  1. If Beamer had put that comment where it belongs, I'd be unequivocally behind him as the next captain now. As Stevens remarked in his article, it's condescending and insulting. I want the players to be pi$$ed off at the insinuation.

Overly emotive? Probably, but I don't care.

Agree 100% Nasher. I'm keenly awaiting the comments ahead of next years clash

  2. Here is the article for those who haven't seen it.

    Grab that finals chance, Dees

To say a team needs to treat a Round 12 game like a Grand Final is to say it has little hope of playing off in the real thing and is in desperate need of a mocked-up substitute.

If Melbourne is not fed up with hearing the "June Grand Final" talk, it should be.

But there is always next year and the Pies may not be so fortunate next time. Melbourne - for too long an easy target - is waking up.

Why wait until next year to get one back on Malthouse?

The time to make a stand is right now.

  3. I read that article this morning WJ. Really good one by Stevens in my opinion.

His comment about Beamer not "laying a solid hip and shoulder" on Footy Classified when posed the question was very well said. Beamer had his chance and should have taken it.

All year Stevens has been a fan of us from what I have heard, and from that he really feels we can push for 8th spot.

  4. A few articles about Jack on the Herald Sun website this morning.

Both of them are a good read.

    History Drives Modest Demon

    Jack punches above his weight

"The main reason you play footy is to get team success, so I'm definitely doing whatever it takes to get that. I'm a pretty determined person," Trengove said.

  5. are you serious redleg? read the article in the demons mail, it says itself that it is the new demon logo, so yes i am right

I think you need to read the letter again mate...Definitely 200% not the new logo

  6. On Casey form last weekend, none of Spencer, Cheney or Bennell deserve to come into the side. Cheney has been in good form in previous weeks from all reports, however I think Macdonald will come in before him.

One change for mine. If another does occur I think it will be Bennell coming in for a bit of pace and dash on the AAMI spaces.

  7. Shouldn't be dropped again, I don't care who comes in, there are several players that should be dropped ahead of Jordie, even those who play in different roles. We're a better team with him out there.

Agree 100%. We do look better with him hunting packs and laying tackles. Pretty big endorsement for a rookie.

Competition for spots is going to be fierce one everybody is available, so hopefully he keeps up his form to mean he cant be dropped.

  8. Not overly important, but given the goings on of the last few days, I remember hearing somewhere a while back that Julia Gillard is a Demons fan. Can anyone confirm this?

Rudd was a Broncos fan and was seen a few times doing promotional stuff with the club such as being presented with signed jumpers etc, so who knows, we might see Julia doing similar stuff for the club, hardly inspiring but cant hurt.

She is number one ticket holder for the Bulldogs.

  9. Whilst understanding the angst that Petterd may be leaving the player we really need to re sign is Mark Jamar

There was talk going around at the Players Ball that Jamar has re-signed. If true, the club might be waiting on that being finalised or maybe even a couple more signings to announce them as a group.

  10. The odds of Petterd staying are the same as Ablett staying. Ablett is definitely going and Guy McKenna along with the Gold Coast CEO recently bought a multi-million $$$ property at auction. i wonder who that is for? I have the exact address

Not for Petterd, thats for sure. I dont care about Ablett, isnt this thread about Ricky?

  11. Never said he had no impact on the game, but because he had only 7 touches I'm not sure if that will save him from the chop...even though he did a job on Shaw. And lets face it Dunn is always first on the chopping block.

Disposals have very little relevance in modern footy. His role was to simply shut down Shaw as a defensive forward, which he did a fantastic job at. Played a very team-orientated role and will not be dropped.

  12. It was unfortunate but I reckon he probably extended his AFL career by a couple of years crossing to Carlton. Who would you drop for him out of our current squad of midfielders?

None. Pretty simple really, hey Robbie. Great move, up there with the TJ trade. To get pick 11 was a compete steal.

  13. I'm one of very few that would have actually preferred to keep mclean. i still would. Mclean is currently playing through a bit of an injury. We know he isn't at his best, but at the end of the day, his disposals and leadership will always be better than Gysberts.

