  1. Decent little write up, injuries can be forgiven for us having a poor year but there seemed to be a very poor mentality and there was little to no cohesion between the playing group. I really hope a good hard look at themselves and a decent pre-season has helped to fix those issues. If (big if) most of those players that are currently in rehab are able to get themselves mostly right for the year than that will go a long long way towards us reclaiming some pride.
  2. Possibly Petracca? But yeah Oliver would be the only one I can think of that would be right up there.
  3. Gotta walk before you run, much as I'd love for us to be in the GF mix I'll be ok with us being in the 8 if we're showing tangible signs of being in the mix in 2021.
  4. I'll be going, I'm not sure how useful I'll be at identifying players as I'm not a standard track watcher. But I'll do my best to give a run down of what I see. Unfortunately our players are dropping like flies at the moment with niggles and set backs so I think we'll be putting forward a team that's a bit reminiscent of last year. Brown/Wieds will now probably share the FF role with Tommy given some precautionary rehab time for his ankle and knee, Jackson may have to jump straight into rucking duties, do we give Bradtke a run as well? I wonder whether Tomlinson's flexibility will mean we play him in defence for periods.
  5. I liked episode one more, felt a bit more real. Somehow this latest ep felt a bit more put on (could be way off the mark). The important thing, especially for those players that have since had set backs, is it looks like Burgo's got some really good fitness into them. Look forward to hearing more about the Bennell story.
  6. I wouldn't be putting Brisbane in as a certainty, they had a great year but they sort of shot up from nowhere, no guarentees they'll be able to maintain it. Pies, GWS, Tigers, and West Coast from me are the likely top 4, cats will sadly retain a place in there as well (sick of them being up there) rest of the top 8 is wide open. And while yes traditionally there isn't much change in the top 8 teams I feel that there could be more changing of places as Essendon were an awful 8th side and the Doggies I don't rate that highly. Hawks could definitely pop back in, Port have talent but seem to have problems with it clicking, we should be considered in the mix to shoot back in there to prove 2019 was the odd year out after years of improvement, and then of course there's Sydney whowere unusually poor.
  7. Haha maybe! My username is actually based off my last name being one of those variants, I'll let you try to figure out which one! ?
  8. I’d add WC into that mix, with Kelly thrown in there they have some serious skill. All other teams I’d say we’re on par or better. Obviously a lot of it depends on our ability to get our best team out in the park. Last year we had an awful run in the pre-season and leading into the main season. This year we’ve had a good pre-season with some hiccups lately. Hopefully that’s all they are, hiccups.
  9. There’s no reason to put him on the LT injury list until we have someone we’d like to place onto the main squad instead. Its bloody frustrating when you have a club like Richmond who just won the premiership continue to have the mostly blessed run of injuries that they’ve had for a while. Send some luck our way footy gods!!!! ?
  10. I know this is a different opposition but I didn’t want to start a new thread. Anyone else slightly sickened by season the little report on the Hawks intraclub match with Patton kicking 3 goals. How the Hawks managed to pick up him and Scully (who also played well) for the equivalent of a small Big Mac meal is beyond me.
  11. Is anyone else confused with the colour clash? Surely we should be wearing the all red back.
  12. Haha noted!
  13. Finals is pass mark for me. Finishing say 9th won't kill be a disaster but we have to show signs we will be back in there the following year.
  14. The bloke is young which is a positive thing for him but I classify him as someone not a part of our playing group now. If he is able to get past these issues and get back out there then fantastic but really his future should be his life after footy symptoms wise needs to be his priority and only when everyone is satisfied he will be ok should he look to get back out there. Lot's of people put the pen through Brayshaw and he proved them wrong, but KK's issues just seem to be on another level.
  15. I'm personally of the opinion we should have one captain and a VC, simple as that. 2-3 more in the leadership group, we don't need it to be bloated. Max as captain for me, Jack as vice.

    AFLM?

I don't disagree with much of what you've said here (though perharps would've delivered it differently ?). I was really frustrated when the AFL annouced they were undergoing such a large expansion of the womens league when it was still a fledging competition. On the surface I suppose their argument is that it increases exposure for the womens game and will pump more interest into girls choosing AFL as a sport. In reality I feel their decision was based more on the idea of appearing as you say woke and up with the trends. They were more worried about how the league looked than the quality of the games being produced. This is also an issue with the WSL in the UK where save for the top 4-5 teams (which is actually quite good to watch) the quality of the matches can be at times quite poor. So much better to have a strong competition for 6-8 teams, than a bloated competition with the general skills and quality of match play worse than what it was 2 years ago. And stupidly it actually opens the door to more anti-women's game trolls.

    AFLM?

Literally no one would've been buying the narrative that the AFL would consider changing the mens competition name. Interestingly here in the UK they opted to changed the name of their womens football league from the FA Women's Premier League to the Womens Super League (or WSL), I imagine it was to give a point of difference from the mens league to make them stand out. I know there's the WAFL, and I can only imagine that it was for that reason they decided to put the W on the end of AFL. But for me it would make so much for sense for it to be branded as WFL. Anyway, nice non-news story from the papers.
  18. I have always said that luck is the intangible ingredient that almost every premiership team has had over the journey, and it's something that we have never had happen to us when we've been in with a shot. I really hope that when theses guys get back out on the park their fitness base they have created over the summer will stand them in good stead.
  19. Surely Brown is a shoe in for this first match, I’d be first looking at a combination of Weids/TMac, and Brown. I worry about throwing Jacko in against the big bodies so early.
  20. That was going to be my first thought, perhaps we have a mix of using TMac, Weid, Brown, and Jackie in the pre-season to avoid further injuries. Gawn is supposedly going to be good for round one, but losing Preuss has definitely hurt our depth. Shame for the bloke too, he really seemed be taking the pre-season head on.
  21. Yeah Petracca is going straight into the guts to kick off his year in the middle.
  22. Everyone seems to be making assumptions, fact is we don't know what the issue is. Someone could've stood on his foot for all we know. Let's cross our fingers and hope for the best.
  23. The amount of injuries and who they're affecting is a little concerning however touch wood right now we haven't had major setbacks (ie season ending). We're still a lot closer than last year to having our best 22 available for round one (not including Bennell in the conversatio until he's able to get himself to the right level of fitness).
  24. Same, I'm actually quite happy they're providing a behind the scenes look at the pre-season. For one it goes against the narrative of those who think they don't care about the season we had. But if nothing else it shows you the level of preparation they've been putting in. I'm really looking forward to next episode with Bennell being given his opportunity by the club. Like you my only issue is the title, and perhaps the narrator. I feel like the story could've been told by captions and the players/coaches talking us through what was happening.
  25. I’m backing Petracca to have his best year with us, a lot of media pundits like to mention the fact that he’s in his final year of his contract so this is the time to shine. But how about the simple fact that he is getting into his peak years and as an age group our club is getting into their peak years. Now is the best time for him to shine because it has the potential to bring others up along with him.
