obliged to field a team? He perhaps could have dropped a few more players but you can't blame him for sticking with players who delivered the ultimate prize And let's face it, the would-be replacement players at Casey aren't exactly banging down the door A list of good experienced players with a number of added on talented youngsters suddenly looks like a pipe-dream We've seen some fairly ordinary lists over the years (especially in the 70's and most of the 80's) but the current list has loads of talent Underperforming talent

Is there a possibility that the players are at fault in many instances? Any player weakness can't just be the fault of the coach Oliver going off the rails is an Oliver issue. Fritsch being disinterested is a Fritsch issue. JVR not leading or attempting to mark with one arm up is a JVR issue Petracca using the media to disrespect his own club is a Petracca issue ... etc etc Goodwin can't hold their hands nor can he look for and deliver to a target in the forward line. He's just the coach As for kicking at goal, that's on the players as well as he can't kick it for them Forwards not leading or making position? Well he's dropped JVR (twice) and Fritsch to make a statement My reckoning is that the players are self-satisfied and lack hunger Turn the list over as sacking the coach right now or in the next 12 Months is financially problematic Leave the list as it is and expect the same sort of results next season

Time to go Goody?
Yes that's true but the coach cops it 100 times more than the players (on this site) Player personnel wise we are in a real bind. We're paying elite money to a number of players for constant sub-par performances Almost untradeable because of the length of contracts and money involved Either way, it's hard to see a clear pathway ahead. If they stay and continue underperforming then another bog ordinary season is on the cards If we offload what would we get in return? In my view, not much apart from salary dumping I'd call for a full review but we just did that last year

Time to go Goody?
How about the players take responsibility for their own ineptness Oh, and bruise-free footy is back in case you hadn't noticed
-
Time to go Goody?
Blame the players They are the ones letting the club down

Time to go Goody?
I'm presenting another side of the story instead of joining in on the pile-on So not only can't our players carry out simple instructions but they often forget to turn up. There's no hunger Lord knows Goodwin cops it 100 times more than the players I don't see anyone else here going hard at the players Just attempting to even the score
-
Time to go Goody?
Well, in my circle, it's the players who are copping it big time. Not the coach This site is often not a good example of the thinking as we tend to see 5 or 6 people shiiitt-canning the coach hundreds and hundreds of times (like parrots) In terms of expectations and the strength of list, this is the worst year I can ever recall (in terms of underachieving) And we can't blame injuries either We've got a list of players who can't carry out simple instructions Lazy & Selfish
-
Time to go Goody?
You seem convinced that Goodwin is the sole issue when he may not be the issue at all Out players are letting themselves down, the club down and they are letting the coach down For this list of players to have only won 5 games this year is a disgrace As stated 2 months ago on this very thread, do not let the players off the hook
-
Time to go Goody?
How about that first quarter against GC!
-
Time to go Goody?
The drop off in membership is on the players, not the coaching Lazy, unaccountable & we choke in front of goal
-
Time to go Goody?
Money is really tight within the FD spend. There wouldn't be too many clubs not paying the max So the FD tax looms large We're just going to wade things out with Simon (regardless of which way one leans) And there has been a shift (on this thread at least) with the players now under the spotlight as well
-
Time to go Goody?
I get it and you are right What comes first? The bombing or the non-leading What we do see is both (lack of leading and long bombs) What I can't understand is why? Just change and change now Is it not a professional sport? So frustrating to watch as we are throwing wins away
-
Time to go Goody?
It's the AFL tax on FD spend, bub Try to keep up!! So if Goodwin was to finish in say, November (unlikely) we'd be up for about $2Million On top of that, if we appointed someone like Longmire, he wouldn't come cheap ... maybe $1.5Million per annum. All up, $3.5Million in 2026 I read somewhere that the minimum for a HC these days is $1Million. Stand corrected if wrong
-
Time to go Goody?
Yep but I can't see the axe falling anytime this year
-
Time to go Goody?
In rough terms Ok if he is on $1.2Million per annum (could be more) then that's 1.5 years ($1.8Million) plus $750k tax Equals $2.55Million By the way, the Neeld payout was $1.4Million and coincidentally, we asked for and received a grant of $1.4Million* from the AFL at the same time (cash-flow issue apparently!!) *Might have been $1.3Million

Time to go Goody?
But we can't necessarily contribute the membership drop off back to the coach The team isn't performing and many players are well below their best And there are a number of other factors such as cost I'm not a huge Goodwin fan but the the fall off has been across the board, not on one man's shoulders Others can disagree
-
Time to go Goody?
Apparently Goodwin is on at least $1Million per year and the contract is rock solid But a 75% tax would go on one of the years remaining in his contract ($750k) if it was an early payout So do the Maths and you have your answer

Time to go Goody?
Ir's fair to say that it has taken the MC too long to implement change with regards to our f50 entries Fair enough in 2022 and maybe 2023 as we were still winning a stack of games. But we did try and change in 2024 but then abandoned I still reckon it's the players who are at fault though. Old dogs, new tricks and all that
-
Time to go Goody?
Yep, it's like we lack imagination when entering the f50 (or it's bombs away) But is it that complicated? Kicking the ball out in front of a leading forward doesn't seem like too big of an ask Nevertheless, we don't do it Even at suburban level, it's taken for granted that the mids will try and pass the ball to a leading forward Heading into the forward line, we play unintelligent football
-
Time to go Goody?
We have a significant number of players who have regressed in the last year and a half Are they self-satisfield? Hungry for success? Desperate for success? I look at the list and see lots of talent. Certainly enough talent to be playing finals Just a waste of a season In 2024 we lost Gus, then Petracca & Oliver was average But now all we see is average, right across the playing list How to fix things is the big question as just changing the coach* may not change much at all. As previously stated, if we cull the list then it might be more a case of salary dumping *And changing the coach might cost the club in the region of $2.5Million
-
Time to go Goody?
I'm a firm believer that Goodwin is advocating change and is trying to implement change But it's fairly obvious (to me, at least) that the players are just not adhering to change The old habits becomes the default mode under pressure I reckon most of the other teams have realised that if they pressure our mids then the ball will be rushed forward to a forward line bereft of talent And just to make sure of it, the opposition teams flood our forward line to make it doubly hard to score (from the inside 50 entries) Not exactly news either ... it was evident in early 2022 that was the M.O. of the opposition teams We rarely see Oliver, Petracca or Viney in free space delivering the ball forward
-
Time to go Goody?
Moving the ball quickly is pointless unless we can then convert that movement into efficient forward 50 entries We'd probably be high up for inside 50 entries but that's another useless stat as we are terrible at converting those entries Let's face it, we are now a bottom 6 team and it's a long road back. Definitely need change but change isn't easy when the contracts are rock solid Didn't we have a full scale review in the off-season? Need another one

Time to go Goody?
Regardless, Oliver's impact is not worth anywhere near what he is getting paid Let's not forget that he went off the boil in 2023. So it's been over 2 and a half years of B grade (at best) performances So it wasn't just last year and this year To be fair, he's not alone Viney, May, Lever, Petty, Salem, Petracca, JVR, Sparrow, Fritsch and a number of others are below their best As a team, we are miles off it and it's not one particular area. For instance, we choke in front of goal And we are not hard at it either. Fearless football was Goodwin's mantra but we're not seeing it
