  1. I think most of us picked this up too, except the bloody commentators or any other media pundits this week. It really was one of the classiest things I've seen from a Melbourne player in a long, long time.
  2. Where did you hear that? Good stuff. And the Eagles managed to do it in Perth in the JLT. Only Oliver really shone. I hope we can rectify that in the season proper.
  3. I have a feeling Jones will keep doing it this season and take his game to another level. I reckon he can average 30 touches this year. He averaged 28 last year. With Lewis by his side, I reckon they'll both propel and elevate each other. I'm happy for our midfield to keep flying under the radar this season, but if Oliver keeps dominating as I think he will, it'll only make the job of Jones, Lewis and Viney all that more achievable. In essence, we won't be flying under the radar for long. Those four really could be the fab four this year though. I can't see teams wanting to tag any of them for fear of losing their own attack, but if they do, who do you tag? If I'm an opposition coach, I have someone minding Oliver at stoppages, but I can't do anything about Viney, Lewis or Jones. I have to back that my other midfielders can deal with them and curve their influence. But if Viney can recapture his early 2016 form, we will have a formidable midfield capable of destroying any opposition this season. Particularly, with a dominant ruckman like Maxy giving our mids the silver service. EDIT. And this isn't even counting arguably our second best extractor (behind Oliver) in Tyson.
  4. He's painful and probably the most inarticulate journalist in the media landscape, but I like watching Lewis now and used to like watching Roos. Only watch one or two nights a week though. Anymore than that and Robbo just gives me the shits.
  5. Great post, mate. If Watts can play as a genuine KP tall and use his natural smarts on the ground as well, it makes the combination of Hogan/Weideman/Watts extremely potent. And what's even more exciting about those three is they're all beautiful kicks. Forget what we saw towards the back half of last season. Hogan's kicking is back on and he'll kick more than he misses this season. Weideman is also a beautiful set shot and Watts is probably our best kick for goal. Combine those three talls with the x-factor, creativity and power of Petracca, the speed, skill and goal smarts of Garlett and Hannan, and we have a seriously potent starting forward line. It frees Kent to play anywhere from half forward, to the wing, to half back if need be. More speed and power for our side, which will only help. I have no idea who he replaces though. A good problem to have! Couple this with our emerging midfield and we'll be starting to go places soon enough. I do, however, think we should look at recruiting another zippy small forward (think Garlett) at the end of 2017, because if two of Garlett, Hannan or Kent go down, we don't quite have the depth there IMO. And of course if ANB doesn't panic in tight, he may well carve out another option, along with Vandenberg and Bugg. Though, these three players have less leg speed than is ideal.
  6. I'd say if Wagner didn't play at Casey this weekend, I can't imagine him coming straight back into the team after injury.
  7. Yeah, I saw that, but it made no sense. Goody footy is coming.
  8. Omac reminds me very much of a young Frawley and even Tommy too. Watching Frawley's development I no longer question our coaches when they continue to play young KPDs. Clearly they see something that many others don't, particularly from the outside looking in, and I'd speculate that they value getting games into him and improving his decision making as the number one goal for developing our backline into the future. Getting more games into Oscar and allowing him to get used to the zone defence is vital going forward IMO. He's not getting so clearly beaten week in, week out that he's droppable and as you say bin, it appears Goodwin agrees with this line of thinking.
  9. I think in Omac's first quarter, where he was often isolated, it's fair to say he struggled, but after quarter time, it was only his lack polish that could be bemoaned. He dropped far too many simple uncontested chest marks, but as I've noted a couple of times and as you note RABR, his game wasnt drop worthy, nor will it be with our injuries.
  10. Jonesy also played a vital role in pinging off our zone defence, being in the right spot and offering an outlet for our defenders to utilise.
  11. Nah, it'll take off. You watch David King. #goodyfooty
  12. I did. At 2.15am on Sunday morning mind you, but I watched it nevertheless. His kick outs were terrific. But his field kicking at times still leaves a bit to be desired. And I maintain, there's no way Vince was better than Jones on the day. IMO, it was the best/most complete/most disciplined game Jones has played for the club. Vince has played far better games.
  13. What I love so much about the early signs from Goodwin as a coach, even in his second assistant year, is his creativity and willingness to experiment. We had the Diamond Defence last year and now the refined traditional zone defence, coupled with this new Goody Footy 9-man backline. He's cutting edge. Even more exciting is that this creativity has a view to heavy scoring, 'fearless football', unlike the Roos/Lyon shut it down stoppage game of yesteryear. Lyon is still trying to play a mutated form of it nowadays and it just doesn't stack up to the spread and fast ball movement of 2017 sides. Cannot wait to see what other tricks Goody Footy has for us in 2017 and beyond.
  14. Are we seriously comparing Brown whacking into opposition players in contests to Bernie Vince sniping behind the play? Come on, DA. Worlds apart. Fact remains, he didn't need to do it. Needless. And he's cost himself a week. It probably won't hurt us, but who knows.
  15. Not a leader's bootlace, Bernie. Stupid again. Why do it? You're not being tough.
  16. Wouldn't it mean that the psychopath with the basement is the new optimistic OD?
  17. It was Jones' movement that made that goal though.
  18. Unfortunately, I remember when we could barely kick 10 for a game. It was only 25-30 games ago. We should probably have got to 20 goals on Saturday. That's back to Daniher era scoring. So at least 10 years. It's been a while. A changed man. I love it, OD.
  19. Not sad at all. He's Carlton's coach and as a result I hope he fails, but stays at the helm for as long as possible.
  20. And yet we probably should have won it. I reckon we would have had Tommy Mac not got injured. Melbourne supporter Weitering? I reckon we're one midfielder short too.
  21. From the outside looking in, it looks like the work of a boy's club and sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. It didn't work at Melbourne and it's not working at Carlton. Unless things change there pretty quickly, they'll be looking for a new coach as early as next year.
