  1. Is it just me, or does Jonesy repeatedly make skill errors? He gets the ball really well, but doesn't do himself (or his teammates) with his disposal or tendency to hang onto the ball til he gets caught. My 11 y.o. daughter made the observation that he always make mistakes.

I though Davey was clearly BOG. Bater and Jurrah also good.

Also worried about McLean. Very slow. And when he goes to ground, takes ages to get up and get back in the game.

MacDonald was also ok, but i think he should call it a day at the end of the season.

Robbo, great guy and was a great player, but he too should call it a day. He doesn't look fit.

Frawley was good, Morton OK, Petterd will be a player, Dunn will keep his place and even PJ was ok yesterday.

  2. Apart from his other attributes, he has a real football brain. In the last qtr (I think) Bater was running in towards goal from the angle. I think he was considering handing it off to Liam, but Liam pointed towards goal to tell him to keep going.

The over the head goal while sitting of the ground was Jakovich like.

  3. I agree with Dale Kerrigan (or whatever the guy's name is) regarding the supposed trade value of the players always mentioned on this site.

Players like Bruce, Robbo, Bartram, Newton, Johnson. Bell et al have no trade value.

McLean & Jones would have some trade value, but late second round at best. Miller may have limited value.

Petterd may have some value, but I'd hate to see him leave.

  4. He's always done well in matches against Demons.

Although his opponent was often Nicho.

Should have a good career in the media, seems a great bloke with a good personality. Not a meathead like so many others, e.g. Taylor or boring e.g. Reiwoldt.

  5. This kid might win the Brownlow his father kept on missing out on.(Through Suspension)

Dimmy, perhaps suspensions were academic having regard to lack of votes?

  6.

Who really gives a 'flying continental' whether posters refer to them by their Christian name or Surname?

    Chillax HT!!

    BTW, what's a 'flying continental'?

  7. I don't understand why so many posters on this site refer to McLean as Brock. Bruce, MacDonald et all are all referred to by their surnames. Others by their nicknames, e.g. Robbo. It seems to be trend with players with dorky Christian names. The classic case of this was Gehrig, who was often referred to as Fraser.

  8. I agree with your summation , but think he's more like a reincarnation of Paul Hopgood - probably the worst skilled footballers I have ever seen in 45 years of watching the Dees religiously .

    They look alike too !

Aah yes, Hoppy. Hoppy was actually included in the list of 150 legends!! Unbelievable. I think Hoppy is a good bloke, and a mate of Lyon/Connolly et al, so perhaps that list should have been "150 legends and/or good blokes and/or mates of Lyon/Connolly et al"?

Back to Bartram. He may well be a top bloke, a great trier/trainer etc, but the days of players with poor skills are gone. I agree with the comparison with Simon Godfrey. If he hasn't got it, he hasn't got it. Turnovers are murder. skilled sides punish skill errors. Sides with premiership aspirations can't afford them, unless they otherwise have a team full of champions.

I don't post very often these days, so I'll this opportunity to have a coupla whinges.

There are some players who are very much whipping boys on this site. Miller, for example. And deservedly so. However there are posters who jump to their defence. Fair enough, that's their opinion. But Miller may play a series of poor matches, then play one good one (e.g. his match against fellow poor side, richmond) which supposedly is enough to make those criticising Miller "eat their words". Sorry, but one swallow doesn't make a summer.

Those supporting Miller still rely on his passable effort against Barry Hall years ago. He played an ok game, but Hall kept kicking points (from recollection) which made Miller's effort look better. Miller can't be more than he is; a passable footballer and a great bloke with a good looking partner. But the future of the team? I don't think so.

I can't stand posters who murder the English language. My pet hate is "could of", "would of". Punters, it's "could have" and "would have"!!

I presume that no-one is still reading this rant. So I'll move on to Hawthorn supporters. So many of them are bagging their team. FGS, they delivered a premiership!!!!!!!! I've followed Melbourne since 1964. 'nuff said.

I don't ask for much. Just one premiership.

  9. I really liked him as a player, my favourite player for about 10 of his 14 or so years as a player. He definitely wasn't soft.

He sorta lost me after that. A bit smarmy for my liking and something of a Triplechins' toady. He was very brave as a player, not sure he is so brave as a commentator/media person; he plays it very safe.

  10. Good Luck.

Its a good feed at the Elwood RSL at reasonable prices. Its popular in the area and you have to book Friday and Saturday nights.

Thanks Rhino, hope to see you there. If you do turn up, make yourself known; I'm the keyboard player.

  11. and now for something completely different ...

My band is playing at Elwood RSL on Saturday night 8.30 - midnight. Mainly 80s covers. No cover charge.

Check out our website - www.ordinarymen.com.au

    Check out the venue's website - www.elwoodrsl.com.au

We're bloody good. All welcome, except Filth supporters.

    Nothing like free advertising.

  12. Y_M, I think you just resolved all our PSD debates.

Meldrum, definately the forward pocket we're looking for.

Just be glad St Kilda doesn't have a pick ahead of us.

I think Molly would be interested in the back flank.

  13. If you have to use the abysmal expression "pinchhitter", then Yze should pinchhit at Sandy.

Wheels was tried as a midfielder years ago. The experiment was an abject failure. He is a terrific back pocket and should stay there.

Green was a great forward and should play there again. He would be good for 2-3 goals a game.

Dunn has great potential; could play anywhere, back forward and onball. Same with Bate, although I like him on the half forward line because he presents well.

Would like to see Rivers play up forward occasionally. I really liked it when he occasionally wandered up forward during matches + kicked the odd goal.
