No way. Let him play the year out in the VFL. He needs to be banging the door down and demand selection not have it gifted to him in desperation. Selection integrity is not something you meddle with. Its detrimental to culture

I agree, he needs to really be screaming for a spot through performance otherwise what's the point...I'm just excited for when that happens.

As I recall JVR was named in the 25 a couple of times late 2022; some were calling for him to debut but the FD wisely held him back.   And he went on to have an really excellent debut year 2023.

@binman might argue that the Narrm rounds happen at the same time each year (late-May), when the club is putting certain efforts into fitness…

It certainly does seem to coincide with the time of season.

Maybe we should be narm in the preseason only, if at all

Give Fullerton a go first. He may not be a world beater, but he is athletic and will give a contest. Jeffo ain’t there yet.

I must agree - Fullarton was recruited as a mature, game ready tall forward who can ruck a bit.
We have desperately needed both this season but haven’t given him a look in.  Buyers regret?
If he doesn’t get picked when we are as desperate as we are he will be a totally wasted trade.

It doesn't need to be from one Vic club to another.

In 2020 Peter Wright was traded back to Vic (Ess) from GCS for a future 4th round pick on $500k a year.  Out of favour with Dew.

JT was reportedly keen on him in his draft year.  I don't think we or anyone else chased him otherwise GCS would have got a better deal from Ess.

Wright has starred since.  We missed a trick there.

Ah, the joys of hindsight 🙄

Yep and we also (STILL) don't deal with expectations very well it seems.

I'd love to see the W L ratio in games where we are odds on fav to win like Sunday.

I doubt it would be very pretty.  There's still a problem in the upstairs dept alot of the time.

That shows in the way we open matches too.  Far too meek and mild.  There's no manic white line fever across the board of late with this group bar a few usual exceptions that comtinue to fly the flag.

The hunger for the attack and manic pressure for four quarters (across the board) is no longer happening for whatever reason.

A fair amount of complacency appears to have set in to this group so far this season which is a real worry.

Possibly the lack of depth on this list and pressure for positions in general?

Re-signing the likes of Schache, the failed Grundy experiment i(nstead of going after another quality mid) and extending fairly lengthy contracts to those who are barely just fringe players couldn't have helped surely.

To be fair we were cruelled with late season injuries in 2023 which derailed our finals campaign.

However the ruthlessness Goodwin preached (that was needed throughout the club) at the end of 2020 and became apparent through 21 and much of 22 & 23 doesn't feel all that apparent in 2024 for mine.  Not across the board anyway and for four quarters anyway.

Thanks DD - agree with most of that summation

We have needed another tall for years the club seems incapable of finding one   Grundy should have worked for us

Egos and low IQs got in the way If Schacke Fullerton Jefferson and Tomlinson are no good get them out and start  again

Verrel is not the answer or he would be played its a complete mess

Verrall is a second year tall ruck - Max I don't think (yes, also injured) a go for 3 years or so and he has gone OK.

Throwing him to the wolves is not necessarily a great idea (though I did think a bench role against an "easy beat" like WCE 😮 may have been worth a try)

INV. Taj might be a chance in a couple of years ( games perhaps)  not a star but very solid, just needs a couple of pre seasons and more game time.
He will be a lock for the 22.

why do we play guys who have been injured and rush them straight back in.

I guess they do that because they, the professionals, feel that "coming back through Casey" does not prepare them properly.

So I’ve tried to let the emotions of yesterday pass …

    out: lever 😫 and BBB

in: Langdon (if he is ok to play) and JVR (if he has fully recovered from concussion)

petty to go back in place of lever and to help max in the ruck if need be (I thought some of his tap work wasn’t too bad last night)

    JVR straight swap for BBB

Langdon to patrol his MCG wings again and help us out with his defensive positioning and run 😊

defenders surely cannot just leave their opponent or position in the defensive unit, to do a bit of ruck work.

