  1. I think James Cook was leader of the Greens after Bob Brown but before Christine Milne.
  2. It will be my next read. What i found very eye opening was a quote from James Cook on observation of the Indigenous people during his exploration of the east coast "They live in a tranquillity which is not disturbed by the inequality of condition. The earth and sea of their own accord furnishes them with all things necessary for life. They covet neither magnificent houses or household stuff. They live in a warm and fine climate and enjoy wholesome air". Looks like no one took much notice of Jimmy's observations !
  3. All - this is not meant to start a political discourse but I have just finished "Aboriginal Australians - A history since 1788" by Richard Broome - well researched and not a difficult read. Highly recommend it. I also finished Fire and Fury - inside the Trump Administration by Michael Wolff. His writing style reminded me a lot of Caroline Wilson. He cleverly mixes quotes with words attributed to others that may be quotes but you are really not sure. He mixes a whole lot of quotes with opinion or what he thinks "may" have been said. It becomes so intertwined it leaves the reader none the wiser as to what actually was said and what wasn't said, what is fact ( quotes) and what is fiction ( pure opinion). Having said that - for the life of me, it must have been the biggest snowjob of all time that anyone connected with Trump allowed him one minute of access as he has zero good words to say about anyone in the Administration.
  4. okay - ill put it out there. The Poms really do make better television than the US. There. I said it.
  5. I've been watching The Crown. Whilst I am hardly a fan of the royal family it is a very interesting watch and you can see why it costs sooooo much money to produce.
  6. yes and no. The Caravan Club is no more ( don't get me started on the committee that runs the venue - grrrr) The owner is opening a new venue at the South Oakleigh Club called "The Phoenix Lounge" - Due to open April.

For history buffs - Slow Burn - a podcast about Watergate - really good.
  8. macca - if you get a chance - The Jazz Party is playing at the Caravan on Friday night. The lovechild of Darcy McNulty - ex Clairy Browne and the banging Raquettes. Harry Angus (Cat Empire) and Emma Lubitz (Tinpan Orange) are also playing with the band. Should be a great gig.

S-town was quite amazing i thought - it made me happy, sad, smile, cringe and angry at any given minute. John McLemore was the most complex person I think I have heard of.

Okay - I am late to arrive on the podcast scene but have now been listening to some great stuff over the last couple of months. A must listen is "serial" - especially the first one and from the same people "S-town". The other podcast which i have been enjoying is "those conspiracy guys" - this podcast does not reveal too much new stuff but it is 3 Irish dudes talking a bit of fact and whole lot of really amusing nonsense. I only have to hear an Irish accent and i get the giggles.
  13. For locals - at Memo Music Hall, they have a night, once a month hosted by Brian Nankervis where people bring in their favourite vinyl that has some story attached to it. Brian walks around prior to commencement of the show and talks to the audience and picks the best people to bring up - 3-4 people. He also has a couple of guests come in and they have a chat and talk about their favourite influences and play a couple of songs acoustically . The night I went they had Steve Kilby in who i love and is as quirky as all get up and he didn't disappoint. The next one is on this Wednesday but i cant make it.
  14. I am enjoying it but boy is it dark and heavy...
  15. Whilst it hasn't happened yet (to my recollection) - if he walks into the draft it is not a lock that we will get him. The likes of Collingwood and Bulldogs will get first crack at him. No-one needs to trade for him - the clubs lower than us just have to convince him that their club is a good fit and they can meet his financial demands.
  16. Went to old school Elton John last night ( some artists I can' t move on from) - First time i saw him was 1971 at South Melbourne footy ground - he dressed up like a chicken. His voice is passed its prime - he doesn't hit the high notes anymore. Boy oh boy does he still give good concert - he went a tick over two hours - played a couple from his new album and then went through his hits ( which some were missing as you cant fit everything in). He has slowed but is still the showman and gives everything. A really great gig.
  17. Two of the biggest [censored] jockeys that the good lord ( if i was a believer) put breath into - however they made some great music.
  18. I didn't think that was the case. I thought that players contract's expired after the trade period ended so you had a chance to trade players who were coming out of contract but before the national/preseason draft.
  19. Arya rocks my world. When Nev Jetta retires she would be the perfect replacement in the back pocket.
  20. And how about the party heading north of the wall - sort of a medieval dirty dozen.... ( also I want a dragon for Christmas)
  21. seriously - rickon - serpentine, serpentine !!!!!
  22. Queen Dani - please book your dragons in for some training with Aaron Davey. They have got to learn to zig and zag a bit and not go for the straight in approach.
  23. meet him briefly twice - top bloke. The first time was watching my daughters basketball game ( open age competition but low level) - sitting on the bench we were commenting that the ref looked exactly like Ben Brown (or sideshow Bob) but it couldn't be - why would he waste Sunday night ref'ing really poor standard basketball. A girl was sitting at the end of the bench confirmed it was him ( it was his girlfriend). I asked why he did it - she said he loved basketball and he found it relaxing ref'ing the lower levels.
  24. Went to the gig last Saturday night. Just Jeff, his guitars and his gizmo's ! He was freakin' amazing. If there is a better guitarist in Australia I would like to know his name.
