The Incredible Hulk - Jesse Hogan
I don't think he was ever "not on track" PJ. Was just the frustration of wanting to be at a certain level all of the time. And then not letting his opponents see that frustration too much a la the match against the Bombers. That match was really the only "off" game so far and he had a few partners that day. The boys are on track and their improvement is showing on the scoreboard. The fact that we are currently ranked 6th in team goal averages is in no small part to his efforts and the ethos, belief, hard work ethic and leadership traits that Roos is instilling into this team. One week at a time though Demons!

The Incredible Hulk - Jesse Hogan
Yeh he was needing to be moe than a goal square sitter or moving around the 40 meter area. Still has a way to go in terms of knowing when to place himself higher up the ground when opponents are coming in under pressure from HB thru mid or wide (when he's sitting back there and not playing high). Doesn't read this part too well yet. WIll improve with experience and coaching here so just a matter of time and more games. Recall Brad Green doing the same in his first season or 2. Looks very comfortable and solid decision maker when up the ground so why not go there and take his opponent out of his comfort zone. Big body to have roaming around other mids also. Footsteps.

Demon Cheersquad, Late 80's
Must have been late 70s. I recall our cheer squad being pretty big In very early 70s. Bro and me (too a lessor degree as a little tacka) were even In a small unofficial one In the 2nd tier of the southern stand. Small banners, floggers etc.

The Incredible Hulk - Jesse Hogan
His frustration is a combination of poor delivery at times, being restricted as he at tempts to move off the mark for the lead and not quite knowing or being capable of making separation from bigger/just as agile/stronger opponents (like Davis at this point). The Hulk/Club will hopefully address these in time. Bigger opponents ...can work on this with the assistance of an experienced forward who can show him the way to run patterns/make separation early and lead into space more often. At the moment Jesse often leads his opponent to the ball (without losing him early) hoping his ability/talent/skill at the contest will win the day. This will work some of the time at AFL level but not as much of the time as it may have at VFL/More junior levels. IMO this is where the main frustration lies and we quickly need to get the likes of Derm or Carey down their to show him the tricks of the trade in losing his opponent much earlier before leading and where to lead to/other patterns/hard work required to get the pill/u contested mark more often. A combinatin of extra strength/agility work in the gym over the next few seasons will see him take it to another level.... subject to the above happening.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CLAYTON OLIVER
Exciting debut with poise, nice finish, a little flair. Solid overhead and also lays a nice tackle! Would play him round one off the bench. Too good for anywhere else albeit he will need occasional breaks to recover from rigours of AFL. If we can get Brayshaw back on the park and Petracca debuts cleanly (touch wood), this could finally be a reasonable year for this club. Not to mention the Hulksta

Delistings/trades at end of the season
Only just I think Jumbo. Glad you enjoyed although I'm a tad concerned as I'm doing it out of boredom mostly. Hopefully your weekends aren't this boring. In the end they are only stats Jumbo and in some cases not the sort the coaches would bother with too much anyways. Some of them are half decent though like uncontested which might give us keyboard warriors a rough guide as to who is spreading well etc. Tackles not too bad as a rough "pressure act" guide etc. I really wld love to see the juicy stuff from champion though such as "pressure acts", "turnovers inside 50 from pressure acts", "goals from link up play" (I forget what it's called but gives you a guide as to who has the most involvement in passages of play that result in goals eg, Harvey was one of the highest last year being involved in something like a massive 36% of link play that resulted in goals. Coaches love this stuff and is usually highlighted to them by their review crew for up coming match ups etc). Kicking efficiency is another I'd love to see. Anyway we aren't going to get the good stuff so just have to use what we have as a rough guide. RPFC is doing some great work with differentials in uncontested etc at a team level which is a great guide to how we are performing vs the rest of the comp. Not sure if you've taken a look. In the end though you get a much better feel from seeing what's taking place obviously. And as OD would often remind us, at the end of the day the only stat that matters is the scoreboard silly!

Delistings/trades at end of the season
Agreed. I have heard some of the past veteran players in the media bandy 60 - 80 games as a rough guide before judging how a new player is rolling. The trouble is though Samael, our list runs very shallow so in many other clubs the depth players or new rookies do their apprenticeship in the VFL for a few years and have to fight like hell before they get a look in at senior level. By then the powers that be have had a fair crack at seeing what type of standard they might be getting as well as years playing the style of game that's needed to break into the seniors under the guide of their VFL affiliate club/coach. I'm not sure we have any such luxuries with our Casey connection or our extremely shallow list. And I suspect it's been this way for as long as the AFL dumped the reserves (for us anyway).

Fair point and he has only played 20 odd matches. They say big fellas take longer to come on as well. We do hav to sort out our big man dept though as we have 4 on the list. 3 if you assume its the Russians swan song. But then 4 again if we include King in the mix.
