  1. With Hartlett due to talk to Victorian clubs this week should we be seriously considering talking to him?

If we could/be willing to absorb his lengthy high priced contract would a second round pick (either this year or next) ANB and a swap of latter picks be in the ball park?

  2. It is not all about possessions and goals. In two high pressure finals Motlop laid three tackles. If the club decides to chase him I will fully back their decision as they know a lot more about building a playing list than I do, however my first inclination is to pass on Motlop.

  3. Whilst I share the worries about his fitness, I worked at Geelong between 2012-14 and watched him dominate both training and VFL games. He also had a couple of standout AFL games. If his body can stand up he has massive upside and plays a position where we have a hole in our list.

    What would he realistically cost?

Only on the football field. He never really used too, his twin sister stole all the grunt. But it's amazing how he can go from chillaxed to completely switched on as soon as he steps onto the grass. He used to be the kid who would pick the opposition off the ground before moving onto the net contest, but not any more.

Like earlier this year in Casey's second game v Collingwood which they lost, Dec cleared the ball at one stage and Aish, instead of trying to smother, went for Dec directly to try and take him out. Well Dec still got the clearance and Aish bounced off of him and landed on his back. Dec looked down, saw Aish, and immediately jumped on him. Really gave him a good hammering before being dragged off by 2 Collingwood players.

Don't think so. When he finished his preseason with Melbourne this year he had a meeting with Roosey and the coaching staff which basically said 'sorry but we don't really have a place for you.' That might've changed since then, but I doubt it.

Justin Plapp did tell us at the start of the year if Dec has a good year he will be drafted. We know for a fact the North Melbourne, Geelong and Essendon are looking at him, and the staff at Casey believe there is one or two more. He was invited to the state combine, and he did a day of testing with North at the end of last year where afterwards he was told they would be looking at him as a Rookie if he played VFL Seniors all year.

    Good info, cheers.

I am a little disappointed that we are not considering him, but would be happy for him to get an oppertunity at AFL level

  5. I will declare my bias off the bat, I have know Declan and his family for a long time and have followed his career very closely. He has had a fantastic year at Casey being voted VFL player of the month in June and culminating in being named in the VFL team of the year.

At 21, 195cm and 90+ kg, he has shown that he can more than hold down a key position and has battled manfully in the ruck when required this year.

He must be worth looking at either as a late pick or in the rookie draft.

Unfortunately I have not seen any Casey games live this year due to work commitments (I have watched a lot on TV/replay) can those how have seen him live shed any more light on Dec and his draft chances?

    I love this.

Can I ask where you sourced the stat from? A website?

Its a fantastic set of numbers isn't it. I asked Champaign Data on twitter, they promptly replied.

  7. We have all sat back and appreciated the season that Max Gawn has produced, but how about this for a stat:

The top 5 ruck/rover combinations in the comp this season

    50 - Gawn/Jones

    49 - Gawn/Viney

    47 - Gawn/Tyson

    42 - Naitanui/Priddis

    42 - Hickey/Armitage

  8. The big difference with the Roos/Goodwin handover is that when a new coach comes in they bring with them their favoured assistants and support staff, this will not be the case with us. There will be stability instead of wholesale changes. I have confidence that it will be so smooth that we will barely notice...except for the fact that we will play finals in 17

  9. I think Spencer should play. Allows Gawn to play more forward minutes and allows Watts to stay at home thus keeping our forward structure. Roos has said that he will reward VFL form and Jake has performed consistently well. Further to that I would also like ANB to play and be given the opportunity to play inside mid where he has dominated in the twos. I don't see the point in playing him forward or in a wing.

    Changes

    In: Frost, Spencer and ANB

    Out: White, Grimes, Kennedy

With N Jones and Vince rotating between HF and HB

  10. If and its a big if he passed all the medical testing I would entertain Vardy. Showed early doors pre hip and knee injuries that he could play. Would fill the presently vacant fwd/ruck roll and create some major headaches for opposition defenders. Furthermore I don't think he would cost a lot.

    imagine:

    Watts   Hogan  Petracca

    Kent     Vardy   Garlett

  11. I like the idea of Spencer in for Dawes. I understand that Dawes played on one of the outstanding defenders in Tahlia but yesterday he offered very little, he was not even able to break even on most occasions. Spencer and Gawn 50-50  ruck/forward would provide headaches for opposition. We have seen how dangerous Max can be forward and Spencer has been hitting the scoreboard semi regularly at VFL level.
