  1. It wasn’t about money or length of contract. Bedford wanted game time which is something he was struggling to get at Melbourne and obviously GWS were able to promise him a spot in their best 22. We will keep losing good young players if we don’t reward them with game time. Poor kid I hope he makes a speedy recovery. He’s a very talented young man and deserves a good career.
  2. He is basically our best forward, so if he has anything serious going on we are stuffed. Fingers crossed just precaution.
  3. I have no allegiance to Casey. I would support Melbourne whether the home base was in Richmond, Cranbourne, Frankston or Werribee. Because I am not a fickle snob who thinks our club has to stay connected to the rich white inner city suburbs of Melbourne, which are becoming less and less attainable to 90% of the population of Melbourne, including Melbourne supporters. My only concern is to get our club a home base, and the reality is that getting one in inner Melbourne is looking less and less likely to happen. We need to look outside the box or we will end up homeless for another 3 decades. That is just the reality. If we could get a home base in inner Melbourne, it would have happened by now. It hasn't. Time to look elsewhere, or stop complaining about a lack of home base. You can't have it both ways it seems.
  4. How many people have we converted in inner Melbourne? Do you have data on that? When was the last time anyone with deep family roots in a footy club has switched teams? Do you really think that having a home close to the MCG will help us gain new members? You might get a few international students, but they are often not here for long and might come along to a few games for the novelty. Immigrants with kids who go to schools in the Casey area are much more likely to get involved with a footy team. Every school has footy days and footy clinics. Most immigrants in the Casey area are from India and surrounding areas. They are not in any way shape or form devoted to soccer. They would be happy to follow a winter sport when Cricket isn't on. Likewise there are loads of young couples buying new house and land packages out Casey way. Young couples who plan on having kids. Kids who then go to school and get influenced to follow a team that just so happens to be located close to home. Not many young couples can afford to buy or even raise young kids in inner city Melbourne anymore.
  5. And how many commission houses and immigrants are there in St Kilda, Prahran, Richmond, Flemington? I don't know what is so wrong with immigrants. You are much more likely to get them converted to support the Dees, than people who have been in Melbourne for 3 generations and already have a footy side. I migrated to Australia at 12 and had no footy team. Melbourne did a footy clinic at my school, and my Dad and I are going on 25+ years of membership with the club as a result. Our supporter base is old. Lack of success for 5 decades does that. If we don't move with the times and go where the people are, and just keep servicing the old generation of Melbourne fans who might live in and around Toorak, our club will die a very slow and painful death.
  6. The start time is not ideal for the 99% of supporters who have to work for a living 😐
  7. You literally have no idea what you are talking about. It is actually pathetic for you to degrade an area you know nothing about. Low income families are buying million dollar houses are they? I live 15 mins from Casey and most houses here sell for over a million on a bad day. Casey is about 20 minutes from the Peninsula which is one of the most expensive areas in Melbourne. Please stop letting your clear snobbery get in the way of the truth.
  8. I think the lack of spectators has a lot more to do with Melbourne supporters as a whole rather than the location. Melbourne supporters don't even turn up to games at the MCG when we are top 2, let alone pre season games. The area where Casey is located is not that horrible, granted there is no train, but there are several shops very close by, and there is a giant opportunity to develop the area. Have you seen where the Hawks are building the Kennedy Centre? That is one hell of a dump. There is nothing there either. We can either keep waiting around for years in some deluded hope that we can get an inner city location, or we can work with what we have and use the opportunity to develop and grow the area. Why not use some of the funds from the sale of the Bentleigh Club to create a facility out in Casey that also accommodates shops and cafes and enjoy long term income streams from renting the spaces out? There is nothing stopping us from thinking outside the box here, except our own stubbornness.
  9. How many players live in the CBD? And I am sure the Saints players envy our players' recent premiership medal and the fact that our coach isn't Ross Lyon... Absolute [censored]. I live in Casey. We have 3 neighbours on our street alone who are all Melbourne supporters. The trains on the Pakenham and Cranbourne lines to and from the footy are always full. Casey is also one of the fastest growing regions in Melbourne. There is so much opportunity to get new members and supporters on board. Especially around the Clyde area which has a large population of immigrants. This endless obsession with being next door to the MCG is holding us back from getting the home base we really want and need.
