Fresh legs?  Casey play tomorrow. It will be interesting to see who only plays 3 quarters.

As I have said more than once before the VFL is an absolute dog’s dinner as a development / support / back up competition, and the stuffed suits at AFLHQ don’t give a rat’s [censored].

Bowey allegedly ready to come back for Carlton. Does he come straight in for Woewodin? Thought it was his most comfortable looking game in defence tonight so would be unlucky.

IF Bowey is really ready I would bring him in for Billings and play Woey on a wing / HF

No other changes unless they think Laurie needs a full game at Casey.

We’ve been blessed to see Clayton Oliver come through as a phenom. But this kid excites me even more. He simply has it all, and I cannot see a weakness in his game.

That is high praise and will hopefully turn out to be spot on.

It is accurate. We have less depth than last year and against the Cats and Blues over the next fortnight and other contenders later in the year we can’t carry players. Couldn’t care less about teams like the Tigers.

The window for us is closing so we need to make every post a winner.

Welcome back Harry.  Your contested marking tonight was first  rate.
So glad the selectors don’t decide according to the demo(n)cratic votes on this forum.

That was epic Daicos. Clinical. Blues won’t lose 3 on the trot unfortunately.

Not just epic Daicos, but also epic Carlton defence, or non defence.
And why shouldn’t they lose 3 on the trot.
I see Colonwood have a freebie next week.

I don’t think North are going to survive the Map of Tassie Expansion….

They. already have a Tasmanian presence, and they have a coach who is said to support a Tasmanian presence.   Nobody wants an uneven number of teams.  Logic suggests that North relocate.

Until we're worried about the AFL going broke, why are we talking about killing teams? This is a sport with nearing 200 years of history. You don't rip that up in search of a dollar.

Chook - AFL may well be heading for broke if the rumoured concussion class action succeeds.

  7. Thanks Kev and all others including WCW

Did I read it right that both Bowey and Melksham were in full training?  Fabulous news if I am reading correctly.

Would it mean that Bowey could be back this week or next, and Melk only a few weeks later presumably via a few at Casey

Doesn’t to me, Rioli matter was the same as were other matters under WADA in other sports.

We are in the predicament with a player down because of one person only and it’s not something I will forget nor will the FD, who I understand started down the road of setting minimum standards before the positive test came to light

The AFL is holding the decision relating to Smith over the MFC. Reasons, could be anything.

Are you saying that the AFL has a ruling that they are holding back?  Seriously?

    Reasons??  Blackmail? Corruption? Incompetence?

Totally unbelievable and unacceptable if this is true.

Seems to be par for course in these situations. The Rioli situation dragged on for nearly 2 years.

For whatever reason I don't know but as you say unfair.

WADA ASADA and or the AFL are denying the Magna Carta

Magna Carta of 1215, clause 40 of which reads, "To no one will we sell, to no one will we refuse or delay, right or justice.

I pretty much said this last week and got howled down for it. Body contact in ruck contests isn't his thing.

He hasn't got the physical attributes that you want in a second ruckman that can chop out Gawn, especially if he has to go up against the like of Grundy, Briggs, Jackson, Draper, Goldstein who'll just monster him physically. This is why they have trust in JVR because at least he competes hard when he chops out. Similar to how Cam Pederson use to be when Gaqn went down back in 2017.

He's a tall mobile 200cm forward flanker who can push up the ground and perhaps be use as a link up between the two halves using his athletic ability.

Still think Verrall can still play a role some stage this year as a 2nd hand Similar to how we use Jackson.

“Still think Verrall can still play a role some stage this year as a 2nd hand Similar to how we use Jackson.”

    Verrall sounds an interesting one.
To even mention him in the same sentence as Jackson causes salivation.
And for those who have had the opportunity to see both throughout their careers, and I reacll Max took about 4 years to be taken seriously, how do these two compare?  More cause for salivation?

  12. Undoubtedly these questions will already have been asked, or will be covered anyway by the panel:

1/ why have our 3 midfield guns. Clarry, JV and Tracc gone off the boil at the same time?  I can't remember any of them let alone all having such a poor run of form.

2/ Is Harry's horror run of form mainly physical, or mental?  Does he need to see the team psychologist?  Personally I think suggestions of him having checked out are offensive.  Surely he would love another flag, even if he is planing on moving to SA sometime, and it would also lower his bargaining power if he ended up at Casey

3/ Who should take HBF while Bowey and Salo recover?  To me it doesn't look like Woey, at this stage of his career at least.

4/ From whom are our goals going to come in the next two vital weeks? Fritta? Disco again? Petty? Smalls?

5/ Why was BBB played at Casey instead of being given a genuine rest?  He needs to be very carefully managed if he is to contribute come the business end of the season.

6/ is there any explanation at all for the turnover fest in the first half?  Probably the worst I can recall, and from both sides

Thanks as always for your mostly positive slants on our beloved Demons.

comparing apples and oranges,  contact is allowed in football.  is prohibited contact which resulted in a fine.  If this happened in the workplace you would be fired.  are you saying that Pickett should be removed from the AFL?

Not forever but yes for a week.

Not sure why people are picking Fullarton to play forward.  Let's face it, the vast majority of ruckman are very ordinary forwards.  People think ruckman are qualified to play forward because they're tall.  There's more to playing forward than just height.

Do we really know if Fullerton is a ruck forward or a forward ruck?

How else do you expect to give Geelong the required number of home games at Kardinia park while also ensuring Collingwood and Essendon never play there? If you've got any ideas, please send them to AFL house because they clearly need them.

They wouldn’t even open the mail.  So far up themselves the arrogant bastards at AFL HQ

    4.  Or is he on the AFL darling list?

  16. 2 hours ago, Gorgoroth said:

If the AFL were serious about this then one of two things need to happen.

One. (And prob the more likely) is someone presses charges or worksafe steps in and forces the AFL to act.

Two. And what they should do, simply state. Any striking action is a 1 week suspension minimum, we then look at force (1 week for low, 2 for medium, 3 for forceful, 4 for severe) and where the strike occurred to the opponent (1 for body area, 2 for head) and wether in play or behind play (1 for in play, 2 for off the ball, 3 for behind play.)

So the minimum for hitting someone is 4 weeks. Watch it disappear out of the game. Real quick.

First word sums it up.  IF the AFL were serious about violence and assault, which this was.  IF they could do it in a way that gave them enough wriggle room for their anointed darlings to get off when needed they may consider it, but if they can't, they won't.

Point one - pretty unlikely in my view especially for the types of incidents discussed here

Point two - the best summation yet, but again, what if Pendelberry or Cripps did this on finals eve?

something is very cooked when you can punch someone off the ball (no matter how hard) and only get a fine.

Somewhere I recall there have been suggestions that the MRO and tribunal are corrupt incompetent institutions.  There has certainly nothin happen this week to suggest otherwise.

Looking forward for Bowey to come back.

In the pre season he was shaping up to be a K Coleman quarterback type elite kicker from half back that would set up the field.

To miss 9-10 weeks is a shocking result for what appeared to be a text book collarbone 4 week injury on the night.

BBP - you will be getting the "shocking injury management MFCCS" posters out of the woodwork.  I never recall any fractured clavicle being ready for the rigors of top grade footy in under 6-8 weeks.  Correct me if I am wrong.