Pretty big call at this stage Freak, especially about the leadership comment.

Unless you know something about Gys that we all dont, he may very well develop into a very good leader. I would prefer a straight laced, introverted leader over a burn out producing, bar fight causing clown style leader. Leadership is not just about on field and on the track. Lead by example.

McLean is long long past his best, due to his body letting him down. He has not been at his best for many years, and I doubt we will see him at his highest level again. No pace, very poor kicking. Being cut from a Carlton outfit short of inside midfielders would suggest we made a pretty good deal.

  14. A thread about Hardwick was always going to start.

Was it really? I very much doubt it.

(And just a hunch: Bailey will be gone by years end. :))

If we were a football club run by dropkicks, then maybe. But considering a contract extension was given at the start of the year, your hunch is rubbish :) Better luck next time, Mono.

  15. On paper we should - geographically (AAMI) we can't. Why? who knows? How many times have we gone to AAMI thinking we're a chance & then got smashed?

In another thread someone mentioned 2001 was the last win. We've had good teams since then & never won - why?

    Psychological!!!

Completely different players now. Very few would have played in Adelaide, and if so maybe only once or twice. Psychological damage doesnt happen over a couple of games. New coaching staff too, 2 who know the ground better than most.

  16. I understand Gosh's is the same shape as the MCG but slightly smaller, but I am not certain

The G is 171m x 146m fence to fence. From just using Google Earth's measurement tool, Gosch's Paddock is about 178m x 102m. But - I was under the impression we had the new ground next to it? If so, that one measures at about 170m x 120m

  17. Why not?? Don't you want a solution to the inequitable draw issue???

I understand the 'leave the game alone' argument, but we're not talking about rule changes with frustrating, inconsistent interpretations. We're talking about finally removing the biggest yearly issue in teams getting a perceived advantage over others in the fixture.

Wouldnt creating conferences be just as inequitable? Teams get lucky and get a perceived 'weaker' group, whilst some teams may be shafted with the strongest teams in the comp in their group.

It will not be solved. The only way to do so is for every team to play twice, home and away. There will always be inequities in our draw. Conferences will not work to fix that.

  18. I would love to see a massive 40 metre long red and blue banner be made up with the words, "WE LOVE YOU JIMMY" written on it.

The banner could be unveiled in the crowd on the wing either before or during the Essendon game at the MCG (or both), like the banners they have in the soccer matches overseas.

It would be a great way of showing Jimmy and the football community our love and appreciation we all have for the great man.

Surely as supporters we could raise the funds independantly. I would assume we would need permission from the club and MCG to unveil it. Obviously it would be best to keep it a secret from Jimmy until the unveiling.

Im all for it Haydo. Do you need Cam Schwabs email address? Let me know and I will pm you.

    Cheers

  19. It looks great doesn't it??

Can't believe the AFL would allow it but if I think from memory this side of the ground is less adorned with sponsors signage probably due to it not being seen on television.

In any case it looks great and brings back some ownership and 'home' ground feel to OUR ground.

This board continue to impress like no other in my life time....

Thats exactly right Jack. That area has practically always been bare as it gets no tv time.

And its not the AFL's decision. Its the MCC, and we all know we are great mates again!

  20. I would actually like Bruce to move to half forward. Like Beamer said in his Best Dees line up the other day, he feels Bruce plays his best footy at half forward, and so do I.

He has shown in the past he can be a damaging forward. He has the ability to slip away from his opponent and find space up there. Having him up forward would remove his biggest issues - he would not need to use as much creative handball where he lands teammates in trouble more often than not, and his kicking would have a bigger target - between the big sticks.

  21. meeson??? surely he can not be kept on the list after this season

He is on the rookie list deeflog. Inner demon said in his next bit that he expects to see a full turnover of the rookie list. I agree with him there. McKenzie obviously elevated, but I would like to hold Spencer there for 1 more year instead of elevating him. Anybody know if thats possible or if he has reached his maximum time allowed on the rookie list?

Jesse White and Rhys Stanley should be added to the list also in my opinion if we are actually after a ruckman/forward
