  1. I certainly have believed Melbourne should do everything it can do to persuade Mick Malthouse to come to Melbourne, although there is something about him that doesn't sit well with me. None the less football is football and you take what you can for some advantage. I have been intrigued by the shift in his conversation from that which we saw on the "footy show" which seemed to me to be saying, 'come and get me if you want me', to the conversation a few weeks later which became adamant that he was definitely staying at Collingwood. Yes of course there is a premiership to be won and it won't take much to make the 'colli' - wobble. So get rid of any distraction seems wise. However, could there be another thread working its way out in his mysterious mind. I have suggested elsewhere that there will be no positions available next year on current reading of coaching positons in Melbourne. Yes it is speculative. The most vulnerable will be Ratten. The blues are progressing well toward there peak, yet the bluebaggers just don't seen to be totally convinced about him. You get the feel that one significant slip and he's out. And who would they turn to? of course Mickey the Magpie. The Key to this is naturally Swan once a magpie now at the blues. He did it with Judd, ie created a shame process. I would bet my bottom dollar he has already been speaking to MM. The message would be clear. Quieten down, finish your year, you will be here with us, before you can say, "I'll show you Eddie".

A very good mate of mine is a Carlton supporter. He said to me not long ago that he thinks Mick Malthouse is a dick head but if he came to be coach of the Blues, he'd be a champion. I have a similar frame of mind.

  2. This is great news if it's correct. Clarko is a long term Option, and IMO that would be good to go with. Offer him Big $$$.

At Hawthorn, Hodge is over 27 years with an aging body, & Mitchell is nearing 29 yrs. They have some rebuilding ahead.

I hope We can convince Clarko to see our future.

Clarko and those two players are primed for another few years at the top and flags are likely. The Hawks have shown this year how much depth they have during the times that they were stretched with injury.

Clarkson has got his three year contract he wanted - case closed.

I'm not convinced an experienced senior coach is the answer either. I wish there was Scott triplets..

  3. I know we aren't supposed to compare the two as both are doing the job for their respective clubs, but the stats thus far make for interesting reading. Kicks Nik Nat 87- Jack 174, HB Nik Nat 135- Jack 142, Disposals NN 222- Jack 316, Marks NN 44 -Jack 109, Tackles NN 70 -Jack 45 ( a win to NN here!),Goals NN 12- Jack 20, DT points progressive total, NN 1290- Jack 1422. It is important too to remember that NN is in a team going well getting a lot of support and Jack is in a team really struggling with little or no support. Wattsy will be a real STAR that's for sure. Not so sure about NN. An average of 10 disposals per game is not too brilliant. Time will tell.

Cheers for the post BM. I got [censored]-on pretty bad Saturday night after the game by a room full of WCE supporters and they brought up the subject of comparisons.

Sure wish I had these figures at the ready.

IMO, Jack will blow Hurley and Natanui out the park for many years to come. Just love it when he practises blind turns on game day.. ;)

  4. Not even to mention financially it would be a pretty good deal compared to some of the other names! Spend more money on SPECIFIC coaches, Forward coach that can develop forward skills! Bring a senior assistant in Laidley or Ayres. Now that’s a coaching panel to be afraid of and to make your goal every game to do exactly what they preach to make life a bit easier on yourself as a player of this gruelling game.

    Agreed.

    BTW, interesting post.

  5. I've had enough.

I've had enough of players who can't kick, can't handball, can't mark, can't gut run. Simple football stuff.

They just stand stand still like witches hats. The occasional jog by Moloney. Sylvia all muscle no heart.

McDonald & Jones trying to break tackles. They play backyard football.

Tapscott - go back to Casey and learn how to be accountable.

Martin, Petterd, Davey, Rivers, Jurrah, Garland, Green all do the good occasional thing. So what? Same inconsistent crud for years.

Jamar who believes in his own hype. One year of football doesn't make you a good player.

Brad Green captain?? He's never been a leader. Weak choice.

Bate, Newton, Morton, Dunn, Bartram - who drafted these spuds??

A broom needs to go through the MFC - CEO, football & recruitment staff, fitness & weights staff, whinging front-running players. Recruit premiership experienced staff only. Period.

I give up until real change happens.

I doubt you were ever on board with a rubbish thread like this one, mate.

  6. Fev has proven to be toxic to two AFL clubs now and let's be honest, he never really set the stage on fire at the Lions before it all started to fall apart again.

Melbourne does not the media coverage/circus that would surround Fevola if he returned to AFL ranks.

He might be able to kick a goal but when it's all said and done, he's an absolute dead-sh*t that would add no long term value to the club. As other posters have commented, we have to move forward with the potential shown from our draftee's, not a bloody has-been like Fev.

    Get real.

  7. Could be saying the same thing about gaff in a year or two.

Davey is in big rut at the moment and needs to find something but trade? Come on!

The guy wasn't offered a 4 year contract for nothing. He can play. How bout we chase some quality midfield talent to complement the skills we know Davey possesses and stop looking at speculative young players to trade our proven yet unsupported performers out for.

Aaron Davey has to re-learn how to get his own ball and not rely on other team mates making him look good.

He seriously needs to pull his finger and lead from the front. Saying that he should be demoted along with Brad Green.

  8. Did Geischen make mention of the tackle where 2 Melbourne players were being held (one clearly high) by one Carlton player? Neither demon appeared to have clean possession of the ball. I think they got a goal from that one too.

Yeah, just on the point of the goal square.

    Unbelievable..

  9. I care more for Jim Stynes than winning the next four games for him. I hope they win but i dont connect the two issues.

Put yourself in his shoes. The team you love getting a win this week wouldn't give you joy and make you feel a little better - emotionally?

    You're confused mate.

  10. I hope not. Not because I don't think he could be captain, but because I'd like to think the new coach would expect to be involved in decisions such as who should be the captain. Or, to put it another way, why would you want to put your hand up to be the senior coach when decisions like this are made without your contribution?

Fair point and I have no idea how the decision making criteria is weighted at the club. I would think in the current circumstance a new coach coming from outside the club would have limited input?

Maybe Todd had something to do with it...
