I think you would find players hurt a hell of a lot more than supporters.  They are the ones who put in the blood, sweat and tears

Reckon getting paid between 300K - 900K per year would dull my pain nicely.

n.b. there were also a few inglorious 1 game exits for teams who finished 3rd or 4th in the final 6 era

    Make no mistake.
Ours was an inglorious if not embarrassing exit.

  3. Just watched a doco on STAN about Australia 2 and winning the Americas Cup.
Of course it featured John Bertrand who spoke about how driven he was to win the cup from the yanks for the 1st time.
So driven he went to America and studied nautical engineering so as to learn from those he was going to compete against.
Anyway, near the end he was asked why he decided not to defend the cup as captain at Fremantle.
His answer ... "Content men don't win world titles."

Culture is important. So too is a decent, second tall forward.

Following a premiership side has been a new experience for all of us and I'm sure we've all learned a lot from it as well. I thought we would go B2B but now I have more understanding of how hard thay can be. But just because we didn't win it all this year does not mean that we need to throw out the program and start again completely. We tweak some things and go again. That's what successful teams look like. It's not 'all or nothing'. We will be competing for a few years and, only when this team starts to wane will be able to judge our success properly. If we get to this position again (reigning premiers) it will be interesting to see how, next time, we all deal with the expectation that comes with scaling the mountain. Same goes for the players and coaches.

    Go Dees

Said the same thing to a bloke at work today.

But that doesn't stop me thinking as a club we got sucked into drinking the bathwater again.
    Cause that's in our culture.
As is losing games when we're favourites.

And from Premiers to out in straight sets is a Melbourne thing to do.

I'm just thankful now that Fritta kicked those 2 in a minute during the 3rd in the granny last year.
We were so close to a GF choke it wasn't funny.

People have to move on. We lost and it sucks. Much to look forward to over summer with the NBA and cricket, we'll get a good pre-season under our belt... I'm honestly excited about what list changes will take place.

Couldn't care less about NBA, Horse racing , cricket or tennis myself.

Come on Fork 'em, disgrace is something you'd reserve for performances where the players didn't even try. We did what we could, it definitely wasn't good enough. Maybe a case can be made that the season has been squandered but a disgrace? Surely not.

    Dunno man.
That was a pretty Melbourne like result.
Spent the year swanning around as reigning premiers and then bundled out straight sets after squandering leads .... Again.
Not gonna shake the mentally weak tag continually doing stuff like that.

  7. Well .... We all wondered whether 2018 was an aberration.
Now we're gonna find out if 2021 was one.

As for Goodwin going to work on our forward entries during the off season don't hold your breath.
We've been punching out poor conversion rates for years and he's done nothing.
And yes ... Even last year.

I think execution is a big part of it but is it also the gameplan which makes the execution difficult? We had a few relatively easy chances go begging so I think with some cleaner execution we would've put Brisbane away by half time (similar to the Collingwood game several weeks ago).

    Comes to your personnel/execution.
We have bugger all players who can actually kick.
Which is why they all go the long bomb dump kick.
Less pressure than the hit up.

Game plan, personnel, execution? Mix of all 3?

    Mix of all 3.
Just terrible F50 entries, poor shot conversion and the backs panic when it's coming in low and fast.
The opposition also learnt that if they kept the pressure on ... We'd crumble.
And we crumbled mentally worst in the last 2 games proven by the stupid late game frees and 50's.

Rubbish. It's the game plan. Do you think the key forwards like leading into the pocket, or having the ball kicked on their head?

But we need mid sized forwards who do more than ANB, Spargo and Sparrow.

    100%
    Not only that.
We wait for the pocket to fill up with players (both ours and theirs) before they do get it dumped on their heads.

17th for pressure acts tells the story this year.

The ruthlessness has gone, they are content they won one last year.

    You're right.
Those close games we lost throughout the season the opposition wanted it more and celebrated accordingly.

But I'm both content we won one last year and not as ruthless in my thinking either TBH.

The last minute of every quarter is so important. Tonight we gave away 5 goals in the last minute of quarters - 1 in Q1, 1 in Q2, 2 in Q3 and 1 in Q4.

The 2 in the 2nd had me raging.
I predicted the 1st one but when another one went though for the same stupid handball inside 50 ..... 🤬

A few seasons ago I thought Grundy was the best big man going around. Ruck work, marking, kicking and ground skills were exceptional. Given his injuries and time out of the game , I’m reticent about picking him up given doubts on his capacity to get back to playing regular footy.

I’m also reticent about picking him up from Collingwood, because they rarely let a talented player go unless they are convinced that the player’s fitness is permanently compromised. There are exceptions of course, Peter Moore, being a case in point, but generally they make few mistakes in regard to their medical assessments.

And I wouldn't trust 'em as far as I could kick 'em.

I’m just saying that nobody should think these boards AREN’T being read by the people who are being spoken about herein.
When Andy occasionally reminds us to be mindful when commenting on contentious issues lest a lawsuit be filed, he does so with very good reason.
It’s not as though we’re in the cone of silence here.

No-one is gonna file any lawsuit over a random post on some random forum with limited views.
    An expensive exercise in futility.

If LJ stays the offer to Grundy would disappear IMO. The Pies desperately need Grundys salary off their list, he could end up somewhere else. All this is depending on these reporters actually being right. Hmm my gut feel is they are guessing at best.

    Coupla things.

    1. Why would we help Collingwood relieve salary cap space?
Keep the pressure up both on field and off.
They wanna give De Goey 3.2M or whatever ... Just let 'em keep digging.

    2. Haven't heard a peep from either Jackson or Grundy.
These media parasites with nothing better to do than make sheet up seem to think they're league wide list managers.
