Yes Rob, Steve Cummings (vocalist) and I went to Swinburne together in 1972 and I know Andrew Pendlebury through various other people and parties around Melbourne in the late 70's (not to mention that Andrew's father was the head of the art school at Swinnie when I was there doing Graphic Design). Rob... I'm down in Melbourne on Friday 8th May and heading along to see The Sports reunion performance on the Saturday night in St Kilda (which unfortunately clashes with the game against the Swans). Will head back on the Sunday, but am free to catch up on either Friday night or Saturday during the day. I'm staying in Sth Yarra. Glad you liked the song by the way.

We were rapt with the results DC. Camped most of the Casey game just near the sausage truck and enjoyed watching the game while chowing down... they really need a scoreboard though as at one point I was sure we were 3 goals down when we were actually 1 goal up! To then go over the footbridge to the Gee and see the way that game unfolded... heaven on a stick! In the Bradman (gate 5 entrance) just down toward the forward pocket so we had a close up view of the goals in the final quarter... I don't think I can ever recall seeing my son quite so animated... and I'm sure he'd be saying the same thing about me. Sat with a fellow D'land poster, the delightful Rob Mac and also popped in to say a quick hello to Pete (TDI) at the Memembership tent. All in all, a great day and a totally worthwhile trip to Melbourne...and what made it even better was the knowledge that it was pissing down with rain in Sydney while we were bathed in sunshine.

Ok, a quick one before I head off to the Casey v Collingwood prelude to the main game... Chet Baker's brilliant version of Elvis Costello's "Almost Blue"...

Will be at the Gee as well...this is my son's birthday trip to Mlbourne to see the Dees, so he gets to see as much as possible. Footy overload tomorrow :-)

Probably not worthy of its own thread so I'll chuck it in here, but just saw tweets mentioning that Benny Boy has been arrested in Perth again and is being held in police custody.

It's been a bad few moinths for bass players, first this gentleman (Jack Bruce) and just in the past week or so, Free's Andy Fraser (see my post in the Nuggets thread). Most remember Jack for his blues and rock and most particularly for Cream, but he was a very accomplished jazz musician... With the Jazz Composers Orchestra (Carla Bley, John McLaughlin, Gato Barbieri etc)

That sounds like a great evening NB! Did all of those people you list perform? The heat never really worries me too much... I went to a place here called the Petersham Bowlo (bowling club) a while back to see the Mighty Reapers (former Dynamic Hepnotics) and the air conditioning broke down. It was packed to the rafters and the bar was doing a roaring trade due to the fact the temperature inside was probably topping 40c easily. Really looking forward to seeing the Sports.
