  1. You realise that Ben Simmons is a point guard traditionally around 6 foot to 6 foot 3 inches, his athleticism is the reason he is able to play the position so maybe Goodwin is convinced Luke can play as a midfielder, is he breaking the mold like Norm Smith?

When Norm Smith played Ron Barassi as a ruckrover he changed the traditional ruck combinations where there was 2 ruckmen and 1 rover.

Still praying this is how it went down:

GWS want assurance from us we won't bid on Green before trading for pick 4. We say "ok we won't bid, but you gotta promise not to pick Young or Sydney's preferred player, and Sydney, you gotta promise not to pick Young or bid on Green." A trade of words if you will.

We then go to Freo who want to trade for 8 and say "alright we'll only do the trade if you promise not to pick Young or Carlton's player, and Carlton in return also can't pick Young".

Maybe we got Adelaide involved as well. And BAM Young gets to pick 10.... I can dream.

You realise if this was done the AFL (draft tampering) would eventually find out because loose lips sink ships (someone will boast about it) and the clubs which did this would be fined and may also loose draft picks in the future.

  3. When a recruiter has picks 3 and 10 he has to pick the best players not any positional best selections that is why players like Moylan and Cook got selected because the recruiter was asked for the best players in a particular position and we ended up Molan who had injuries which crueled his development but there was no excuse for Cook who was just tall and playing against midgets made him look good.

  4. I will clarify for all those who have some idea what the words see means actually being there and able to understand what is going baby boomer at 2 would not be able to do that and I arrived in Australia at 3 years of age in 1949 therefore I could never see the 1948 grand finals let alone comprehend what football was children born in the early 30's would have seen 10.

  5. The first grand final I went to was the 1954 and was heartbroken we lost to my best friends Footscray but from then on we were easily the best team in the VFL, Roger Dean's acting performance cost us another premiership, and the 1958 grand final was a Norm Smith error (players told me he admitted this after the game), when he was expecting a wet weekend and trained the players on thursday night before the grand final for 2 hours in the wet.

  6. I have watched the highlights but the recruiters have watch him live in matches good or bad, when you recruit a small forward the stats kicks and handballs mean he is in the play, the other 1%ers don't get reported. This you have to be there to see them.

I hope if we select him he turns out like his uncle byron and becomes a star of the competition?

We have 3 other players who will push each other for the small forward spot.

  7. I think that a bid at 3 by the MFC is a win/win situation since it will either force GWS to match it and if they don't then we get a player which is regarded by all recruiters as the next best player after the Sun's picks.

As a club we are not there to make life for GWS easy in getting 2 guns not 1.

  8. I remember Martin at the MFC he was tried as a forward and was good some days and poor on other days, it was only when he played a ruckman that he did well, unfortunately Neeld wanted Jamar and shipped him off to Brisbane.

I still think Bradtke will become a ruckman of quality, he was a star basketballer and his signature was wanted by many teams, so why do we need a WA ruckman?

  9. There is a list of ruckmen picked early in the draft like Richard Lounder, Billy Longer and Stephen Hooper who were failures because they were tall players who were playing against midgets.

When the MFC recuited Gawn at 34 and Fitzpatrick in the 50's the recruiter thought Fitzpatrick was the better footballer.

I have watched and worked for this club (10 Years) for the last 66 years and the recruiter have always shot themselves in the foot by falling in love with a footballer for one reason or another.

I talked and worked for Ray Jordan who had a good theory that any footballer who does not have enough mongrel in their makeup are not worth pursuing as a player.

  10. The club has duty to bid on Green at 3 he will help the midfield more than a rookie ruckman who is going to take 3-4 years to develop and maybe in that time Bradtke will be the number 2 ruckman behind Gawn.

The development of Bradtke in the long term may be stiffled if the chose Jackson.

All the reports on Green are very good and he may have gone one if he played in Victoria

  11. If i was the new fitness man I would assess the players who ended the season early by putting them in the rehab group so I could monitor their progress from the injuries, until I was satisfied they are upto the increased workload of the full training.

Our new fitness man is being conservative so these players get in a full preseason and the best shot at playing the full season.

  12. Fact is good players are better in best teams because the better quality players in the team are opposed to the best players , so they will get a lesser quality player to oppose them in the opponents team
