  1. ... and the Men's 470 (Belcher & Ryan) race twice today at 1.15pm For those unfamiliar, the competitors race up to 10 times and their worst result doesn't count So far, Belcher & Ryan have finished 2nd, 5th, 1st, 1st, 4th & 3rd with 4 races to go ... so the 5th placing doesn't count but will count if we finish worse than 5th in any of our remaining races
  2. Emma McKeon what a champion! Wins the 50m Gold in classic style! Counting the gold that we will receive for Matt Wearn in the sailing later on we're now up to 12 gold
  3. In other sailing news (apart from the certain gold to be awarded today to Matt Wearn in the laser) the Aussies are currently in 1st position in the Men's 470 (Mathew Belcher & Will Ryan) ... 4 races to go! And in the Nacra 17 mixed we are in 4th place with 3 races left to run. Should be able to medal if we finish off well
  4. Rohan Browning through to the Men's 100m S/F's after winning his heat ... 6th fastest to qualify as well The Semi's are on at 8.15pm tomorrow night whilst the final will be run at 10.50pm Plucked from obscurity after showing some serious speed playing Rugby Union at school (Trinity) Now he's arrived in the big time!

  7. Harry 'The Demon' Garside has won through to the quarter finals in the Light Weight Boxing after winning all 3 rounds against his Namibian opponent One more win and he is assured of a medal but he'd have grander designs you'd imagine!
  8. 9. Wow!! Kaylee McKeown again!! Gold!! What a champion!! The Double!! (100 & 200 Backstroke Gold) Emily Seebohm takes the Bronze with another fabulous swim
  10. As TD mentioned above, the Opals battle hard but we lack star power and difference-makers. Even so, we're going to need a couple of results going our way just to advance and then win our remaining game by 30+ points against Puerto Rico (which is do-able as Puerto Rico have been thrashed in their first 2 games) If everything falls into place we can advance but it's what happens from there which remains problematical
  11. From an overall perspective (re the teams) we are still well in the hunt with the Matilda's, Kookaburra's, Hockeyroos, Boomers, the Women's Water Polo team & the Women's Beach Volleyball team. The Men's Water Polo team are still alive but it's tough to win a medal against the Eastern European Nations And the Equestrian team in the 3 day event are often in the running for a medal of any colour Opals need to get a win on the board against China tonight to be in the mix 2 gold out of all that as a conservative prediction? Has to be at least 1 gold but 3 gold would be an excellent outcome
  12. A remarkable win and a fabulous contest And a great spectacle Our Matilda's were magnificent TD and we are right in the hunt for Gold now as the Brits were highly rated Matilda's 4 Great Britain 3
  13. 14. Emma McKeon - 100m Freestyle Champion
  15. Wow! That is a surprise We are currently 2nd in the Men's 470 but the details on some of the women's events are a bit sketchy ... we'll know more in a day or 2
  16. Fantastic! We're now up to 9 gold (we remain ahead of the count TD!) Magnificent win by Emma McKeon and Cate Campbell swum her heart out (again) Another great start to the day! Gold!!! (And Bronze!!)
  17. Best Bet Moonee Valley (Sat) R4 #5 Bedford $5.50 (Win)
  18. Yeah we've got 8 gold in 6 full days of competition but as we know, once the swimming is over and done with, gold medals are harder to come by. Be nice if we could keep up that sort of strike rate though TD! One gold tomorrow would satisfy Track Cycling, Sailing, all the team events, Equestrian and maybe the Tennis & Athletics remain our best chances Hockeyroos are making hard work of it against these plucky Kiwi's!

  20. Might be a bit tougher to get amongst the medals tomorrow but we are in with a chance in 3 Rowing Finals & the 100m Freestyle for Women. Saya Sakakibara could surprise in the BMX racing whilst Lucien Delfour is in with a chance in the K1 Canoe/Slalom
  21. Tough group we're in but hopefully we're able to eke out a win or 2 to advance Heard today that the Serbians are all fully professional ... doesn't surprise me as Water Polo is huge in the Eastern European Countries Where as our blokes are strictly part time and all have full time jobs!
  22. Thursday Schedule 8.50pm Water Polo Men's - Australia vs Serbia 10.15pm Hockey Women's - Australia vs New Zealand Friday Schedule 10.00am Athletics - Heats & Qualifications 10.33am Rowing Women's Single Sculls Final (Emma Twigg) 10.45am Rowing Men's Single Sculls Final 11.00am Cycling BMX Racing S/F's Men's/Women's (Saya Sakakibara) Finals at 12.40pm 11.00am Hockey Men's - Kookaburra's vs Spain 11.05am Rowing Women's Eights Final (Australia) 11.25am Rowing Men's Eights Final (Australia) 11.30am Rugby 7's Women - Australia vs USA 11.40am Swimming Women's 200 Breaststroke Final 11.50am Swimming Men's 200M Breaststroke Final 12.00pm Swimming Women's 100m Freestyle Final (Cate Campbell, Emma McKeon) 12.16pm Swimming Men's 200m IM Final 3.00pm Canoe/Slalom Men's K1 S/F (Lucien Delfour) Final at 5.00pm 4.00pm Beach Volleyball Women - Australia (Del Solar/Clancy) vs ROC 6.30pm Rugby 7's Women Q/Fs 8.00pm Athletics - Heats & Qualification 8.00pm Swimming - Heats 8.50pm Water Polo Women - Australia vs Spain 9.30pm Athletics Men's 10,000m Final (Patrick Tiernan) 10.00pm Basketball Women's - Opals vs China
  23. 2 More Gold Medals For Australia Izaac Stubblety-Cook 200m Breaststroke Champion Jessica Fox C1 Canoe Slalom Champion
  24. Jess Fox magnificent! So many variables in this sport where not everything is in the athlete's control So the athletes have to fight against bad luck as well. The field contained any number of world champions & Olympic medalists too A worthy winner!
  25. Yeah, Ariarna being saved for the 800m? She's got to be feeling the pinch but to win the triple would be some sort of achievement Wasn't all that fast on the opening leg by the audio call. She'd be in the red zone so I get that the coaches don't want to burn her But as you said, we still broke the world record and were simply beaten by 2 better teams on the day. No shame in that