Since the loss of Jacko, we have been trying to find a 2nd ruck / fwd (not fwd who we ask to ruck).  They could not get their head around Grundy (he was pure ruck) and now they traded for Fullerton for this role.  10 rounds in we still have not played him.  This band aid philosophy including defender Petty to fwd is clearly not working.  BBB is done.  Billings is ok around the ground but get him anywhere near the goals and he is a "dear in the headlights".  Send him back as a HFF and get him some confidence.  Petty to defence to play a system and get hands on the ball.

Play fwd as a fwd, ruck as a ruck and def as a def.  Keep it simple.

    Out - BBB, Lever, Billings,

    IN - JVR, Fullerton, Langdon

So who, other than Max, in your plan, will relieve Max?

Clarry is the number 1 problem in the midfield. He is unfit and should be dropped. You saying he shouldn't has justified my calling but don't worry gutless Goodwin won't drop him he never makes many changes it will be van Rooyen and Langdon in Brown and Lever out. Which means I won't be going to the footy because Billings will be playing. We drop this game I'm calling for Goodwin's head.

You won't go to the footy because Billings is playing?  Sorry WERRIDEE, but what sort of true supporter of our beloved footy club and team doesn't attend because a particular player is selected?  Are you serious?

Is there anyone on our list who isn't (a) carrying an injury that should have been rested earlier or (b) coming back from injury lacking form and match fitness? Our player management is leaving a lot to be desired.

    So, question.

If every player carrying an injury is rested, and every player returning from injury comes via Casey, then we will need to play a 10 man side.

No to Petty forward he gives nothing Plays back or doesnt get a game Cant believe Im saying this but Petty Back. Tomlinson back and T. MAC FORWARD

T McD I believe has been quoted as saying he will not be played forward as his foot / ankle limitations prevents him from running on a lead or flying for a mark.   Yes, if that is the case maybe he shouldn't be playing, but as above who can we play in his place?

Second year in a row we have scored a succession of unrelated injuries to most of our tall forward options and many of our tall backs.  Someone has to run out onto the field for us.  Who?

Some of the tinkers will come at the mid-season draft where Tubby Taylor should get two shots at unearthing players who could add something - replacements for Brayshaw and Joel Smith.

I don't believe we get a replacement for a suspended player.

Justice delayed is justice denied.  Chinese swimmers of course get a very quick hearing.

It always seemed to me that, where the transgressed player misses games due to the injury caused, the transgressor's penalty should be at least as long.

Also, one game should be served when next playing that team.

Which would mean that Angus’ assailant would never play again which would nearly be justice

OUT: BBB   should never get another game.

            Lever (concussion)

           Woey.

    IN:  Tomlinson

          JVR

          Langdon

Somehow or other Fullerton needs to be also blooded... dunno how but when I can't even give a 6.5.4.3 vote for that pathetic effort I am in a quandry.

Woey was one of few half decent players and you want to drop him 😮

The non free kick against Reid for holding the ball really annoyed me. Thats holding the ball against 99% of players.

You can’t adjudicate the rules differently because you want him to keep taking the game again. Thats not how it works.

Cripps (CFC) and Reid have special rules.

Well we had a chance to recruit McKay or Curnow, yet we decided to draft Weideman.

    Thanks for the history lesson

Eagles have done at least 4 incorrect disposals / throws not penalised.

And why do the umpires  try to coach?  If thee is a block, penalise it and the message will get through.

  14. One question about the two jurisdictions.
IF he were to get 6 weeks would that be for 6 VFL Swans matches - given their recurring bloody byes that could well be 8 AFL matches?

When Wojinski (?spelling) broke JV7’s jaw in VFL he and Geelong seemed to weasel one week or more of his suspension due to the AFL team having a bye or maybe vice versa.

That’s true and not likely but in theory the size of Bendigo/Ballarat and local region combined could support an AFL team.

Only if say the western suburban team that plays some games at Ballarat were to relocate.  Could still be called Goldfield Western Bulldogs

And as for a 20th team 😮🤗😡 further diluting the talent pool 😡😱
