  1. I remember when we won something like 9 of our first 11 games there...ahh the early 2000s...it ain't the ground
  2. Bloody Frustrating loss, but in this competition, if you're a side fighting out for positions 6-14 on the ladder each game is going to be a 50-50 proposition. St Kildas form has also been alright-very unlucky to lose to Hawthorn.
  3. Very cool thread. In the same vein, I want to know where these people are now! The poor old duck in the Navy sweater!
  4. David Schwarz came back from his first knee reconstruction far too early. This should never have been allowed to happen - apparently he was in full training 4 weeks after the first surgery (he mentions this in the interview below). Wouldn't happen under the management now.
  5. A nice interview : http://www.3aw.com.au/news/neil-mitchells-special-interview-with-ron-barassi-ahead-of-his-80th-birthday-20160224-gn349b.html
  6. Possibly one of the more amusing Barassi quotes : "Don't get too carried away with your ability because it came out of the eye of your old mans ..." (19:39)https://youtu.be/jJoRQyyJsgk?t=19m30s
  7. An absolute legend. Back in primary school in the early 90's a friend and I sent a cardboard "Ron Barassi Medal" (which Bob Davis jocularly suggested should be struck) into the channel 7 footy panel, he was nice enough to ring up and have a chat to me! I love the old "hot gospelling" video's too... It would indeed be great if he could hold on for another flag... Now begs the question that I've always wanted to post here...if by some chance we played off for a flag within the next decade...the AFL seems to have a recent tradition that an ex-club legend hand the cup over to the winning coach/captain...who would be your nomination for the Demons? It would be Robbie for me if it wasn't for his tragic passing... who else? David Neitz? A living member from the 1964 team? Garry Lyon?
  8. Heartily agree on that. Still only ourselves to blame, we lost some winnable games mid-season that would have given us the double chance that year.
  9. Oh...I remember Here are some sights for sore demon eyes: 1998 vs WC https://youtu.be/dZVeRYWyH9A 1990 vs Essendon : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owS0J1Jh4F4
  10. Great win, but the article was for Home & Away wins only
  11. #1 and #2 on the list were spot on I thought...but I think there were too many games from 2001+ listed. We played some pretty good footy in the late 80s and early 90s. 1998 vs West Coast after being thrashed by Geelong and the saints in the previous two weeks somehow we won in Perth against the odds. Robbo came of age and kicked 4. 1990 beating Essendon at windy hill after being behind all day? Darren Bennett and Ricky Jackson leading the charge! Beating hawthorn in the last round of 1990 (and then giving them another dose in the elimination the week after) Beating north round 2 1998 after being wooden spooners in 1997, Farmer, Schwarz, Lyon, Neitz all running amok... Any game where Jackovich kicked 6+! Any games from the 70s stand out?
  12. I was at this game (at least I can say I saw one of the great modern day performances), does anyone remember how the team ran out without the banner on this day? In protest of the 'takeover' of the hawks the cheersquad put the banner up in the top rows of the empty great southern stand. Something like "go to hell we won't merge". Any cheersquad members remember the exact wording?
  13. I think this is an interesting insight from Morton, and it fits in with what I have heard about the club. I received 18 months of treatment from a physio who had just taken up a new role as a part time physio at the MFC in early 2010 - what turned out to be Bailey's last year. He had no previous AFL club experience and was very impressed with the professionalism of the club. Seeing him 12 months later in late 2010/early 2011 after all the upheaval, I asked him what the difference under Neeld was - and quite to my surprise (and his), he remarked that the training and level of professionalism required had increased even more under the new coach. It just shows how far behind the 8-ball we were under Bailey, and if what Morton says is true, how far behind a club like WCE we currently are. Although it doesn't surprise me that at a strong club with ELITE midfielders that Morton is finishing outside the top 10 runners, that would be a given I would have thought.
  14. Actually with all due respect I don't think is a particularly good article at all. I disagreed mostly with the following quotes: Well having Gutnick as president was fairly bold I would have thought. When we appointed Daniher, White and Danny Corcoran in 1997 we were pretty bold too! From GF '97 to preseason MFC was the absolute talk of the town... then we had a GF and a brownlow in 2000. We've struggled in the last 6 years because we don't have the 3 out and out super stars that each Premiership team has in their lineups. We have a half decent list and pretty good young players. It's not 1997 again. In Modern footy, with the right coach we can turn this around pretty quick. Whoa hold up a second there?? List manager par excellence??? I think his record as a list manager since 2000 has been pretty poor - not to mention as a coach! Would MFC supporters be happy with us picking up Scott Camporeale type players at the end of their careers??? However, I totally agree with the marketing and re-invigoration that Sheedy would bring, and I would actually be happy (and VERY excited) to see him at the helm, but I really query whether he has still got is as a coach. Melbourne need to pick the best candidate, whoever it is. (My first choice is actually Chris Bond - very shrewd, smart customer). AND then we need to draft well.
