  1. You never know about his kicking - luckily it's a skill that can be taught compared with the aggression and mongrel that he has, which cannot be taught. Nathan Jones struggled to hit a target early in his career and now he rarely wastes the ball. Plenty of time for Jack to work on that but bloody hell, I'm loving what he's producing so far. We'll have the best midfield in the league in 3 years, mark my words.
  2. Just look at our last two games - couldn't break out of the back half for significant amounts of time at crucial points of the game, the fourth quarter against both Collingwood and the Saints. We need players who can kick the ball to be able to break through opposition presses, and we don't have enough of those players.
  3. I would hope that we look to trade our first pick again, as there should be some good quality players available. If not, draft the best player we can with our pick.
  4. I agree that we are a couple of players away before we really have enough grunt in the middle, but we can't just focus on one aspect of building a side and ignore the other. There's nothing wrong with picking up Suckling and also going for one or two bigger bodied, inside midfielders.
  5. If he's a free agent, we still have to make him a money offer.
  6. I wouldn't have called Suckling soft and cannot remember any instances where he has appeared so? Is slim which people often associate with softness, but I haven't seen anything untoward. But he isn't someone I'd want us to give a lot to get.
  7. Matt Suckling of the Hawks is OOC and has put off talks. Would be a nice pick up for the right price - deadliest foot in the league.
  8. Unfortunately we don't really have the luxury to develop players for that long in our position, IMO.
  9. I don't see any reason as to why we wouldn't have a good go at picking him up. Fits our needs right now. But our needs are pretty much everywhere.
  10. Lachie Henderson would be a good get, IMO. Flexible, good pair of hands and would compliment Hogan and Pedersen up forward, with the ability to swing back.
  11. Back in the days when anything seemed possible, Luke 'Bull' Tapscott gave Rhys Shaw one mighty shoulder in the chest (and I believe) broke some of his ribs. Luckily Viney delivers this kind of behaviour on a consistent basis.
  12. The extremely frustrating thing is that this is an all too familiar pattern. He has some very good traits, most notably time in the contest and amazing awareness, but as you say his form fluctuates wildly. He tantalises with a patch of good games every single year and has the equipment to be an amazing player. My feelings toward Watts fluctuate like his performances - sometimes I'll scream for him to be traded and other times I kind of like him. There is no doubt that if he can get it together for a period of time, he's a player that we really need to hold onto. At this stage, all we can do is hope that Roos, McCartney and co have gotten through to him and he consistently performs like he did last night. If he does, people will forget the first part of his career fairly quickly I think, much the same as happened with Goddard.
  13. Deserved it more this week, but players can only receive one nomination.
  14. You're all doom and gloom olisik. He'll be right mate.
  15. Much of the delivery was landing right on top of the forwards heads, just like last week. If it was a bit better I think you're right, he would have kicked a few more.
  16. I'm interested in him as a prospect but he's hardly set the world on fire. Wouldn't want to part with much to get him, although we could be in a good position to low ball Brisbane as he's OOC. Edit: Statistically, last season wasn't bad for him at all, and he is only 19 and 7 months according to footywire.
  17. Bird could be a good suggestion. Hard nosed and hard working (I think?) player pushed out of a very good midfield. We could do much worse.
  18. It's a harsh view to take, but sometimes I feel as though Watts really embodies the mental scars. Even more than that, they were branded upon him by the club, in the darkest days through which his whole career has been. I don't think he'll ever have a successful career with us and he is not the only one (of course). We need to send him onwards with the others and get what we can for them, which will be mostly just list space. Continue to turn the list over, and it has been working the last couple of years with Taylor and co nailing the picks and the trades.
  19. No to Toumpas, Hunt, Michie, Garland and Dunn. The rest I'd happily be done with if we can find better replacements, most by delisting and hopefully a trade for Howe if he doesn't pull his finger out. To add to that, I think Cross will probably retire.
  20. Max Rooke! Now he was a great, no nonsense player. Loved him.
  21. Great game from VB and a really good start to the season. Dare I say it, Michael Barlow come again? Hope no one else has said that yet...
  22. I'm extremely happy to see the names we called out this year, however - those saying 'this is our best draft ever/in a long time' - that is impossible to tell at this stage, and impossible to tell for at least a couple of years until we see the kinds of players these highly touted youngsters become. It looks good at this stage, but some need to keep a lid on it, plz. For all we know these two could be the next Scully/Trengove combo.
  23. Fantastic to see Misbah's innings. I never thought we'd win this series but I don't think we should be taking too much out of it. These conditions won't be faced very often. Although this is the case, we really, REALLY need to work on playing spin bowling. Steve Smith is the only player that looks relatively comfortable facing Babar, Shah and Hafeez.
  24. Davey Warner looking very dangerous at the moment and I have to say, Younus and Sarfraz's centuries in Pakistan's innings were really great, for different reasons.
  25. I think this series has serious upset written all over it. They'll have to fight hard to win this.
