  1. He is a bit over rated by many IMO steve. Viney for Tyson when fit. Frost for Wags. Watts for Stretch. That will be our best line up for finals if we make it.
  2. We failed to slow the game down at that point though SW and should have (about 15 or so to go). We then tried to with about 5 minutes to go instead with only a slight lead and nearly lost the match as a result. We still have a bit to learn i reckon re; when it's time to play fast or slow.
  3. He occasionaly has an off game or two but even when playing average he is involved in so many scoring chains that often go unoticed by the masses. It's no co-incidence thar we win more often when he is playing. Not a superstar but he rarely fails to impact on the scoreboard, either directly or indirectly through assists. These are the blokes that make a diff on big games as they arent flashy but just do the job and help out. Great clubman. Keep unless or until his time is well up and someone else can push him out. No diff to anyone else
  4. Chook was correct ....there are two...but only when he is ON!
  5. Yes....shouldve been wrapped up at the end of the 3rd though. Umps and our usual 'go missing for a whole quarter'
  6. Seriously not sure why we re-signed Weids but hope to be proven wrong....just never looks like it at this level
  7. PEDOs best game for the year maybe!
  8. Hannan's desperation and keen eye for goal to the rescue! He is a genuine forward
  9. Crazy throw by Gilbert ignored!!!
  10. This also! ^^ potential season ending selections with those two Ins
  11. Goody's plus 2 down back is costing us big time up forward and around ground general stoppage. Goody refuses to start these extras around the pill or man up up forward, handing the numbers up forward and clearance contest to the opposition....week after week. Struggling to beat ordinary clubs as a result!
  12. Wags is a very ordinary footballer.....not sure how he is in this team at any stage right now
  13. Where are our forwards.....always outnumbered and no Jeffy!!???
  14. Looks like Razor Ray and AFL cronies definitely don't want us playing finals.....much prefer an Etihad based club!
  15. Spencil is no certainty to play at this stage
  16. The 3 Pie supporters behind me who said the same and worse on QB say hello Petracc! He may have deserved it but at his best he is also a potential match winner. Wagner and Weids (at this point in his career) in the same team doesn't instill me with much confidence for a win this week. Maynard deserved a place ahead of Tyson whose 'VFL standard' decision making, speed and ball skills cost us dearly in that first half last week.
  17. And that's another critical point DJ, by the time those extras have provided the outside run or gotten to the contest off HB, assuming the ball is in dispute or we then win the contest via these extra numbers, by the time this occurs the Opp will have enough time to flood numbers back much of the time. We are also not the greatest delivery team coming i50 anyway so the value of our long bombs will surely pay off on the scoreboard more often if there are less numbers up forward to pressure our attempts at marking and shooting for goal with more one on one passages. Less numbers i50 and a quicker entry would surely suit Jeffy more also. He has been strangled the last few weeks with pretty much no room to move and work his magic with the time they've had to set up and flood.
  18. Count me in Clint, or at the very least no worse than alongside (lateral) of the bounce/stoppage. Cats 2007, 2009, 2011 silverware.... top 4 this year and a chance. I can't help but see this set up as more defensive than offensive. I would rather back my mid field, provided i rate them when they're on the park and fit (which i do....we are easily top 6 material in the mid field IMO but presently sitting in 10th position) and have a player lateral and/or pushing up as an extra high forward option for the over the top HB or short pass or alternatively as a cheap marking option for the short pressured shallow kick i50.
  19. GT you are assuming they always run forward quickly into the contest or to provide an option around the periphery of the contest....and get there in a timely manner. Im not sure players being used in this aspect are capable of doing that all of the time allowing us to match the opposition who are probably feeding theirs in off the boundary side of the square and getting into the position their mid field inside clearance players want them to be, a tad quicker than ours for the outside recieve IMO. Running extras off HB can also be easily negated as well if you push the ball back towards your sweeper (your own goal side) who then feeds it outside and shoots the pill over the top over the heads of those one or two oncoming extras, who are now in no mans land and helping no one....as Buck has also described nicely below and expanded on further.....