  10. The reality is that neither Brown nor TMac are a strong chance to play all 23 H&A games. It's just not going to happen. Brown's knee will require resting and management, and if you listen to the podcast with TMac you'll hear him say that his foot is basically in pain every day and he is managing it. Just because JVR doesn't play round 1, doesn't mean he won't get plenty of game time this season. If we haven't learnt to REST our most important players after last season, then we've learnt nothing at all. Great to finish top 2, bad to finish top 2 with 80% of your list struggling to play out a game.
  11. It’s honestly hard to care or feel for him when he has gone out of his way to be as arrogant and as insufferable as possible. And when they came for him, he cried about it. Talented kid, who should let his footy do the talking and stop drawing unnecessary attention to himself. Or it won’t end well.
  12. I love that yogurt. Can we get a discount on it as Dees fans? It's super pricey when not on special 😅
  13. I think the club has acknowledged that they need to be a little less rigid with best 22 and actually give some young players a go. Of course we don't want that interfering with our main goal of winning the flag, but we wasted a golden opportunity last year when 10-0 to rest some of our best 22 and by not doing that we limped over the line and dropped out in straight sets with a list who could barely walk, and without any ideas about what our younger players are capable of at AFL level. We need to be really balanced and thoughtful about our young players. A lot of them are good enough and shown enough to debut. If we don't give them opportunities they will leave and we will end up with a list that is far too top heavy in age.
  14. Can’t be much worse…
  15. Did he used his bad hand to shake yours? TELL ME EVERYTHING!
  16. Could be Covid if it’s a sudden disappearance and he didn’t make the trip up?
  17. Anyone who has or knows someone who has a thyroid condition would know how tricky it is to get the medication dosage right. It requires heaps of tweaks and monitoring to get perfect. And just because he's had it before doesn't mean the same dosage would work again. My assumption is that he's been on some form of medication since he got diagnosed years ago, because a thyroid doesn't just heal itself over time, and that medication dosage is no longer being effective. That means tweaking the dosage and doing repeated blood tests to check that the levels are correct. It can takes a long time to get right or you can get lucky and get it right straight away. But given he's an athlete who puts his body under major stress every day, I don't think they'll risk it. It can be really serious if poorly mismanaged, and impact his life well beyond footy.

You do realise that players who live on the Mornington Peninsula for example spend more time getting to AAMI park than Casey? Players live all over the city. For some Casey is more easily accessible and for others it is not. Not every player wants to drive in peak hour into the city. We are all keen to get a top notch facility for our club as close to the MCG as possible, but the reality is that most of our players don't live next door to Richmond so most don't care about the drive to Casey. All they want is top quality facilities like every other club.
  19. Definitely what the go is with Oliver and how long it's expected this hand is going to take to heal properly.
  20. Brayshaw is another option, but he clearly doesn't have the disposal skills of Salem. Bowey is definitely the best option. Hopefully they sort this out quickly because Salem is a class player who is vital to our backline.
  21. Just a beautiful human
  22. 100%. An organization as big as MFC would use a multi platform application that automatically posts to all its social media accounts from a single point of posting. No chance somebody is logging in manually to FB, Twitter, Insta and TikTok and making updates separately. If they are, it’s no wonder our social media is so bad. It literally takes 1 second to update these things, and it’s really not good enough that it wasn’t done in a timely manner. Surely someone on DL has some connections at the club and can pass along this stuff up for future rectification. It is not much to ask.
  23. This really is very disappointing. I understand last minute changes, but it's not like they didn't know early enough to inform the players. If they can inform the players they can surely post a message on social media at the same time. There are literally a million 20 something year olds who are dominating social media right now. How hard would it be to hire someone to really get that side of the club up and running properly? Hell I am sure you could find some mad Dees fans who would even do it on the cheap or in return for some inside access to the club.
  24. Listen if I need to move his grandma, dog breeder, best friend and cousin into my house to help Kosi sign with us long term, I am more than happy to kick the kids out and move them in Just make it happen Dees.
