Another way to look at it is that how hard is it to win both the K1 & the C1 in this sport? There's always a bit of luck involved with Canoe/Slalom unlike some events where a pure technique & high ability can win out To watch it is nerve-racking enough but imagine the pressure at the top of the run! All that white water going every which way Previously, Jess wouldn't have had a second chance but in this Olympics we have both the C1 & the K1 Anyway, Jess will be doubly determined on Thursday if she gets through to the final, that's for sure
-
So close hey ... such a fine line between winning and not winning. Nerve racking sport to watch so I'm glad I was only listening in on audio! But Jess can make amends on Thursday in the C1. Anyway, I guess we had our hopes up but that's the roller-coaster of the Olympics A Gold medal is damn hard to attain. They don't hand them out
-
Thanks for all the updates TD ... much appreciated The Bronze meant a lot to Owen judging by the celebrations. Fierce competion so any medal is great reward Jess Fox has qualified first in the K1 Canoe/Slalom to be run shortly so fingers crossed

Olyroos did well to hang on for so long against Spain. Conceded late but 3 of our players have now been ruled out of the match against Egypt after receiving yellow cards Win against Egypt and we advance but draw and we may miss Although I'm not sure whether Argentina will hold out against Spain ... bit of a class difference as I see it And Harry Garside has advanced to the last 16 in the boxing (Lightweight division) He looked alright too, winning all 3 rounds. A southpaw with a bit of style Edit: Had a look at Harry Garside's profile and he won gold at the 2018 Commonwealth games and lists his hero as Jim Stynes ( Harry has done a bit of volunteer work for the Reach foundation) Can we assume that Harry is a Demon supporter?

I watched a reasonable amount of Ash's match and she wasn't on her game today So the surprises can work both ways as I had Ash as at least making the semi's ... but the Hockeyroos are off to a great start and our rowers are well placed. Beach Volleyball as well but the softballers had a close loss There are going to be some ups and downs ... bit of a rollercoaster really

Winners! The Womens 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay Champions
-
Gold!!! World Record in the Womens 4 x 100m Freestle Relay! 3 seconds clear of the rest of the world That was amazing!!
-
Elijah was disappointing and Mack Horton looking on might have fancied his chances Still, we weren't the raging favourite to take out the event so Jack taking out the silver is a mighty effort Not sure we are going to have it all our way in the 4 x 100m freestlyle relay (womens) ... should win but we've got some tough opposition who may not have shown their hand
-
He'll be better equipped in 3 years time TD ... out of contention for gold once they hit the breaststroke leg but as you said, flew home Rated 50th in the world 12 months ago so it's a meteoric rise. Needed the experience but that's ok A bronze medal is something to be proud of! Seeing we're on a new page ... Sunday Schedule (Notable Events) 10.00am Rowing: Semi's & Quarter's 11.00am Hockey: Hockeyroos vs Spain (previously listed as 8.00pm) 11.00am Softball: Australia vs USA 11.30am Swimming Final's & Semi's 12 Noon Tennis: Ash Barty vs Sorribes 1.00pm Womens Beach Volleyball: Aust vs Cuba 2.00pm Cycling: Womens Road Race 2.15pm Canoe Slalom: Mens & Women (Australia represented in both - Watkins & Nicholas) 4.00pm Diving: Womens Synchronised 3m Springboard Final 4.30pm Mens Waterpolo: Australia vs Montenegro 6.20pm Mens Basketball: Boomers vs Nigeria 7.30pm Hockey: Kookaburra's vs India 8.00pm Swimming: Heats 8.30pm Football: Olyroos vs Spain .

We had our chances but Sweden were the superior team ... I can see them winning the gold medal as they are very talented. Sam Kerr had a terrific game. That thunderbolt from Rolfe for them was amazing The top 2 from our group go through plus the 2 best 3rd placegetters out of the 7 groups. Next up is the USA and we might have to win the game to advance if the Americans are ahead on goal difference prior to the game starting (USA leads NZ 2-0 at half time)

Brendon Smith has qualified fastest for the 400IM Final to be raced tomorrow morning. Smashed his personal best Hope he gets a good night's sleep! He's a big chance after tonight's performance In the footy ... Demons battling away but we'll need to get a move on
-
Thanks for the updates and match summaries TD ... first class! Listening in on the SEN app (forgotten that the ABC aren't covering the games) And so far, SEN are doing a fine job crossing to the relevant sports when applicable. Overall updates very good as well
-
And the Kookaburra's have started off well leading 2-0 in the 2nd quarter Audio only now due to work committments but there's lots going on already! Edit: Now we're down 2-3 at half time Yikes!
-
Yes TD but the Opening Ceremony had its moments. A tad subdued but that's what I was expecting (all things considered) To me the highlights were the Global Drones combination, Hiromi's virtuoso performance, Lennons 'Imagine' well performed by various artists, the figurine forms representing the various sports and the lighting of the cauldron Compared to other Opening Ceremonies, it pailed, but circumstances did govern (no crowd interaction etc) The number of athletes represented was way down but that's quite understandable as well Tough one to grab the attention and they were probably never going to able to make the whole thing a memorable event (again, all things considered)

All of our rowing crews and singles advanced from their heats this morning so that's a good start But to add to the events to look out for over the weekend is the Cycling Mens Road Race at about 12noon Saturday Australia is represented by Like Durbridge, Lucas Hamilton & Richie Porte. There are any number of notable's competing including the Tour de France winner Tadej Pogacar
