  1. Fair enough; as long as you apply this to every other player who holds out on re-signing until the end of the season. Furthermore, it'd be charitable to apply it to the Club when they refuse to re-sign a player until the end of the season (or beyond).
  2. Who is responsible for putting those people in charge (and getting rid of them if they're not up to the job)? Worth noting that the head of what you call the 'meddlesome' admin, the CEO, has just had his contract extended.
  3. Yeah, if they've pulled on the Melbourne jumped they must be great footy coaches, administrators, etc. What do other people in the footy industry know? Their clubs have only won every premiership since 1964.
  4. Maybe that will happen, but Lyon's comments didn't seem to reference the people who wear the red and blue out on the field: As an aside, I agree with his approach.
  5. Tom Scully (knee) - test Rohan Bail (knee) - 1 week Michael Newton (foot) - 2 weeks Michael Evans (back) - season Jack Grimes (foot) - season Jake Spencer (knee) - season Good to see Joel Mac and Davey have dropped off - and are still off - the injury list. It's a shame Bail has taken so long to overcome his injury.
  6. The flip side of the coin might be that he doesn't know as much about footy as he thinks and thus his expectations are unrealistic and his involvement in the footy side of things - if he does get involved; he denies the Caroline Wilson account - counter-productive.
  7. Come off it. What does that make the teams we've spanked this year, and who sit below us on the ladder?
  8. I agree that our list will be good enough to challenge in the not-too-distant future, but I reckon BP would take issue with saying DB has recruited some very good raw talent What makes you say he's a good tactician? I'm pretty sure that his own players are on the record as saying he wasn't big on tactics.
  9. At least you're on the money with the last line.
  10. Why? Success in AFL is becoming increasingly dependent on tactics, and even Matthews' players admitted he didn't give them much tactical instruction.
  11. Odd timing; 20+ mins after DB was reportedly told it was over. I imagine Green, given he is captain, would have been contacted fairly quickly.
  12. I'm not sure Matthews is cut out for coaching these days, given his lack of focus on tactics.
  13. I bet there are plenty of great guys and gals on Demonland who love the Club, but it doesn't mean they should be CEO and that also goes for Schwab. There have been rumours about CS for months. The same goes for most admin/Board roles, doesn't it? I'm pretty sure it was reported at the start of the year that DB approached the Board - and admin? - and said it was time to put the focus on the on-field stuff, which would explain why we've heard less from CC and CS. For what it's worth, most - all? - Clubs have a Director specfically involved with the footy department. If I remember correctly Leoncelli was doing the role for us, but he left recently.
  14. I hope that snipe was aimed at Ferguson, because he's the reason the deal didn't go through. Since Ferguson was contracted he had to assent to the trade; he didn't.
  15. Here are some games that attracted a similar number of supporters at the MCG this year: Hawthorn v St Kilda, Round 8 - 42,453 //Sunday St Kilda v Richmond, Round 2 - 41,465 //Friday night Melbourne v Hawthorn, Round 18 - 39,782 //Sunday St Kilda v Geelong, Round 13 - 39,539 //Saturday night
  16. +1 We might sneak in, but we're not seriously vying for a spot; particularly not in the game versus Hawthorn, anyway. What I loathe is the idea that Melbourne supporters are somehow different to fans of other clubs. Melbourne supporters are no different to any other group; there are a hardcore bunch who go all the time, those who attend a fair bit, and others who go little (if at all). You're kidding yourself if you think other Clubs are different. As for telling people who don't go to games/buy memberships, turning off the people who 'go for' Melbourne but don't have footy as a big part of their lives is beyond foolish. (Hot tip; Hawthorn membership figures/crowd figures weren't so hot when they were struggling).
  17. Didn't you say just one week ago that you 'know he'll do it'?
  18. If you know they'll do it you're writing off other players; who isn't going to make it? I reckon there are plenty further forward in the queue. Jetta has shown little up forward IMO; Barry Prendergast even acknowledged that Jetta, having generally played forward for Melbourne so far, is being played out of position.
  19. Talking about young kids is just about pointless on here if only positive comments are acceptable. No one that I can see is advocating potting young players but I'd much rather read some balanced observations of young players than the gushing praise that often accompanies young players (and the level of gush often seems positively correlated with a poster's penchant for potting said player down the track). If someone thinks Blease's work-rate wasn't good then I want to read that just as much as someone talking up his willingness to receive the footy and go for a run.
