Has had a really bad season to date. Not sure if the change of wing is the cause.

I haven’t barracked for Geelong since I was born and I won’t barrack for them until the day that I die. If they win by a point today and lose 22 players to injury I would rejoice as it will be a win win.

North are competing with Melbourne for the decade from hell. They cannot do anything right and cannot take a trick. My Swans supporting friend is at the game. Said s young North fan next to them is bawling their eyes out. It’s just so heartbreaking because you know what that feels like!

But Petty has been playing forward. Turner needs to come in as a third tall. The issue is that he isn’t that big. He got smashed by Casboult in one on ones. So he either comes in to play the Lever role, or he comes in to play on a more agile player. Petty as a defender is very physically strong and has the height to go with most key forwards. So he isn’t really a replacement for Petty down back.

Will 100% get a week for that. The AFL will say he chose to bump and needed to stand back and let his opponent have a free run at the football.

With that I can’t argue. The AFL is a pathetic organization and without Melbourne in the competition I wouldn’t watch a game or spend a dime of my money on it ever again. The umpiring is a consistent problem. It’s always bad. Sometimes it’s diabolical and sometimes it impacts the result. It definitely went our way early and then Port got it all going their way. Still, play better in the first half and we win. Umpires or not.

It only works when you have players at the drop of the ball to get the ball when it hits the deck. Melbourne players that is.

You can’t blame the umpires when you’re going 0-10 in clearances and letting damaging opponents rack up 40 touches. You can’t blame the umpires for JVR hitting Finlayson high or giving away a high free kick in a tackle. You can’t blame the umpires for May kicking out to the same spot every time, nobody taking the mark, and yet nobody staying down to contest the ground ball. No umpire is to blame for that. We lost because they were better for longer. One good quarter of football isn’t enough to win games against quality sides.

Yes the umpiring was putrid. What else is new in an away game? Happens every week We should never have even been in the contest after that first half. We are very far behind the ball right now and we need to reset. A list as talented as ours putting out these types of performances against other quality sides, is a real worry. It’s becoming a trend.

Poor coaching and poor team selection. And an even poorer performance from our midfield. And let’s not mention our leaders. Gawn, Viney, Lever, Gus all missing in action. If it wasn’t for Petracca going into beast mode, we would have lost by 6+ goals.

Anyone who will blame the umpiring for this loss is simple papering over the very obvious cracks. You don’t play an insipid and soft first half against a top 4 side on their home ground and win.

You can’t blame the umpires. We lost this.

We only have ourselves to blame. You can’t play one good quarter and win.
