Unfortunately we’re now all conditioned to and can’t wait for the regular season to kick off end of March. I can’t imagine how I’d cope if I had to wait another 4 weeks. It’d take some getting used to.

$1 million per game? Wow. I can recall a figure of around the $400k mark for some reason and that was a few years ago. What sort of gate would we get from a blockbuster home game at the G?

Niall and the rest of them can analyse the [censored] out of fixtures. It earns them a salary. However, this competition will only be fair and just when each of the 18 clubs plays each other once, in order to qualify for the finals program - whatever that might turn out to be. Until then, the fixture is flawed and a money making venture more than it is a reflection of last years clubs performance. As noted by others, if we continue our upward projection we should be a strong contender for the flag no matter what the fixture deals out. The commercial side of it is great and a very important variable in club success so it’s pleasing to see the potential in that for season 2019. We need to perform for it to come into fruition however.

The big freeze is synonymous with the QB game. It's a stand alone game on a Public holiday so anyone can attend. I can understand the sentiment with Essendon but that in itself would have to become another separate 'blockbuster' game they're involved in on top of Anzac day and dreamtime games. It's currently a moving target and trying to find another date/PH for a stand alone will be difficult for the AFL. I very much doubt it will change.
-
Yep and that little anomaly of copping the Wednesday evening Anzac game will happen every 6 or 7 years. I guess the fair and reasonable thing would be to fixture our game on the Thursday or Friday but they've awarded that to Pies and Bombers.
-
Exactly. Geelong are no longer a powerhouse and we're no longer a basket case that will be flogged. It's a shame there's a lack of seats there that affects our support base but as far as winning or losing goes, we go in as favourites.
-
That's your off-season MFCSS kicking in. Back on your meds.
-
WTF? Looks like we're playing a Saturday game (and Tiges for that matter) and then need to back it up on the Wednesday for Anzac eve but the Pies and Bombers have been given extra 1 and 2 days recovery time for their Anzac day game.. I was certain we'd get a Friday game this round but I guess you've got to wear it every now and then if you want an Anzac fixture.

It wouldn’t be a decision taken lightly and most likely would’ve been analysed by all levels of the clubs admin - the pros outweighing the cons. Anyway, it sure beats going to China.
-
It will be 8 days when we play QB on Monday 10th June.
-
That is uncanny.
-
Planning on doing my first Alice trip this year too, Jim.
-
My Port supporting mate Dave has heard JW will be caddying for Tiger Woods next year.
-
Very sad to hear.

I was thinking only Melbourne listed players but I like this.... much greater scope now. ?? It’s open slather for the whole AFL, players, coaches, administrators, et al.
-
Prompted by the nicknames thread and for an off-season laugh, who can you see similarities in from the listed players? I'll kick it off with Christian Petracca and Hymie from Get Smart.
-
It’s at the G which is great but fair dinkum I’m still pretty deflated by this. Bloody Port.

Demonland Podcast with Josh Mahoney TONIGHT 14/11 @ 8:30pm
McQueen replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'd like some closure on the Gaff chase. If you could broach that with asking "did we withdraw because Gaff wasn't interested in the role Goodwin had envisaged for him" (as per ProDee input) and do we now have an eye on Josh Kelly. I appreciate in advance that this will probably be flat batted but I hope he can give us fanatic's a little more than he did the media at the time. Thanks -
I fly into Timika Monday morning. Unfortunately, not for diving.

This is just my opinion but the bloke comes across as someone who likes the idea and accompanying ‘fame’ of being on an AFL list. Seems like the type of character we’re trying to dispel from club culture. Not interested.
-
It goes against the ethos the club is currently and successfully developing. "We're glad he's gone" are pretty strong words.

I find this really unprofessional from an 'assistant coach' to make this statement, if true of course.
