You can use this line of reasoning to argue for the removal of all compensation picks, can't you? Unless you think that the idea of compensation is fundamentally wrong, then the issue is what is fair. I put it to you that the compensation, as agreed upon by the Clubs, was not fair. This seems pretty uncontroversial - I've already brought up the case of Ablett, and the rules were in fact changed.

We actually play Richmond at the 'G after the Freo game, so you'll have to wait a bit longer for the 'retribution' game I do think they are three very 'win-able' games going into the bye, and it'll be interesting to see how Demonland reacts if we win them all. Given Petterd has been named in the 18 it seems likely he's a definite in for Jetta. Garland is best 22 so he should play if fit, and I'd drop Evans. I liked it.

First, I think it's pretty pathetic to not even consider the possibility. They never considered 'what if..?'. Second, Geelong complained about the compensation - and it was changed, wasn't it? - because the compensation was going to be inadequate. Ablett wasn't a first or second-year player. Did the CEOs think GC and GWS were only going to consider mid-age battlers and pension-seekers?

I reckon Eade gets marked harshly. The entire competition is designed so that you can't stay up for long, so it's no big deal - IMO - that his teams were struggling when he was moved on. I suggested that he should have left WB at the end of last year and I reckon if he did it would have been better for both parties. His rep would have been better, and WB could have either rebuilt the side or gone for a [Geelong] Scott-style rejuvenation.