  20. And that's my point. We are initially at least one (maybe two) players down.....on the periphery, to assist with effective and quick clearances i50. Instead we give this potential short term advantage up to our opponents preferring instead to rely on the slower counter off HB!
  21. RP regardless of where they are coming from we still start with 2 extra behind the drop of the ball at the start of every quarter and from my observation Goody continues with this strat during most center bounces within quarters also. Aren't we taking away from our biggest strength (our mid field) by allowing our opponent to gain an extra number or two, even if only a tad earlier, at many stoppages? Surely a leg up to our opponent and one they would be happy to take all day every day giving them early momentum also as well as potentially more quick entries i50 and more opportunities to score!??
  22. Guys with Goody persisting with this strategy all year i am interested in other's views here. We've had to come from behind too often against lessor rated opponents (at the time) IMO, often ending in close results. Not all of them to our gain. Some examples.....The Pies (W), Freo (L) and Norf (L) just to name a few off the top of my head. If we win two of those losses (and IMO we should have won them convincingly) we would now be sitting firmly entrenched in the 8. It is my opinion that we are down early in too many matches (at least by half time), when we should have been well up, especially against lessor rated (or out of form) teams at the time we played them and i believe a significant reason for this (but not the only one obviously) is Goody persisting with starting plus 2 behind the ball! I don't mind this strat when looking to defend a lead late in a quarter or match, but to persist with it for most quarters during a match AT THE START of each quarter?? Surely not. In my opinion our greatest strength, when we have most available and fit, is our mid field. Yet we allow our opponents to gain an extra number or two around many stoppages which allows them to negate this strength much of the time by throwing 2 behind the ball. They usually also end up winning the clearances or at least matching us as a result, although i havent checked the numbers. This is purely based on what i've been seeing. Goody obviously prefers the counter but IMO playing this game style limits our ability to win more center and/or mid field stoppage clearances, and prevents us getting the ball into our forward 50 quickly. We are then seeing more opposition numbers in our forward line as a result, placing our forwards under more pressure when trying to shoot. Relying mostly on the counter to score, we allow our opponents to get numbers behind the ball too easily and also place pressure on ourselves as there's usually no stay at home forward under Goody's game style and no one to kick to when we do find a way to fast break through lines on the counter. We are then forced to wait and or kick latterly or behind, often resulting in a turnover. Relying too much on the counter also allows opponent defenders to easily leave their man and kill the ball. We also don't have a genuine tall that can take advantage of so many long bombs that we are accustomed to seeing from many of our entries. Teams like Sydney, Adelaide and West Coast can get away with a little more bombing as they have this tall talent. Terry Wallace always says...."you have to take something away from your opponent when you play footy if you are going to give yourself a chance of winning". It would seem in our case, we may well be giving our opponent that advantage right from the first bounce! Good luck winning with a disadvantage, giving a free hit to your opponent from the start of every bounce! So am i out on a limb on this? Or do other D'landers see this is a significant issue that is impacting our ability to win more often and potentially our ability to play our first finals series in 11 years?
  23. Outside of Hannan, surely they cant be serious about any of the other ins. If so the Saints will be licking their chops. While i'm happy to see Brayshaw named and on the recovery trail and Ben Ken pushing for his first selection for the year, the others named have shown nothing at senior level when given a chance this year and are just too far off it to worry any decent opposition. All their selection will do will give the opposition more confidence. A pitty Vanders was unable to get back. Miss his hardness and pressure up forward and provides another occasional avenue to goal. And if Spencil wasn't picked in the last 4 weeks or so, with Maxy terribly out of form and especially as an ideal crash/bash foil for Mummy last week IMO, then he basically has no chance of ever getting selected unless Maxy goes down again. Should be on the trade table at years end as he is just clogging the list going forward. Should have been played for Maxy's first two matches back also. Maxy was far from ready and severely under done and needed at least a game and a half at Casey to find some form and match fitness prior to returning.
