FB - Frawley Garland Terlich
HB - Watts McDonald Dunn
C - Sylvia Grimes Howe
HF - Kent Clark Pedersen
FF - Byrnes Dawes Rodan
R - Jamar N.Jones Viney
INT - McKenzie M. Jones Toumpas
SUB - Tapscott
EMG - Sellar Magner NicholsonNot sure on Pedersen's pre-season form, but I think he will be given the chance to play the role he was recruited for - "link forward and ruck" - with our other key forwards actually in the team.
I'd also like to see Frawley take on more small forward jobs, I seem to remember him doing this very well in the past. Garland seems too loose on smalls and needs to be able to take on talls (or Gillies should come in for him).
Assuming Trengove and Blease not available. Slightly worried about run from backline, Would love to see JW present strongly in the corridor from time to time to mix things up.

A GWS membership comes with a petrol discount voucher in western sydney....I wouldn't worry too much. Sydney has a great track record for sticking with losing teams...
^^ It seems that 2,000 GWS 'Foundation Members' dropped off in 2012. GWS had claimed to have signed 12,165 Foundation members as at 31 October 2011.

Would love the club to take some initiative with this coverage.
Take a leaf out of commercial radio, get in some volunteer commentators (or Matt and Ellie) and have repeated references to the 'Opel Goal of the Day' and the 'Webjet Flight (mark) of the Day' to help keep the sponsors happy.
It's not a huge audience, but it also wouldn't take much to setup.

Terrible article. Also, I think that afl.com.au must have followed Fairfax in outsourcing their sub-editing to New Zealand - the intro to the article in the 'News' section of afl.com.au states that Liam is still a listed Melbourne player.
-
Just to quote myself.
I now believe the 2013 lists will have 40 on the Senior list including Veterans.
I don't seem to find much about Rookies.
If we have 40 on the primary list, based on this article it appears we can still have 4 rookies.

Between this and the Billy Stretch thread I feel like I've gone back in time.
Please don't make me go through 2012 all over again!

I think your murking the facts. Certainly unded the Daniher years our club was used as an example of how to manage the cultural aspects of having indigenous players come down to Melbourne in the cold and play in the AFL. So we have good history on this point.
Im inclined to think that since Dean Bailey our relationships with indigenous players have been a failure.
Our good record had a lot to do with the leadership of Matty Whelan, I reckon. Without Wrecker it seems to have been slowly unravelling.

I don't think there is much risk for GWS or GC in bidding for Jack. I think we will definately use pick 3 on him if necessary.
I am wondering (hoping!) if there is a PR angle to consider. By nominating Jack, aren't GWS and GC are saying that the players they eventually choose (Whitfield and ?) aren't really the rightful #1 and #2. Given the intensive media/PR around the draft these days will that be a factor?

Who is Sheedy actually attacking?? It was he who said a few weeks ago that all Victorian clubs should get stuck into Fremantle and raid their players...Who has actually had a go at GW$?
Most amusing....
No one officially that I have seen. He's completely paranoid.
The AFL would have been better off getting Warwick Capper to front GWS. Just as nuts but at least people in Sydney know who he is.

How many more times does he need to stuff up before serious action will be taken? More counselling - yeah that will work.
Agree
The Stevie Johnson example clearly worked.
Except that the next year Johnson lost his license for driving 80 km/hr over the speed limit. But he wasn't drunk - so I guess you could say that the punishment for drinking worked.
Club should take number12 off Colin and give him number 50
This is creative and could actually be effective. Give him 50 for 2012 with the leadership team to review whether he has earnt his number 12 back for 2013.

Hmmm. Should Lucky Phil's salary have been factored into our compensation formula? Might have got another pick

on twitter
Pretty sure that's CaroWHINE Wilson. It's a twitter parody.

Now as @ 22nd March - 30,066. Already:
Now 2,938 better off than at 31st March 2009.
Now 2,471 better off than at 31st March 2010.
With a reported 7,000 yet to renew from 2010 melbournefc.com.au

A publication may publish opinion pieces (I for one dont think that AFL.com needs to run opinion pieces - there are enough media outlets already doing so) but the Editor needs to ensure that the opinion ( in fact any article) can at least stand up to logical and rigorous scrutiny.
Nice work hardtack
Ok so the views of Jason Phelan, an employee of afl.com.au, are the views of the author and not necessarily those of the clubs or the AFL.
And the views of Geoff Slattery, managing editor of AFL Media, are the views of the author and not necessarily those of the clubs or the AFL.
What's next ... the views of Andrew Demetriou's mouth are not necessarily those of Andrew Demetriou

Maybe I should have been clearer: the master's suggested dream situation makes no sense to me.
I don't have any issue with the current facility, but I have no issue with moving to a docklands facility if it is just as good or better and is more financially viable.
There are some fantastical suggestions of us developing the MOPT precint to better promote us as a club that will never come close to happening.
They are pure fantasy.
I don't live in Melbourne, so am interested in knowing Demonlanders' thoughts on whether the proposed development reported in The Age would make a move to Docklands a significantly more attractive proposition.

Can we let them navigate puberty before we stake claims on them being the best f/s ever etc.
There is a longer article with picture (in Demon's jumper!) here
Looks very young!!

Many would have thought the same of the Pies only a year or two ago and now they have 22 of them.
22 Premiership Spuds!

I heard something along those lines a little while back. Thats why I posted it. Because I was reasonably sure, of what I thought I heard, so put it out there for discussion. I'm aware of the advantage it would give if true.
As the Father/Son bidding is held as the first item during trade week, I guess the picks that are locked in cannot be traded.
Monday October 4, 10am - Father/Son bidding meeting (Gold Coast FC not entitled to participate).
Monday October 4 - Monday October 11 - AFL exchange period

Apparently, Lynden had an eventful GF replay.
Not sure about ^. But I am reminded of Dunny everytime I see the Carlton Draught slow motion ad. Is it just me?

My brother and I posted that about 10 years ago!! The idea came from an article about the NFL draft.
"We were sure he would be taken by St Kilda" - He'll be arrested for public drunkenness before the year is out.
Sad that this still applies 10 years later!
"We had him listed in our top 3" - Either 16 other clubs don't know what they are doing, or we severely overrated him.
I'm pretty sure Craig Cameron dragged this one out a few times.

From what I understand the weights are almost exactly as heavy at AAMI as they were at Junction.
Very true, but with presumably more space and equipment I've been wondering if it would be possible to quantify the % improvement in the efficiency of weights sessions (ie. less time waiting for equipment means more time under the bar).
Might have to tweet @CamSchwab (like he's got nothing better to do!!)

I was surprised no-one has commented on Dean's change of tactics, specifically the kick to handball ratio yesterday.
I recall some criticism of him for having no plan B.
Yesterday was definitely Plan A!!
Is it a change in tactics or just the result of having a functioning, dangerous forward line?
-
Imagine the look on Jack's face if he was actually happy to be involved with the MFC!!
BTW, nice image gallery from the Swans game here

Ah, I miss the Grinter days! Dermot, Woosha, Dippa, Lockett... PS: The Footy wasn't too shabby by the way, foot skills a little off today but the marks & free balling footy were Just awesome. You never knew what might happen next.
No jockstraps in the 80s & 90s??

Not sure if this has been posted already, but this Voss thread seems appropriate.
Has Voss been asked by the AFL to clarify his comment - "our critical decision in 2010 was to try and lower our draft picks and get some good quality talent in" - from this recent article?
Sounds like something the Lions should be fined a half mil for.
